Liverpool Football Club

I don't really go on any of the forums and I've only really just got into Twitter. Just couldn't believe Barclay did that.

He's known on all the major forums, he's an absolute nutter, brilliant to read :D

I know, I'm one of them. But a load of my mates are Liverpool fans in Liverpool and they know when a manager is saying what he thinks the fans want to hear to make up for his PR balls-up 2 weeks ago, combined with the atrocious results.

He's gone within the month.

You say that but Sktel and The Greek were woeful, utter utter shit. Slow, out of position, awful. If Agger doesn't start in the next few games, he must be wondering whether he should be playing football at all!

I'm as annoyed about the current situation as anyone, but how can we possibly comment on Aggers fitness/form in training? He might just be as terrible as the others.

I also think it is unfair to pick on the individuals in defence because defending is really something the team needs to do. Soto has been one of our star performers this year, at least he always gives 100%.

We have looked terrible from set pieces, which means the defence is not being organised properly, but we have also been exposed way too much in open play - with our midfielders not helping out the defence enough, which is probably partly down to the loss of Mascherano.

I havent even read the Hodgson comments, complained about earlier in the thread, but I think there is something in the idea that we pushed too many numbers forward from the midfield during the game leaving our defence open to counter attack which is how they scored all three of their goals.

While Johnson made some terrible decisions, we know he is going to do that and needs better protection.

I wouldn't be surprised. I have a feeling the owners might be trying hard to get a permanent manager in place. Putting Dalglish in as caretaker now would make it hard to move him upstairs come the summer, unless he does just as bad.

He's playing the fans. Or trying to. Scousers are far too clever for that, he's not dealing with a bunch of Surrey families now.

Didn't you see him on the touchline? I just saw his face going 'bollocks, this is really going to hurt the fans' and he always namechecks us in his interviews.

I reckon Martin O'Neill.

He almost went to Liverpool at the beginning of the season.

Is very motivating so would get the best out of the current squad.

Has big club experience.

And tactically he is streets ahead of Hodgson.

Also players would want to come to Liverpool to be with him.

That would be the final nail in my football coffin

Martin O'neill's a good manager, but the problem with him is that he's never willing to take a risk on a player who hasn't already played in either England or Scotland. So he ends up buying a lot of dross like Sidwell, Reo-Coker and Luke Young and a team that wants for creativity, especially against the big clubs. He had a dream job at Villa where he was simultaneously allowed to make Villa one of the highest spending clubs in Europe and lumped with low expectations so the media lauded it as a minor miracle he was able to get them anywhere near the top four. He won't have it so good again in his career, and certainly not at Liverpool.

Owen Coyle is the best bet on that list, IMO. He's worked wonders at Bolton inheriting Megson's squad and in a short space of time crafting them into a team that play good football and get results. Plus Bolton don't have the money to keep the team together, and he's already shown he doesn't have any loyalty about him when a bigger club come knocking.

Actually, i'm curious to know why you'd both object to MON so much. He has his faults, no doubt, but he's a fantastic motivator of players. You could definitely do worse.

He's not. He doesn't speak to those who aren't in his first team and he's got a shocking attitude towards squad rotation and foreign players.

Did anybody actually see where our two defenders were for the first goal? Did anyone see how Benjani turned The Greek so easily for the 3rd? Amazed anyone is defending our god awful defence.

Skrtel and Kyrgiakos took each other out and Johnson ended up having to cover the gaping hole in the centre as well as his own position.

It was a shambles and no defence for our defence!

And therein is the danger; you can't say Hodgson has been a failure based on half a season whilst also saying Coyle has been brilliant based on half a season. What if Bolton now crumble - will Coyle still be great? What if Hodgson turns things around, will he gain recognition? Plenty of managers have a good 6 months and then their teams fall off the pace.

In a way I think Hodgson needs to stay for the season to a) give him a chance to bring people in and have a go on 'his' terms and turn things around; or alternatively b) if he fails, *he* understands he's failed - at the moment I think he believes his own hype and were he to go now he'll always be able to claim he never failed because he never had the chance.

Well, you're right about his faults, and the aforementioned dodgy buys (although not Luke Young, he's pretty good), but he can sure motivate the players in the first team. I presume there's decent money there from the new owners though, and that's not something i'd trust him with.

Hmm, sorry to keep quoting articles from that site. I have no opinions of my own :(

I'd say it's pretty damning though..

Lowest points total =25 (previous was 28 in 92/93 and 98/99)

Fewest wins = 7 (previous was 8 in 3 seasons)

Most defeats = 8 (previous was 7 in 4 seasons including last season)

Fewest goals scored = 23 (previous was 28 in 4 seasons)

Worst goal difference = -1 (previous was +6 in 92/93)

Joint worst league position =9th (along with 92/93 and 98/99)
