And yet you want the manager out? Hardly seems fair.

God, you didn't. Forgive me, must've just scanned your post and assumed it did. Maybe the irony confused me.

Okay, I'll just re-edit my post for the pertinent bit then:

...Hodgson has no track record, no past evidence that he can even propel a team to any kind of height in any comparible level of competition. That's before you dig deeper and look at the tactics (something you don't really seem to have any comprehension of, to be fair) or the many, many foot-in-mouth comments.

There is nothing to suggest that this situation is going to improve. I admire your sympathy and the desire to save face after one of your preferred appointments has us hovering above the relegation places, but the future of the club is too important to gamble on just to keep on a fella whose ego/(reputation of being "One of the most respected coaches in Europe") might end up a bit bruised. The jig's up.

Steven Gerrard is awesome isn't he?

lolorama.

Are we still talking about Rafa? I didn't rate him much, it's you who did.

You're a plank, what do you want me to say?

Mourinho was always my preference, or Bilic, or Sven. I thought Hodgson was too old but a decent shout. But let me be clear I don't mind Hodgson. I think anybody should be given time, perhaps half a season is enough, perhaps it's not. But if Hodgson was replaced with Bilic I'd be down with that. replace him with Mourinho and I'll kill Roy myself.

I genuinely don't know, to be honest.

I'm gutted about Benitez, obviously, and will always disagree with his departure. But it's done now.

Who I definitely don't want:

'Big Sam' :eyebrows:

Mark Hughes

Jurgen Klinsmann

Alan Curbishley

Kevin Keegan

Martin O'neill

Who I'd rather not have:

Roy Hodgson

Sammy Lee

Kenny Daglish

It doesn't leave many... This is part of what I was saying previously; it wasn't that I thought Benitez was perfect/infallible, it was that I was also fearful about who we'd end up getting or who'd be prepared to come. You'd have to have pretty big balls to come in under the current climate.

Blanc would've been agreeable (but is soon to be unveiled as the France national manager) or Hiddink (really can't see it happening at all though).

Ironically enough (seeing as I'm talking to you!) Bilic wouldn't be too shabby in the circumstances.

You were full of ideas.

Yep, which is why I said, "...it wasn't that I thought Benitez was perfect/infallible, it was that I was also fearful about who we'd end up getting or who'd be prepared to come." Not to mention not wanting that mess of a board to be selecting a new manager, for fear of who they'd want.

You knew best though.

I did know best. I said Mourinho while you were crying.

I was crying with laughter at the mention of it, probably. Then again, it was the typical, never-going-to-happen refrain of the shuffling remedial masses last season, so you're keeping good company at least.

In an ideal world then yes, Hodgson should be given some time. But it is a very different landscape now to when Houllier/Rafa were appointed, in that there are a number of teams who have invested wisely and are rightly above us in the table - so time is no longer a commodity a Liverpool manager has. It isn't right, but it is the way it is.

I think Roy should have the rest of the season, mind; we've had too much drama over the last year or so and it isn't helpful to the club. We have great fans, let's show it and get behind everybody involved with the club and see what the transfer window brings.

I agree completely.

That's not very obvious at all. It's an under performing team/squad. The statistics bear that out. As has been mentioned many times, we had a lot of players representing their countries at the World Cup, with some of our players participating in the final of the competition.

Regarding not having "ordinary" players, that was more a reflection of sentiment in here and match of the day :D I hope it's not the case that our fair selection of world cup representative players are really just, ordinary.

City would've 'caught' anyone up - that would tend to happen when you spend 200m+ over a couple of transfer windows. Spurs have also seen large squad investment over the past few windows. However, it's as much them catching us up as it is us standing still/going backwards over that same timescale. If you want to stay higher up the table, you need to keep investing, which is the opposite of what we've been doing for a couple of years now.

I agree about us not keeping the investment on, but again the debate rages as per Ramone's posts about Rafa having spent trillions ;)

EDIT: Regarding your point about giving Hodgson a window, it's not really going to happen. That's why FSG brought in Comolli. Not to mention that fact that Hodgson's traditional transfer dealings flies in the face of FSG's preferred model of bringing younger players in, not the late-twenties-early-thirties players that Hodgson ("Young players only give you relegation") tends to favour, tied in to long contracts on large salaries, leaving next to no resale value.

Here's hoping that we can get someone in that can get the best out of our current bunch and set us up for the future.

Yeah lets get Messi and Ronaldo too.

Good idea!!

Now now, don't be like that, this was back when it was slightly feasible. When he was at Inter and before they won absolutely everything. I don't think the Inter job is bigger than the Liverpool job. I mean if you were an Inter fan a couple of years ago and you said LET'S GET MOURINHO and then some dumbass on the inter forum piped up with YEAH AND LET'S GET MESSI and then Mourinho was appointed that melon should keep his mouth closed. But apparently he was on mega bucks. The point was Hodgson was by no means my preferred option so the melons in this thread somehow thinking the fact that Hodgson is failing is something they can rub in my face and are gloating at our club's poor results, well, those people need to get a grip. And Bilic was my preferred option.

If we win 2nite I'm going to claim Hodgson WAS my first choice all along.
