Lucas was my MotM today. Absolutely brilliant.

Agreed. He's really stepped it up this season, and was immense today. I don't want to get carried away but he's beginning to look like Xabi, just with less of a passing repertoire and more mobility. I was looking at his chalkboards for a few of our games and they're very impressive.

Come off it. He definitely looked better today but Xabi has been just about the best midfielder in the world for the past 5 or 6 years!

I dunno, "midfielder" is a pretty broad term. Messi, Ronaldo, Kaka, Essien, Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas etc could all be considered midfielders... Alonso is bloody great but thats tough competition.

Don't talk to me about 'the best' anything, you maniac. I bet if you'd have seen me on here talking up Xabi as one of the best around (as I was, back in '05), you'd have been on here to tell us all that he's nothing compared to the mighty Gravesen.

Lucas has really improved this season, and he's been fantastic for the last few games. He is actually very similar to Alonso in the way he reads the game, and the types of positions he takes up. He's become very good at controlling the tempo, and winning the midfield battles. He's very similar in style to Mikel and, like Mikel, he probably won't receive the credit he deserves until he's won some big trophies.

Gravesen? It was all about Lee Carsley back then.

I said at the start of last season that Lucas would step it up and come out of his shell. The cunt was a year late. ;)

I remember us both saying that last summer. He did improve last season, but for every good performance we had to endure a couple of patchy ones. He's added the missing consistency and maturity to his game.

Brilliant stuff!

I couldn't watch the match this afternoon, so just stuck it on and decided to do a full viewing instead of the MOTD2 highlights. I just had a feeling about this one and, having avoided the usual channels of Facebook/the Internet all day I settled down to enjoy a cracking match.

Kuyt started off really well, playing up top with Torres certainly paid off. The pass for the first goal was wonderful.

Meireles impressed with his tracking back, although his passing still wasnt 100% it seems to be improving as his games notch up.

Gerrard was fantastic in the first half and really bossed the game.

Kelly impressed as Chelsea kept coming down the Liverpool left, a tough ask it was against Cole, Malouda, and eventually Drogba.

Torres...

Terry is a hateful man; his knee high attack on Torres, the smash into Kuyt, how he didn't get a booking at least is beyond me.

Alex could have gone for the Ngog challenge, yet we all know that Webb really bottled the clear penalty.

Worse he's let Cech off a red card that could well hurt Chelsea and change the shape of the table.

One of their players deserved a red, that's for sure.

A magnificent result, some decent defending, and a few slices of luck (balanced by the ref bottling the yellows/reds for the Chelsea players). A pretty good day :D

Good game good game. Too soon to proclaim Lucas good, a few games ago he was as bad as ever. There are many players we've said are going to turn out awesome who haven't. But he played well as everybody did.

And well done Roy hodgson. Can I have a big shout out for our man Roy? He doesn't seem to have been mentioned (no surprises!)

But the next game will probably be a better reflection of where we're at. It's easier for the players to lift themselves against the likes of Chelsea.

Great second from torres. Somebody in the champions league scored one like it this week. Ronaldo?

Only managed to watch the MOTD2 highlights, but we seemed to play pretty well and although Chelsea apparently had all the game in the second half, we still created as many chances as them. Torres' both goals were absolutely superb. The pass for the first by Kuyt was outstanding, I thought it was a Gerrard ball at first, and the second was just sublime. What a hit, the sort of goals he was scoring beginning of the last season. 3 wins in a row, we are moving nicely up the table and things are starting to come off for us. Wigan next, and we need to keep going. I'm hoping Hodgson sticks to what he has been doing, keep the same team and play the same type of football. Forget the two holding midfielders, keep Poulsen on the bench where he belongs.

Chelsea did boss the second half but they were always going to. We were two goals up! It was also good because Chelsea played well and we smashed them. Better than saying they were rubbish and we won.

And yeah poulson is rubbish but he would have played well yesterday as everybody else did. Even konchesky did okay! So let's try and get behind the team even poulson and Lucas.

I think you'll find I was suggesting that Roy deserves some praise earlier ;)

I'm sure it'll be claimed that someone else is running the team, as it is frowned upon to suggest Roy has done anything decent.

Was great to finally see a bit of resiliance at the back, hopefully that can continue with a settled side.

My Chelsea supporting colleague at work was very complementary about Liverpool, with special mentions to Lucas and Gerrard.

Looking forward to Wigan on Wednesday now :)

Heh I saw that. I didn't mean you. As far as I know it's only me and you and dogsout who actually want Roy to succeed.

I dont think anyone wanted him to fail?

Sure, there were a few who questioned his tactics early on, and some of his selection decisions, but I can only think of a few who actually wanted him out after 4/5 games.

I cant be bothered to check but werent you the guy who wanted Liverpool to lose so that Rafa would be sacked?

Anyhow, it seems everytime I dont watch Liverpool they win so I am going to stop watching them this season. Great result for us and hopefully it will allow us to turn the corner. We just need to sort out our away form now!
