I think they're gonna suffer enough from the World Club Cup anyway.

I don't think we'll suffer from the WCC itself but the 2 games we have to catch up on could cause a bit of congestion later in the season. On the upside we've got a massive squad and very few players (if any) have had to play more than 90% of our games this season. I think getting knocked out of the FA cup/CL would help United in the league, while hoping Liverpool get FA Cup replays and tough PL away games after CL games. The next few months should be interesting to say the least!

Keane has just about pulled his weight so far and I'd be amazed if he doesn't come good given time and the right conditions.

As for the other three: you should listen to me more often. I talked up all three of them in here before they signed. :)

In all seriousness, if anyone had watched Riera a decent amount of times last season they'd have known what we were getting; a bargain.

I have to admit dogsout, you're usually right. In fact I can't think of a time when you've been wrong.

I can; I was completely and utterly wrong about Speedy. :(

Come to think about it, I was wrong about Morientes as well. I think everyone was surprised at how he turned out, though. After watching a fair bit of Kuyt in Holland I expected him to score 20+ a season here. Although I was saying he should be switched to the right way before it happened. I was talking up Robbie Keane in here and the Tottenham thread BIG STYLE a year before we signed him and so far he hasn't done me many favours. Although it has to be said I fully expect him to turn it around. I also expected Dossena to settle much quicker than he has and I didn't expect him to be so poor positionally. I predicted he'd be a big success here and although it's still way too early to judge him, he's struggled so far. I've probably forgotten a load more in between.

But scratch all that, I like your (sig worthy) take on me better. :)

Before his arrival Ballague described Riera as the best left winger in Europe when in form. The only issue was that it would take the right manager to keep getting the best out of him. I really don't need to say any more (except that Riera really does look like a Spanish Buzz Lightyear).

David Speedie? That's going back a bit, although god knows why Dalglish signed him. He was losing it by then though.

Just before we signed him I was working on a trial with two counsel; one junior and one senior. The senior was overly efficient which meant that me and the junior could sit around talking shite a lot of the time. We used to work together when we were both in-house but I'd left to go to uni and he'd gone off travelling and come back and got his advocacy rights in the mean time. Anyway, he's from Donegal but is a proper Red and gets up to Anfield quite often. Now, this lad is the fucking spit of Riera. He was saying he didn't want Riera because he didn't sound like he was any good. The next day they had Riera's picture in the paper and he's stood there sporting the most confused expression I can remember seeing, going "he looks like someone I know but I can't think who".

Hmm maybe I backed the wrong dog!

To be fair, we're both usually right.

Edit: And daveypauly. He knows his shit too.

Many moons ago we both mentioned a young man called Insua that would someday make a full breakthrough. Funnily enough he's nearly our first choice leftback now. ^_^

To be fair there's plenty out there that could see that Insua was way beyond reserve level ages ago. Next one to come through could be Darby and personally speaking I can't wait to see Nemeth get a few first team minutes on the pitch.

Looks like Fergie's 'mind games' have worked for the first time in a while! If only Benitez had done the Keegan comment with his Spanish accent, that would have been ace.

Expected response, there.

Comparing it to the Keegan outburst?

Nope, I just said it would have been ace had he done the 'I'd love it....' in his accent. In all fairness the overall tone of the transcript isn't all that different to Keegans ramblings, especially seeing as Fergie's comments weren't even that bad.

This is the same as the Chelsea thing at the start of the season, it wasn't like he just offered the information out of the blue, it is in response to a question.

Giving an insight into a personal obsession with a rival manager read in a shaky voice off a piece of paper that he just happened to have in his pocket? I'd say that puts him at Keegan levels of wound-up, yeah.

Or a level of preparedness that he knew he was going to be asked a question about Ferguson's comments and wanted to get his facts in order first?

If Fergie's comments hadn't of gotten to him then he would have just said that he believes in his players and that he (Fergie) is talking nonsense. The daft thing is that he knows full well that the comments will have no bearing on Fergie, especially as he's turned over bigger points defecits in the past. All credit to him for doing some research though!

In saying that Sir Alex never receives punishment for his outbursts, he hardly got his facts in order. Complaining about someone attacking officials and going on about the Respect campaign which the exploits of one of his players helped bring about and then launching a personal attack on a fellow manager in the same interview wasn't the most cleverly constructed argument either.

Sir Alex refused to comment in his interview this afternoon and concentrated on this weekend's match instead. That's how you do it.

Oh, come off it - making out that Fergie is some sort of reserved, dignified gentleman.

Let's be honest about our responses here: we're going to say, "Good on you, Rafa - it's about time someone called that fucker out, etc."

Conversely, you lot will celebrate how the Master of Mindgames has claimed another victim.

We're never going to agree.

We're never going to agree.

As neutrals we could probably agree that Mourinho knew how to deal with mind games properly. Sir Alex never got to him and lost two out of three titles in the process. I doubt we'll see Mourinho reading his press conference answers from a script when it comes to the Champions League clash next month.

That said, I bet we can't agree on that either.

As for Benitez, it's more to do with what the press do to him than what us fans say: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/ja...l-alex-ferguson

It was a bit cringe worthy to watch. I'd much rather Rafa not give him the time of day. If Liverpool have a wobble it will be reported as Ferguson's genius mind games now. I suppose it gets Gerrard off the hook if the team have a dip, which may in fact be the true genius of Rafa's rant at the end of it all...
