Come on West Ham! Help us to completly undeservedly retain top spot...

Can't see it happening though. OR CAN I?!

Yeah if Rafa just buys a couple of Spainish Midfielders in January I will not be impressed!

I'd be impressed, I doubt we'll buy anyone.

I hereby formally withdraw this comment with immediate effect.

You should ban yourself from this thread for the rest of the season with comments like that.

Unbelievable.

I really cant believe we are still top of the league, every time we drop points everyone else seems to as well, also largely against "lesser" teams.

This is what I'm talking about with the perspective stuff - a draw to us is usually met with crap like, "Well, that's it now, we're fucked, we're shit, etc."

One game at a time is all you should look at.

Arsenal next then... Im not looking forward to that :/

I'm actually looking forward to it far more than I would be if we were playing Wigan or something.

I must say, the coverage of sports across Asia (China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand) is amazing! I've seen more games on my travels than ever at home :S

Anyhow, we're still top and I'm hoping with our best form ahead of us? I'm feeling pretty confident against Arsenal. I think the Liverpool fans need to just get behind the team and be confident in the fact that we can win the title this season.

ed: How were we doing this time last season? I'm also wondering if perhaps a number of teams normally way outside the top 4 have done a little catch up this season?!

This is how the table looked this time last season:

Premier League season 2007-2008 after stage 17

Poz Team Pld W D L F A PTS
1 Arsenal 17 12 4 1 34 14 40
2 Manchester United 17 12 3 2 30 8 39
3 Chelsea 17 10 4 3 24 10 34
4 Liverpool 17 9 6 2 31 10 33
5 Manchester City 17 10 3 4 24 19 33
6 Everton 17 9 3 5 31 16 30
7 Portsmouth 17 8 6 3 28 15 30
8 Aston Villa 17 8 4 5 28 20 28
9 Blackburn Rovers 17 7 5 5 23 24 26
10 Newcastle United 17 7 4 6 24 26 25
11 West Ham United 17 6 4 7 20 18 22
12 Tottenham Hotspur 17 4 6 7 29 29 18
13 Reading FC 17 5 3 9 22 34 18
14 Middlesbrough 17 4 5 8 16 28 17
15 Birmingham City 17 4 3 10 18 27 15
16 Bolton Wanderers 17 3 5 9 18 27 14
17 Sunderland 17 3 5 9 16 32 14
18 Fulham 17 2 7 8 18 28 13
19 Wigan Athletic 17 3 3 11 17 33 12
20 Derby County 17 1 3 13 6 39 6

Last season compared with this season so far:

Liverpool: 33 -> 38 (+5)

Chelsea: 34 -> 37 (+3)

Man U: 39 -> 32 (-7) played one game less

Arsenal: 40 -> 30 (-10)

Man U have played all/most of the top 10 sides away though, so have an easier run-in, but a probable fixture congestion problem later in the season.

If anything, there is a bigger gap between the top sides and the middle-chasing pack so far.

So, come on then...is the little Irish scamp in or out? Story on Sky Sports this morning about a conversation between Lawro and Stevie G (him and Keane share the same agent), apparantly somethings going on.

Personally I hope he fucks off. I have strong views on the man, always rated him as a player but his attitude is fucking tiresome. Not a good professional. He just doesn't fit in, a mistake by the club but it could have turned out completely different so I don't blame them for gambling.

Bye Robbie!

Not a chance. At £19 million he's going nowhere. Further more I think he'll come good when we finally play 4-4-2's in the second half of the season when he's partnered up front with Torres.

Obviously, I understand that. I just don't like the way he's handled himself, he's like a little kid sometimes. Just doesn't fit in...he doesn't look right in the shirt either!

Nah. I don't like being substituted either and I would have no hesitation showing my frustration just like Keane does. It just shows he cares. He's perfect to play behind Torres if our Spanish friend manages to stay fit for longer than five minutes.

The worry you've got is Man U are ALWAYS better in the new year.

When Ronaldo came back this season they started doing much better too, and if he stays fit and doesn't get sent off for *NOT THE FACE* things, then you could see them doing it all again...

Mind you, so are we. I read somewhere that in the last four seasons, our second half of the season has been stronger than the first. Hopefully, we can continue that.

Who's the midfield in a 4-4-2? Gerrard back on the right?

That would be good (Gerrard--Alonso--Mascherano--Riera), but I can't see it. Mayeb Babel or Benayoun on the right if we go 4-4-2. I suspect we will be 4-2-3-1 with Gerrard, Kuyt and Riera as the 3 with Keane up front.

Exactly! We play the 4-5-1 thing brilliantly. Masch, Gerrard, Alonso, Riera, Babel/Kuyt + Torres...how the fuck can you fault that. Just sell the moody little Irish bellend and spend whatever we get for him on a left wing back. SORTED.

Ignore Das, he doesn't know what hes on about. He's had it in for Keane since he joined the club. Das hates the irish. He also wears a Liverpool top with Arbeloa on the back, number 7! He has this sick fantasy that Arbeloa will play up front with Torres, and Keane was just another wall in front of his twisted dream that hes trying to break down. He also shaves his beard to mirror Xabi Alonso's latest style, and has constructed a shrine to Torres' girlfriend made out of bits of her hair and spat out chewing gum, which he keeps in his en-suite, which he doesn't let his girlfriend use. Also the first time he went to see Liverpool at Anfield last year he went home after 29 minutes because Benayoun went off injured, whilst muttering to himself "thats us fucked then".

Fuck off Das.

Draw is happening:

Chelsea v Juventus

Villarreal v Panathinaikos

Sporting Lisbon v Bayern Munich

Atletico Madrid v Porto

Lyon v Barcelona

Real Madrid v Liverpool

Arsenal v Roma

Inter Milan v Manchester United

Real Madrid are still free. Argh! Will update post.

EDIT: Shit.

Ah well, up for a challenge anyway. I feel we'd have more chance against RM than the likes of Panathinaikos or Lyon.
