Capello was pissed off at Gerrard having surgery and missing the last two qualifiers. He then goes and pulls out of the squad for the friendly after completing ninety minutes for his club without any visible pain, national managers are entitled to call up players to assess their injuries for themselves, I really can't see what the problem is.

As for Ballack he's just saying what most of us are thinking, that United are still the team to be most feared, just like the United lot saw Chelsea as more of a threat than Arsenal last season even when the table told a different story.

Welcome to your world?

We've always had it, ever since our days of domination - all of the current pundits grew up or played in a time where we won everything and they despise us for it and love it when we falter.

As have we. Constantly. Every single day. At least the press don't try to destroy your players with constant haranguing over practically nothing, they seem to take immense satisfaction in dismantling excellent GKs especially.

Gerrard is one of the only top players that plays 90minutes for his country whether its a friendly or a qualifier. He rarely gets pulled from squads, unlike other teams players. He needed the surgery otherwise he would have played both those as well.

So most people are thinking that Liverpool will forever be a Champions League only team? Even though we won the league 18times? Be fearful more of United by all means but don't patronise us as some lowely team especially when Chelsea have written their long standing history in the last 5 years!

Our history's irrelevant in that respect.

It was a long time ago and means little in relation to a contemporary title challenge with this particular squad. If anything (and what Carra alluded to with yesterday's comments), the weight of expectation from us as fans adds even more pressure.

We don't know how this current squad will deal with that pressure, especially during the run-in. We're used to fighting error-prone teams for fourth place in the March-May period.

The only way we'll shut anyone up (rival teams' players and pundits alike) is to win the damn thing.

Who's patronising you? I can see you being condescending but that's it. You've won the league 18 times a long time ago, in the past few seasons United and Chelsea have fought out the title and Liverpool have done very well in the CL. Why should Ballack or anyone else for that matter look that far back? I fear United in the league; I'd also rather play United than your lot in the CL knockouts. Arsenal won the league a few years back but no cunt's afraid of them at the moment.

The same applies to Gerrard and England. He misssed the PREVIOUS two games because of the surgery then pulls out after completing 90 minutes with no ill effect. Capello's entitled to ask questions if it happens twice in a row, surely?

If I'm following your line of thinking I'd better cancel that holiday to Italy next year because they were awful wankers with that whole Roman Empire thing.

Exactly.

Right, I wasn't being condescending to you I was annoyed (overly I admit) with Ballack saying what he did. In my eyes HE was being patronising.

The main words I had problems with; and to be fair I've made far too much out of this, was Liverpool will ALWAYS be a Champions League side.

I know it is pretty irrelevant to quote that we have won the league 18 times along time ago but I was just trying to state that Liverpool aren't ALWAYS a Champions League side.

Anyway, fuck it, we will see come the end of May whether we made it a 3 horse race or not.

Fingers crossed we will beat Marseille tomorrow and we can concentrate on getting back to winning ways in the league on monday against West Ham.

Any takers on what team will be playing tonight? I was wondering whether Rafa will put out his strongest side seeming we don't have another game for 5 days and we don't have the travelling involved in away games. I personally would like us to start with all the big names and then draft in some fringe players when/if we are winning.

Surely he won't leave Alonso on the bench again?! I'm personally loving the Gerrard, Masch, Alonso, Riera midfield at the moment.

I'm going with 2-0 tonight with Kuyt and Torres to get on the score sheet.

The Liverpool team in full: Reina, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Carragher, Agger, Mascherano, Alonso, Riera, Kuyt, Gerrard, Torres. Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Benayoun, Lucas, Babel, Keane, Kelly.

I would say that's probably our strongest team at the moment. Good to see Martin Kelly from the Academy is on the bench too :)

Dossena really needs to find some form and quickly. Pretty poor all round last night but Dossena had a shocker despite only playing a half. I still can't fathom why Lyon sold Ben Arfa to Marseille.

I'm sure that him and Benzema were supposed to detest each other. Wasn't the Nasri deal a part in that also?

It's fair to say that Nasri and Ben Arfa are comparable players. It looks as if Benzema's departure from Lyon is inevitable next summer as well. That'll be their top two young talents gone in the space of a year.

The run doesn't look too bad...the only team I'm concerned with is Hull (in the next 10). One game at a time, eh?

It's not the teams that we're due to face that concerns me, it's the frequency of games over the Christmas period. We've already got players that look a bit like they could do with a rest and Torres' quality could make the difference in games where we're flat.

It's about time Ryan Babel was unleashed and never, ever starting on a wing.
