...it was clear for all to see that he was kicked about and afforded no protection from the referee and subsequently booked for complaining about it.

It was horrible - I had the misfortune of witnessing that one (the game at OT) in the flesh.

You would've been arrested for some of that on the street.

I sort of meant the fact he plays deep permanently. Just wondered if it was a concern. He is no longer a striker in my eyes and much more an attacking midfielder.

In the last 2 premiership games he has played as the sole striker with Tevez dropping off. He has said himself the he is much more suited to play in the hole but without a center forward to leave a hole he hasn't been able to play there. Much like Ronaldo isn't generally considered a midfielder anymore I would agree that Rooney isn't generally considered a striker.

The problem as I mentioned before was that he was up top completely on his own. If there had been 2 or god forbid 3 players in the last third of the pitch then the 'abuse' Torres received would have been shared between them all and it would have been no different to any other game. Unless you are going to tell referees to dish out cards and fouls based on the quantity of tackles a player receives what can you do? Benitez was a fool for leaving him completely out on his own against the best central defense in the league.

What?

We're not on the same page here. We're talking about fouls, not tackles. Torres was continuously fouled and the referee did nothing to stop it. On one of the few occasions he did award us a free-kick, Torres decided he would have a moan as to why he's still letting it go on and it resulted in him getting booked. Surprisingly, the fouls continued after this incident.

Just replace tackles with fouls in what I wrote then. I doubt there were any more fouls in that game, even if you include the ones that weren't given, than any other game. I don't think we're quite on the same wavelength with this so i'll leave it for now. At least we can agree the yellow card Torres got was daft.

Anyway, good luck for the weekend fingers crossed it's more exciting than usual!

I think the point is that the fouls shouldn't have gone unpunished; if Ronaldo was encountering any of those, he would've been down in a heartbeat (with the most likely outcome being freekicks conceeded/cards issued).

All rivalry and bias aside, I was genuinely shocked that day how 'physical' Rio and co were with Torres - it didn't have anything to do with numbers up front/of tackles or tactics.

Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard have both been passed fit to face Manchester United at Anfield this weekend.

Both players completed a light training session at Melwood this morning and have been included in the squad to take on Alex Ferguson's men tomorrow.

For those that are active over on RAWK: it looks like Shankslegend was on the money once more.

Great news, it'll give us a real confidence boost going into tomorrow's game.

I'm really hoping they're actually fit rather 'barely alive' or whatever it is. Tough game whatever's going on, mind.

Well, Shankslegend had said earlier this week that Torres would probably start and Stevie would probably make an appearance from the bench. Torres was said to be sprinting without problems today so I guess he's OK.

He also said that YNWA was going to be played as the players shake hands again due to the poxy Premier League song being played as the players make their way onto the pitch. I really hope it doesn't turn into another cock-up like it did at the 'Boro game.

Remember dogsout - never hit a woman.

That's what I've always thought, too. There's a first time for everything, though, and hopefully for Gabzy's sake, Saturday will be the first time Rafa has taken 3 points off you lot. You hear me, Man U fans? Tell Fergie I've got your Gabzy and unless we're 6 points clear of you come Saturday night, you won't get her back.

You know you'd only hurt yourself, Gabz. Remember I advised you not to come.

Seriously, though, I hate watching these games with you, Liverpool always lose. :(

:D

So it's Gabzy's fault we always lose to the Mancs? Only let her watch TV from outside your window, dogsout!

Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres have been named on the Liverpool bench for the lunchtime clash with Manchester United. Listen to the game live online at 12.45pm BST.

Albert Riera will make his debut on the wing, while Dirk Kuyt and Robbie Keane start up front.

The Reds XI in full is: Reina, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Carragher, Skrtel, Alonso, Mascherano, Riera, Benayoun, Keane, Kuyt. Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Hyypia, Ngog, Torres, Gerrard, Babel.

Sigh. Why Benayoun again?! Surely Babel would be the better option. The only way I can see it working is if we set up like:

Reina

Arbeloa Carra Skrtel Aurelio

Mascherano Alonso

Kuyt Benayoun Riera

Keane

They're not starting? Clearly lies last night.

Why oh why did I leave Carragher in my fantasty league team? Well to drop Ashley Cole cos he's rubbish.

I just woke up. Anywhere online I can watch this, cant see anything on Sopcast

CRAP. As much as I thought. I thought "Have faith have faith" and we're behind already.

Pathetic! LEt's see if we can turn it around. Otherwise I feel Benetiz may be off soon.
