Yeah, I agree, he won't be a bad signing but I would have honestly preferred Downing. Anyone else got tickets to the match tomorrow? Apparently there are still tickets on sale.

The match the other day was a disaster but at least we got a win, I’d be happy with that tomorrow. Is it premature to call that championship winning form?

Fuck them. If they're talking like that I'd be willing to bet they haven't seen anything of him in the last two seasons; the usual mix of ignorance and arrogance you'd expect from that shower.

He was one of the most consistent performers in La Liga last season. I'm very surprised at the fee, considering it had been claimed all summer that they were looking for 20 million Euros. I think he'll be a good addition to the squad and provide Rafa with some much needed "possibilities" on the left.

Hopefully he'll be able to help provide the creativity we've been lacking. What's his crossing like?

And apparently:

Benitez would like to further add to his squad but the Reds boss will have to concentrate on moving players on before re-entering the transfer market.

Which is interesting - right-sided winger maybe?

So then, against Villa (maybe):

Reina

Carra Agger Skrtel Dossena

Babel Gerrard Masch Riera

Keane Torres

That's looking a lot better  (Carra instead of Arbeloa, as he's not been playing too well recently.)

He's a good crosser of the ball. He's not the quickest so he relies on a bit of trickery and an early delivery.

I'd prefer to see us revert to our 4-2-3-1 against the Villa. We just don't have the personnel to play 4-4-2 unless Stevie is moved to the right. Something like:

---------------Reina

Arbeloa--Carra---Agger--Dossena

-----------Masch---Xabi

----Gerrard--Keane--Babel

---------------Torres

With the 'three' interchanging throughout.

I'm looking forward to the game tonight, surely it can't be as bad as the first leg? I'm gonna be keeping a close eye on Keane as so far (it is early days) he is struggling to fit in with our play IMO. I wanna see us rampant tonight, 3 or 4 goals would be nice with all the forwards grabbing one.

Reira could well be a good signing. I have to admit I haven't seen much of him and don't really remember him at City. I'm just hoping he can offer a bit of line play rather the usual cut inside stuff that all the other boys do. It will be nice to get Benayoun out of the first 11 as well as I just don't think he is good enough for it.

I think that is largely down to the scraps he's been feeding on due to us playing a 4-4-2 with Yossi and Kuyt as wingers. The sooner we get back to playing the system we did for the last 4 months of last season the better.

I don't remember him at City either but I watch my fair share of La Liga and he's looked a very good player over the last couple of years, last season in particular.

To be honest I'd prefer it if we keep scraping wins at this stage of the season. Having an underforming start to a season while still winning can be the best way to be. It focusses everyone on continuing to improve. I think we'll get through tonight 1-0.

A bit of width should free up some space for Keane and Torres. At the moment, everytime they get the ball they have about 3 defenders within 5 yards of them and it takes a miracle to score from such situations.

I would like to see more of that zsar zsar gabor fella on the right, he looks like he has the pace to play the wing well.

Yeah no doubt we'll revert back to that soon enough, just gives us an option to play 4-4-2 if need be.

I've got a feeling Aurelio will play on the left tonight:

Reina

Arbeloa Carra Skrtel Dossena

Babel/Kuyt Gerrard Alonso Aurelio

Keane Torres

Losing a tyre is never a nice business.

The Liverpool team in full: Reina, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Carragher, Skrtel, Gerrard, Alonso, Benayoun, Kuyt, Torres, Keane. Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Agger, Plessis, Spearing, El Zhar, Babel.

I was close. Very youthful bench there too.

Hopefully Benayoun can repay Rafa's faith in him.
