You gotta spend omney to make money though. If we've got arounsd £20M for Barry and we give into the £17M ans Finnan that only leave us around £3M for Keane. We clearly need some more money off Hick and Gillet if they want Keane too.

But I think if we get Keane and Barry we should have a much more solid midfeild and strike force. We pretyt much have the players bellow to pick a 1st team squad from (if Alonso goes)

Reina

Dorseena, Carra, Skrtl, Agger, Aurelio, Arbeloa

Kuyt, Gerrard, Barry, Babel, Benayoun, Pennant, Lucas, Mascherano *edit* (how did I miss him off? I dunno)

Torres, Keane

I think with those players we can put in a pretty good chance of going for the title and if not this year, maybe next year we get 1 more world class player (I prey it's Villa) and then we take the title.

How could you forget Mascherano? :(

I don't think it's time to panic or slag off the owners just yet. Well, not regarding this summer's spending anyway. There's still plenty of time left in this window for Rafa to make the transfers he needs to. For all we know he's lining them all up to be completed around the same time so as to avoid publicly flaunting his transfer budget. If he puts £18m down on Barry today he'll have Tottenham putting a £25m price tag on Keane tomorrow.

Like I said before: I trust Rafa to make the right signings and given his recent demeanour, I believe things aren't nearly as bad as we've been led to believe.

Oh yeah, Elisha Scott reckons "the Keane thing is close to being finalised".

And include Pennant :(

The worrying thing is, that would pretty much be the extent of our squad if we end up selling everyone :P

Fair enough, that could be happening - they could just be being sneaky, saying things about having to be clever with signings etc. But then why are we selling Carson for £3.5m? And trying to offload Alonso? Carson was Villa's first choice last season, he's English and he's played a few times for England - and he's only in his early twenties. Surely he's worth far more? Ok so Alonso might not have had the best of seasons last year, but I don't believe for one second we'd even be contemplating selling him if we didn't need to raise the cash.

The likes of Voronin, Pennant and Itandje do need to be moved on (and I'm glad we're at a stage now where it's only a handful that need to, rather than half a team) so I'm absolutely fine with seeing them go - I'm just worried we're hardly going to get any money at all from them, and end up having to sell others (and that Voronin might stay - that gives me nightmares :P).

If he was any use Aston Villa would have kept him as part of the Barry deal. He's not actually that good.

Seconded. He arrived at Villa as a £10m-rated keeper, but he certainly didn't leave the same way. I think the problem might be one of concentration; he did very well at Charlton the season before when he was busy, but he seemed to switch off a lot at Villa last year. I think he probably cost us 5-10 goals by failing to complete the basics properly.

A shame - I really wanted him to succeed.

Not bad first half. Great goal from Voronin but really can't see what he is gonna offer us in the premiership again next year. Same with Benayoun.

Impressed so far with Leto, linking up well with Insua, Plessis looks very composed and the striker; Pacheco looks nifty.

Can't say Cavaliera or Degen has impressed at all yet!!

I liked the boy who was the under 19's captain. Jay something, he looked very composed for a 19 year old. I thought Babel looked piss poor though as much as I think he has potential, he didn't look like he gave a shit. Insua looked decent going forward but a bit suspect in defence sometimes. You can't take these friendlies for much but for people like Babel he's only a fringe player. It's not like he's an automatic choice and every games an opportunity to impress.

i assume your owners will sort out some more money once the stadiums been financed? seems a bit silly to buy a top four club and not give the manager every chance of winning the title.

Who knows? There's every possibility that they (Hicks in particular) bought the club with the sole intention of tapping into the fan base and making money through merchandise streams, new markets and the blind loyalty of thousands of Reds that will fill up the stadium and support their team every single week, whether it's successful or not.

I'm not quite as wary of them now as I was throughout last season, mostly due to Gillett's stance. They seem to have put their differences aside and I can only think that is down to a change in Hicks' attitude toward, and plans for, the club. I'm willing to wait and see what transpires during this window before slagging off the lack of money being made available but that's about as much courtesy as I'd be willing to extend. I'm not happy with what went on last season and I'd still prefer to see them sell up and move on, although that doesn't seem likely just now. Hopefully they can at least adhere to the Liverpool way and continue to keep their mouths shut, and let the manager get on with his job.

Depth. Yossi in particular is a quality option to have knocking around the squad. He's versatile, doesn't kick up a fuss about a lack of playing time and always gives his best when he plays. He's also a pretty good option from the bench for any of the attacking 3 behind the striker. I still think Voronin has more to offer than we saw last season but hopefully we won't have to rely on him to show it.

I posted pretty much the same thing about him after he went to Charlton. He was never worth the £10m but I'd be surprised if we haven't added a sell on clause to these bids because, being so young, he could still develop into a quality keeper in time.

You'd hope so - indifferent season or not at Villa, he was still a good keeper for Charlton the year before, there's definitely the potential there.

Elisha Scott said this today: "Everything is done, fee, personal terms. He just needs to have his medical. Hopefully that will be today/tomorrow".

Fucking hold me.

Tonight Spurs have reported both us and Utd for tapping up players. Maybe they're bitter about something ;)

And Carson went for £3.25m today - rising to £3.75m :)

In better news, apparently we have to offload Voronin in order to be able to afford to buy anyone.

The Liverpool team in full: Cavalieri, Darby, Dossena, Agger, Carragher, Plessis, Lucas, Leto, Benayoun, Babel, Voronin. Subs: Martin, Hyypia, Skrtel, Pacheco, Aurelio, Pennant, Kuyt, Mascherano, Insua, Spearing, Hobbs.

Dossena finally gets his first start ;)

Hopefully Pacheco gets a full 45 minutes. Good to see Leto again, he looked good in flashes the other night. Hopefully Babel will be at least a tiny bit fit and hopefully he'll not be so disinterested this time. ;)

For all the talk of us being in trouble with the lack of Barry signing and Lucas & Mascherano buggering off to the Olympics, it has to be said that Plessis has yet to put a foot wrong.
