Literally, everything.

They've been picking away at our players...so and so won't go to them...it's all the medias fault...bla bla bla.

:P

So you're saying the media don't play a part in unsettling players (and teams) and that clubs don't do exactly the same thing to ones they want?

Hilarious

Obviously you are a bigger club but I doubt you know why. And why do you support Liverpool (genuinely interested)?

Well you just said it, so why do I need to know how much Gerrard branded pants sell for? We're obviously the bigger club.

Best mate at school was a scouser, got me into football and Liverpool. Used to make me watch all his old videos and stuff, got hooked on them. I really hate it when people ask that question, though...by the way. Why should I have to justify it?

Ermmm. Nope, where did I say that Einstein? I said you sounded bitter. I didn't say you were talking bollocks.

Bitter? What are you talking about? To discredit us as a much smaller club really shows your knowledge. Have you ever looked at the differences in revenue made between the two clubs or our respective honors. Obviously you are a bigger club but I doubt you know why. And why do you support Liverpool (genuinely interested)?

Also, I like the fact that just because I don't post in the football threads very often you assume I don't know my football. Pretty hilarious. I'm a total football nerd, ask ya boy.

So me saying it like it is is bitterness? I'm laying out the facts of the matter here, the bones of the case. If you think that bitterness then think again. I'm delighted we're where we are, I spent most of my youth following a Spurs team that was lucky to break the top 10, and now we're seeing some of the greatest young talent and highly rated players come to play for us. The only thing I'm bitter about in football is Juventus' relegation when 4 other teams got off the hook, which is why I love seeing AC Milan fail in Serie A so spectacularly this year.

Not the Barry and Keane stories though.

A Birmingham newspaper leaked the Barry story first, and (according to the papers) we made our interest in Keane known to Spurs as part of the discussions over Crouch on Friday - a full 2 days before any of the papers got wind of it. By that time Keane would have already been told. Liverpool aren't ones for using the media to unsettle players. Look how much other clubs have talked about our players this summer (Crouch, Alonso, Riise, Carson...) all before making any sort of bid. Whereas Benitez has only mentioned a player when a bid has actually been lodged (Barry).

Anyway, enough of this homoerotic tension, can anyone tell me what number Lawrenson used to use? I know he played at a time where teams just got numbers 1-11 each match, but I presume he usually got the same number when he played. Although I know he play central defender, full back and in midfield at different points so it could be changed often.

Reason i'm asking is because i'm considering getting the new away kit with Lawrenson on the back because I think it would be funny.

Number 4 I think.

See that's another stumbling block with it for me, I don't believe realistically Ramos is considering Crouch or will offer him regular football if he does. We've already got a tall, strong, massively talented prospect in Pekhart, who will likely get his chance this year, so getting Crouch is a pointless bit of business unless they know something about 6+5 that we don't.

and I'm not pinning any blame on yourselves, I just think that the whole thing is a big mess of nothing.

I'm still surprised we're going after Barry and willing to sell Alonso. Football managers move in mysterious ways...

In fact I was very surprised last summer when we sold Garcia - didn't see that one coming :P

I tend to agree, especially with the ridiculous amount you're having to pay for Barry. I'd take Alonso every day of the week.

That's what O'Neill said, but apparently a Birmingham paper had broke the story that morning (the Echo being the Liverpool afternoon paper).

Silly thing to debate really, but the Echo claimed it as an EXCLUSIVE! on 2nd May. The article was written by Tony Barrett. The main Birmingham paper is sadly fucking useless with absolutely ZERO inside track at Villa.

What's quite strange is that the article was first linked on the Villa site I read by someone with an almost identical avatar to yours.

You're right on both counts; it is a silly thing to debate and Tony Barrett was the first to run the story.

Benitez lied to me

O’Neill also pointed an accusing finger over how news of Liverpool’s offer for the England midfielder leaked out but Benitez says his conscience is clear.

“We made an offer but I think we were straight,” he added.

“When you make an official offer you do so by fax. Some people see the fax and you cannot control everything.

“The Birmingham press found out about the offer and it was not our fault. They were very clever and used that information.

“I was talking with Martin O’Neill 20 days before that and nobody knew. We were doing things properly."

That is quite strange. I made this avatar myself and I've never been onto a Villa site..... there's a Brummie avatar thief on the loose!!!

The avatar in question is just a head and shoulders picture of an elderly Johnny Cash, dressed in black (unsurprisingly), wearing a big black hat with a narrow white band.

As for all the finger-pointing between Benitez and O'Neill, I doubt we'll ever get to the bottom of it. The transfer story was vaguely interesting a couple of weeks ago, but it's just getting silly now. Barry has been banned from turning up at Villa's first day of preseason training tomorrow (Intertoto, LOL); shame it's come to this really. The deal should be sorted soon now though, I think.

Lol fair enough - my one is Bullseye legend Jim Bowen.

Yeah it'll no doubt be sorted now, it's gone too far. It gives me no pleasure we'll be taking away your captain - especially after what we went through with Gerrard. Same with Keane.

Hopefully the next couple of weeks will be good for player signings too. Looks like we'll be going after Antti Niemi (and if not him, definitely another back up for Reina) as well as wrapping up the Dossena signing after his honeymoon, and probably re-confirming Degen (at a press conference) - so that's the defence sorted.

Degen confirmed on a 4 year deal yesterday, with Dossena signed today - and now:

The agent of Diego Cavalieri has claimed the Palmeiras goalkeeper is close to joining Liverpool.

The Brazilian shot-stopper, 26, has made over 100 appearances for Palmeiras since beginning his professional career in 2002.

It now appears he could be on his way to the Premier League with Rafa Benitez looking to bring in cover for Jose Reina.

According to Cavalieri's representative Juninho Parmigiani, the player is to travel to England this weekend to finalise the deal.

Juninho told gazetaesportiva.net: "Palmeiras' board released Diego to negotiate with Liverpool and we are going to fly in to finalise the last details.

"We still cannot say that everything is closed because there are some things between Liverpool and Palmeiras and other details in the contract.

"I believe everything is going to be resolved this weekend.

"If everything goes as it was agreed, he is going to sign the contract."

Looks like Crouch is off to Portsmouth, so can see us tying up the Barry deal next week too.
