What do we think of Paul Ince?

He has the rather good accolade of being disliked by both Man Utd and Liverpool fans. Doing very well in his managerial career to be fair to him.

As for Bentley I really would not like to see him at Anfield. He's not good enough for Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea so why should he be good enough for us? David Silva please instead.

I'll tell you what, Villa's workrate is PHENOMENAMENAL. Torres has looked pretty fucked this tournament but Villa runs around like a Dirk Kuyt, you'd think HE was the Liverpool player. But then I wonder if people all over Europe were talking about Baros last time around? You know?

I hope Russia win.

You know after the World Cup I saw greatness in Villa and was a bit annoyed that we'd got Torres instead. I didn't see that he was so good at International level.

HOWEVER I feel Torres can (especially proven in the prem) create his own changes, destroy defences with his pace, and score from just about anywhere. Plus he's not a short arse and has a good jump.

We got the right guy.

I actually like Paul Ince, he won me over on doing those interview for Football Italia when he played for Inter and I've followed his career since. I wish him well at Blackburn.

Exactly. The fact that he only has a year left on his contract weakens our position somewhat but in the current market we should be looking at getting a bit more than £9m for him. I would have said £10m would have been fair enough myself but if £9m has been rejected out of hand then the club obviously doesn't agree.

Yeah, I noticed the Spanish players tend to ignore Torres if they can, what's that all about?

I think it's just the way Aragones sets them up. Villa plays between the lines so he sees more of the ball. Torres also makes some great runs which pulls defenders away but the midfield are too busy touching the ball up to notice and so his movement is invariably wasted. These runs do leave a lot of space for Villa and Silva to operate in, though, so it has worked out OK so far; it just means they aren't getting the most out of one of their best players.

Problem is it seems a waste to sell Crouch for £9m and buy Barry for £20m or whatever Aston Villa want. I can't comprehend why Barry should be worth over twice as much as Crouch.

Unfortunately it's who wants who that dictates price these days, isn't it? Barry isn't worth £20m but any UK buy is overpriced, especially if it's a big club who's after them.

Barry/Gerrard in midfield would surely be the best central midfield EVAH SEEN in the Premiership though?

Some people will probably shoot me down for this but wtf has happened to the transfer market to make Crouch worth 15m??? ;)

I thought 9m seemed a fair price

I'd usually agree but not if Villa think Barry is worth over double that amount! :o I think in todays transfer climate, Crouch (whose goalscoring record is impressive) should be going for say 12mil and Barry for 15mil at most.

EDIT: Ah right its already been mentioned on this page. :)

You can't compare like for like when one player is the first name on the team sheet when fit while the other barely gets a kick, when one is forcing a regular starting role for England while the other looks to be used even more sparingly under Capello than previously.

I agree that £20m for Barry seems like a lot at the moment but you're a) paying for potential as he really seems to be hitting his peak and B) persuading a club that doesn't want to sell to part with their best (and best-loved) player.

I knew someone would comment on like for like. I think you can say that both clubs are over valuing them though. Remember Crouch is a player that has scored plenty of goals both for Liverpool and England. He may be on the bench but this is a top 4 side bench not, no disrespect, Villa's bench. Also, at 27 years old you aren't buying for 'potential'. Barry is what he is and he will only improve a little in the next few years. I think he is worth buying, just not for 20mil....or 18....15 at most.

Crouch is worth double figures at least. He will score goals for any side he goes to.

If this debate was happening in the pub, you'd be sitting there with your fingers in your ears, eyes shut, going 'BLAHBLAHBLAH' right now.

Having read what Commander Jameson just said then yeah 9mil would be good money for him if he has just one year left on his contract. Hopefully Nemeth will be pushed into the first team if he leaves. I think he's done well for us though and its a shame.

So PinkMoon, i don't get what you are talking about? I think Barry is worth 15mil most. I've said I reckon Crouch is worth more than 9mil (but see above). This is considering today's ridiculous British market. So, whats the problem, you think Barry is worth more no doubt????

I was under the impression that you were choosing to ignore or discount the fact that Crouchio only has a year left on his contract - I thought it was pretty common knowledge - but I guess you just missed that fact. I think we're in agreement now; £9m would be very good money for him, given the circumstances. I happen to think £9m would be good money for him full stop, but that's not really an issue.

As for Barry, I've said before that I'd have been happy with £15m for him a few weeks back, but if the buyer is keen enough (and in a near-enough ballpark to be considered one of Villa's rivals as I think Liverpool are or will be soon), then a twisted kind of logic dictates that the price should be higher. Furthermore, Villa don't want to sell and don't need the money. Given all this, conventional valuation tends to fly out the window.

Aye but he's an ex-manc, is doing great in Madrid and although he's getting on a bit now he wouldn't want to warm the bench or play second fiddle to Torres.

Crespo is available on a free, I think he'd be worth a look if we're looking at strikers. Which reminds me:

Liverpool have signed Nikola Saric from Herfolge on a three year deal. Saric now only needs to pass his medical. European clubs such as Barcelona and Tottenham have queued outside the door of Herfolge manager Per Rud, but in the end it was Liverpool who won his signature. According to Dagbladet Køge the fee is rumored somewhere between 300k – 500k, Saric only needs to pass his medical before he can sign the contract on Tuesday.

- This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, I’ll train with the big names now and will get time to develop on their reserve team. I am very happy with this development mostly because this has been a very tough season for me. I feel the time is right and that I am mature enough for new challenges. We have been waiting for the right club and when Liverpool came it was only a question of where to sign. I will miss my friends and the club, but I have set my self some big targets and they demand that I take on challenges like these, Nikola Saric tells Dagbladet Herfølge.

Saric was handpicked by Rafa which is shown by the fact that Benitez him self led the negotiations.

- This is Rafa he said, I almost thought it was a joke manager Per Rud says to the newspaper. Saric will sign a three-year deal on Tuesday pending a medical.

If we were to buy Moutinho what would be the point in selling Xabi? I think Barry has been targeted because he can play ahead of Masch and offer more of an attacking threat in the Premier League, as well as being versatile enough to play wide in a 4-4-2 or at fullback if required.
