Also I'm a bit out of touch with the youth setup. I hear good things about Nemeth but are there any more promising youngsters? We've had quite a few nearly men recently and I think it would be good for morale to get another youth team player through.

Pacheco and Bruna are two names to watch out for potentially. Ecclestone scores for fun for the U18's. I quite like Jay Spearing but I doubt he'll make it with us.

I am!

...I'm not sure that means I can't rate Paul Tomkins' commentary or Clichy's left back skills?

Ohhh I think it does

So who'd have thought, just over a year ago, that we'd be fucked fund-wise, having to sell good players to buy thanks to the "custodians" bestowed upon our club by the deplorable Moores & Parry?

Fucking hell. Rafa will have done a brilliant job to get us ahead of Arsenal again next season - the others are out of reach until the club itself is sorted out.

The man's a breath of fresh air.

I wouldn't worry about Dossena's scoring record if I were you. The finest left back in th world, Gael Clichy, doesnt get too many either.

That is blatant lie, Lahm is by far the best left back in the world.

I refuse to believe this Alonso stuff til it happens, mainly cos i'd just hate to see him leave :)

Though I would like him to stay, it's not so much that I think's he's completely irreplaceable - for all of his sporadic brilliance, he does struggle with the physical side of the Premiership & I believe Barry would offer more consistency on the domestic front - it's that by all accounts it appears that Rafa HAS to sell good in order to buy players who wouldn't exactly break the bank of other clubs. It's an added layer of strain and work that just doesn't factor into the equation for Man Utd & Chelsea, who can lavish ridiculous amounts on whoever they desire.

What's Gerrard gonna do, he's not getting any younger.

I would be shocked if he left, I thought he wanted to win the Premiership with you guys, where would he move to Barca or Real Madrid. As I could not see him playing for another Premiership team :)

I really can't see him going anywhere unless the boardroom problems escalate and the club goes backwards. He only recently said he sees himself finishing his career here so there's no reason to speculate.

Judging by who Rafa is being linked with, looks like we'll be keeping the same formation next season, with 2 attacking full backs bombing forward, and the 2 holding midfielders protecting the back line. With Gerrard's new position we've, in effect, got 2 top strikers, scoring more than 50 goals between them, which means we'll no doubt bring in just one player to replace (in terms of 1st team position) Crouch/Voronin/Kewell/Pennant etc:

Reina

Degan Skrtel Agger Dossena

Mascherano Barry

Babel Gerrard New winger/striker

Torres

Subs:

New keeper, Carra, Arbeloa, Lucas, Kuyt, Benayoun, New younger winger/striker

And it's a formation that can easily change to 4-4-2 during the game:

Reina

Degan Skrtel Agger Dossena

Babel Mascherano Gerrard Barry

Torres New winger/striker

So, just 5 of those players still to be signed then... :)

EDIT: Of course that new winger/striker has to be next seasons Torres - an absolute quality player - one with pace who can cross the ball and score goals from both positions. I'm sure there's a few of them around :(

If that's a first choice team then Skrtel should be in it.

Hmm - yeah you're right. It's just hard dropping Carra, he still gets us out of trouble so many times. Plus I like writing 'Carra Agger' :)

What happened to Agger anyway, he get injured or what?

Yeah, got injured early on and was out for the whole season - we really missed him, and things only improved when we brought Skrtel in. Hopefully he'll come back ok, he was training at the end of the season.

If you believe the internet he's a pisshead and a cokehead. Looking at Agger and Skrtel I would suggest that the big Dane is spending a lot of time tattooing them both.

We didn't win any trophies this season but we did manage to pick up something pretty much every club in the world would take if given the chance; Fernando Torres.

Best ever debut season.

He scored some amazing goals this season and I'm interested to know which of his goals are your personal favourites. I'm aware of just how difficult it would be to pick one so I'm asking for a top three.

I'll get the ball rolling with my choices:

0712121me3.jpg

Marseille Vs. Liverpool (UCL):

The picture tells the story perfectly. Just sublime skill that left the entire Marseille defence at a stand still.

Liverpool Vs. Arsenal (UCL):

Champions League Quarter-final against one of the best teams left in the competition, he receives the ball with his back to goal, manages to turn and smash it into the top corner in one motion. It was beautiful and unique, yet at the same time, quite typical of him in that he has consistently produced goals of its quality in big games, against the best teams.

Liverpool Vs. Chelsea (League):

His first league goal went some way to silencing the doubters and must surely have provided him with the confidence required to go on and finish the season as a record breaker. It was also the first of many beautiful goals to come; calmly slotting past Cech after a quick change of pace left Ben Haim flat footed.

For me it's two you've chosen

Liverpool Vs Marseille

Liverpool Vs Chelsea

and

Liverpool Vs Newcastle (around 3.30 in that video) where he sent the keeper to the floor and had an open goal at his mercy without even touching the ball. Not the best goal to look at I know but it's got something about it that makes me go "Wow" every time I watch it.

I really liked the one against Fulham at home (I think it was Fulham...), for some reason. It wasn't his best goal, but it was a game which really needed a crafty goal to unlock a very stubborn defence. I totally marked out when it went in.
