I really like Bullard.
I dunno, the impression I've got is that he's a team player. And he comes across really well in interviews and stuff, a normal guy who likes a laugh and a joke. You lot always seem really sulky, could do wonders! :D

Don't get me wrong, he's not the second coming but with a better team I think he could develop into a rather talented player. After all, being a bit greedy isn't the hardest of things to work on.

Bullard is 29 now, 30 in October. I can't see him improving much, especially as a dynamic midfielder. Barry is over 2 years younger. You'd suggest that both must be at about their peaks now. I think buying players who are 27-28 is about the limit. No point in picking up more Voronins unless they really are top, top, world class players.

That does not mean Ronaldinho who got fat and is more than questionable.

As I said earlier I feel we need to keep looking at younger, hungrier players. Even Arsenal managed to snap up Wallcott. Imagine him bedding into our team now, linking up with Torres down the right with their respective speeds!

Holy crap, Bullard is old! Anyways, if you have the chance to get Nasri, then take it, he puts most of the so-called flair players here to shame. Bullard? Seriously?

I was trying to be nice. I wouldn't touch the guy with a stick, regardless of age :D

I think Liverpool need to be aiming higher than Bullard. I don't rate him.

As for Bentley, I think the kid is pure quality, and secretly I reckon Wenger is gutted he let him go. I would love to see Bentley at Liverpool with that class of player around him, he could be really special. I see what you're saying about the price, but I'm pretty sure Liverpool could get him for a lot less than 15, I reckon maybe even 10million.

Yes Nasri is a cheaper option and I know money's apparently tight, but I'd try to get both. Bentley is a bit more of a guarantee he is strong and competitive to go along with his skill.

I'll be crying on you're behalf if you get Downing, he's shit!

Nasri will cost at least £18m, that's probably a conservative estimate. If it came down to a choice between him and Bentley there'd be no choice to make. He is just much, much more talented.

Nice to hear Disciple's favourite player ever, Danny Murphy, giving weight to the idea that one day Carra could be a great manager. I'd hope he could do the business. Oh, and his mum's said to my mum she and some friends can have a free meal at Jamie's Sport Café. Is it any Kop?

My favourite ever player is, of course, John Barnes. :(

Murphy though...he's better than that Bullard any day of the week :(

Athletico claimed we paid £26mil for Torres, Rafa says it was £20mil

Yeah, I was going by what Rafa says we paid.

Liverpool's best 11 can more than compete with Man U and Chelsea's.

Thing is, this season has shown we can't. We've still not beaten either of them in the league under Benitez. We came very close against Chelsea, but we're still missing something. Pretty much the wide areas :( I really hope that gets sorted this summer. Which is why I'm still a tad confused about Barry. I can see positives in signing him, but he's not really what I'd call a priority signing.

We beat Chelsea 2-0 at Anfield last season. And we've been competitive against them in the league head to heads for a long time now. It's just the Mancs and this mental barrier/lack of quality in wide positions.

It is more mental I think, fair enough you could do with someone on the right, but Babel is Quality, and before him so was Gonzalez. Pennant is a good player as well, guarantees good crosses. Giggs is still good, but pushing on and Nani is still learning. The differences are really not that different! who have Chelsea got wide!!?? Malouda? I'd rather have Babel, and Shaun W-P? I'd rather have Pennant!

They've also got Joe Cole, the bastards.

I was thinking more about Babel's lack of consistency, Kuyt's lack of flair, and our fullbacks. If Aurelio could stay fit and Insua can step up when needed that should be one problem sorted. Babel will hopefully push on this year, I really can't wait for him to settle and mature. He's going to be amazing when he does. I would like someone of real quality that can play left and right behind Torres to be added to the squad. They'd ideally be taking over set-pieces, too.

It looks like we've signed Degen. Balague reckons we have signed two fullbacks so presumably a left back, maybe Dossena. We really do have to improve our wide players if we're to stand any chance of catching up. Perhaps Barry will be given a role out wide...

Width, in itself, isn't the important factor. It is people pushing forward quickly from the full-back positions and midfielders to support the striker that is important. We just don't do it fast enough or at all; certainly not as much as the other top three teams. You see Evra, Clichy, A Cole all bombing forward, overlapping their midfielder and getting quality deliveries into the box where there are 3-4 of their players ready to receive the ball.

Look how often we get the ball and there is only one person in the box. Until we can shake off this defensive mentality, where we seem to be too scared to pushing on, I fear we won't be able to compete where we should be.

I can't see Aurelio being a long-term solution simply because of his injury-proneness. Likewise, Arbeloa is decent as cover, but not as good as we need. I don't know if Degen nor Dossena can fill these role. I heard nothing good about Degen at all. :(

It seems to me that Benitez is signing someone on the cheap (no transfer fee) who is "solid", right?

Finnan was certainly that for us in recent times, his age and fitness have caught up with him it seems? The Swiss may just be another stop gap/squad player as noted.

We've all done this in Champ Man I'm sure :(

I agree completely. Which is why I've said our focus should be on attacking fullbacks and only one proper attacking player. For this system to work you need to have overlapping fullbacks so that the '3' behind Tores can hit the box and support him. From what I've seen of Degen he has an engine although he didn't stand out in the games I watched him in. Dossena is actually very good. He's got real quality on the balland he loves to get forward.

Dossena from what I've seen is class.

I really think Insua is going to take the leaue by storm this year, if Rafa lets him.

It's only been this season that Liverpool have had trouble at left-back, because Riise has been quality up until now. If they've got Dossena then Left back will be sorted, with Insua deputising. Aurelio is as good as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Man U's current right backs if not better if he stays fit.

A wide right player to get in and support Torres should be the priority. If you get Barry and keep Alonso, then Barry coming in off the right, Babel coming in off the left and Gerrard playing behind Torres looks pretty good to me! Plus you're siging a player who can play equally well in a number of positions, plus he hits a good free kick. Also i wouldn't be surprised to see the kid Dogsout told me about making a few appearances this season, he is pure class, what's his name again?

You mean Arbeloa, yeah? He's good and I think he could surprise a few people this season but he's not as good as Sagna or Bosingwa which is what we have to compete with unfortunately.

Who be this? :(

I'm serious, which position?

[edit] Are you talking about Buonanotte? That signing hasn't gone through yet.

Hahaha yeah Arbeloa, I always get them mixed up. He is easily on a par with Sagna if not better! and Bosingwa is good, but we'll have to wait and see if he can hack the premiership, you know that a lot of these Portuguese don't like to have to use a bit of strength, plus he'll need a lot of stamina to go from the Pork and Cheese league to the Premiership playing in that role.

the Argie kid we were watching videos of on youtube!?

Yeah, Buonanotte.

I like Arbeloa, I really do. Sagna's been the best right back in the league this year, though. Up until he got a few injuries he was brilliant but it took him a while to get back into his stride. Maybe he'll push on this season and Degen is the one being brought in as cover. That sounds like the likeliest scenario to me.

I doubt it. They'd be mental to have put a buyout clause into his contract, it's not common practice in France and if he really can be got for as little as £13.5m I think he'd be being linked with pretty much every big club in Europe. Diouf said he wouldn't consider selling him for less than £20m back in January so I'd be surprised if he really is available for so little.
