It's fair enough, so long as you make an attempt to use the forum properly. If you're quoting a website/person then use the quotation buttons. Try and use punctuation, paragraphs...you know? I'm a cunt, but I'm just trying to help in my extremely unhelpful way.

Sweet

This reminds me, there's a half life / counter strike video which goes along the lines of "The internet and you" can anyone remember that and where you can find it?

ed: Oh, I think it was a steam forum thing.

Dont worry you got me believing it is possible we might get Aguero in the summer which is making me happy even if the rumours are from a made up site.

This pretty much sums up how things are going so far:

The Liverpool manager needs something to break the current impasse in his club's transfer dealings. The Barry deal with Aston Villa is currently going nowhere; Crouch's future is unresolved and there is still the distinct possibility that Dubai International Capital will gain control of the club at some point this summer. Against that backdrop there will have to be some compromise over the next few weeks if Benitez is to get the ball rolling on his plans for this summer.

At this rate there's going to be a relatively small amount of money to spend, a pittance compared to what Chelsea & Man Utd will undoubtedly lavish on their squads. Unless something drastic happens, Rafa cannot be expected to take us any higher than 3rd next season - At the present time, I'd say a decent run in Europe & proving that Arsenal finishing above us was a temporary matter should be our main aims for 08-09.

And considering we need improving just to get on their level of this year, we're going to fall even further behind, because they will be spending a load again this summer. I mean Chelsea have just spent £17million on a right back. That's almost what we paid for Torres!

Liverpool's best 11 can more than compete with Man U and Chelsea's. They need that cast iron belief, as well as a better 'B-Team' to confidently feild against the so called 'smaller clubs', that's what will win them the league.

Athletico claimed we paid £26mil for Torres, Rafa says it was £20mil

Nope. The Garcia deal was separate to the Torres one. We paid £20m upfront and must pay a subsequent £200,000 for every 15 goals he scores.

So every time Torres scrores £15 goals they get £200,000? Forever? Wow! Is that League goals or all competitions?

Don't play him in the league cup please...

Anyway I feel the real problem we've got is that Benitez hadn't really been brining in enough good young players, or experienced pros, that really would make a difference. That's very important (look at Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson, Hargreaves, Vidic).

I feel this is changing a bit now.

Now Skrytl looks very promising, Agger we know is class, Torres is one of the best strikers on the planet, Masch is pretty immense. I think a lot of Arebelo and Aurellio too. With Gerrard as our seasoned pro, experience elsewhere in Carragher, plus Alonso is a good player once he gets back into the swing of things - we've got a very good core now for the future.

Dependant on the summer signings we should, with this squad, challenge next year. Certainly a title within 2 years should not be outside our grasp. These players to bed down properly and push on.

So I think things are promising, it's just a matter of keeping them all fit, keeping them all happy - and as you say

Come on guys! Time for some positivity. How about this for a line up?!

Reina

Arbeloa, Skrtyl, Agger, Aurellio

Masch

Bently, Gerrard, Barry, (new lw)

Torres

So we're missing a left mid (oh for Ashley Young), and 2 players we've not got yet...but that's a pretty good side (we could replace the full backs too). You'd feel we might lack some pace in midfield except for Gerrard, but we only seem to play with real pace through torres anyway right?

Then I noticed

"So far he has tied up the signing of the Swiss right-back Philipp Degen, 25, who will sign a four-year deal when he becomes a free agent later this month. The Borussia Dortmund player has been a long-term target for Benitez and he tried to sign him when he was Valencia manager just before he left for Liverpool in 2004."

So a new RB then...

I keep seeing us being linked with Stuart Downing if we don't get Barry, I hope nothing comes of that, I haven't seen him play well in consequetive games for quite some time but he seems very over-rated by the media. I don't think he's a top four player at all, and because he's english, his price is over-inflated further.

The links with Downing, with 12 million(!) being bandied about as well are surely ludicrous. If you buy him at all, and for that kind of money, then you deserve all the mediocrity that stems from it.

I don't know, I think the guy could flourish in a good team, he's certainly got ability.

All competitions. We've already had to pay £400,000. I hope we end up paying millions. :D

He's been pretty uninspiring every time I've seen him play. Solid and dependable but nothing eye catching. We've been linked with Dossena at left back recently. I've seen a lot more of him and he's very good. He's got a lot of ability going forward although he's never come across as brilliant defensively.

I'd love to see bentley at the club. I'd be spening the money on him before I went to any other position.

A very good player but I'm sure we could find better outside the league for what he'd cost. If we could get him for £12m or less then maybe but the media are chucking about potential fees in the region of £15m. I'm not sure I fancy that. Particularly when Mancini is going to be leaving for half that or less. Then you've got Jefferson Farfan, Rodrigo Palacio and Goran Pandev that will be a tad more expensive but cheaper than Bentley. Nasri will probably go for only a few million more than that figure, too. Personally, I'd shop around but don't get me wrong, I think he's a very talented player, with Premiership experience. He can also hit a free-kick, something we have to address this summer. I think he could do well at Liverpool and I'd like to see him signed, just not for £15m. However, if we could get them to take Pennant...

I don't know, I think the guy could flourish in a good team, he's certainly got ability.

I agree. But if money is as tight as we're led to believe and the mooted fee of £12m is correct then I'd rather give him a miss.

I really like Bullard.

Don't say that in here! I was shitting myself for ages that the English player Balague was speaking about was going to turn out to be Bullard. Thankfully it was Gareth Barry. I've not seen that much of him (highlights each week and the odd full game this season) but from what I have seen he seems like a less talented but just as greedy version of Lampard. Of course it's possible that I haven't seen enough of him and have got it wrong but from what I've seen I don't think he'd fit in.

I dunno, the impression I've got is that he's a team player. And he comes across really well in interviews and stuff, a normal guy who likes a laugh and a joke. You lot always seem really sulky, could do wonders! :D

Don't get me wrong, he's not the second coming but with a better team I think he could develop into a rather talented player. After all, being a bit greedy isn't the hardest of things to work on.

Gareth Barry's terrific.

I think Liverpool need to be aiming higher than Bullard. I don't rate him.

As for Bentley, I think the kid is pure quality, and secretly I reckon Wenger is gutted he let him go. I would love to see Bentley at Liverpool with that class of player around him, he could be really special. I see what you're saying about the price, but I'm pretty sure Liverpool could get him for a lot less than 15, I reckon maybe even 10million.

Yes Nasri is a cheaper option and I know money's apparently tight, but I'd try to get both. Bentley is a bit more of a guarantee he is strong and competitive to go along with his skill.

I'll be crying on you're behalf if you get Downing, he's shit!
