I'm still gonna be sad seeing Crouch go. In my eyes, there's been a few games where he should've started but didn't even get used as a substitute and we failed as a result. I don't care if he 'doesn't fit the system' - using only one system stopped Arsenal from conquering, we have to be flexible. Yeah, I'm advocating a form of rotation policy, I just thought Rafa was a bit overboard earlier on in the season and didn't do it correctly.

I heard on the radio that Liverpool have stuck in a £10m bid for Barry? Well I think I did...

Yep, it's in todays Liverpool Echo. Alonso has also told Setanta he's going nowhere. A team full of central midfielders and centerbacks for next season confirmed!

Carragher is going to be converted into a Target man, with Gerrard playing off him.

Torres, with his pace, will be a winger.

I am surprised about this Barry situation too. It has been a long while since he was a left back so surely the idea isnt to play him there. I guess he could play LM, but he is hardly a winger.

It is strange. I dont see where he fits into our new 4-2-3-1 formation.

Riise, Kewell and Voronin will probably be leaving at the end of the season. Maybe Crouch and Finnan aswell. Im still not convinced with Kuyt, although Benitez plays him over Crouch to fit into the formation. We will need a left back, right back, left midfielder and a striker.

I really hope Crouch stays but this will only happen if Benitez plays 4-4-2 or 3-5-2.

I would like to see Benitez give Insua a go if they cant get a top quality left back.

Possible signings for me -

Right back = Rafinha

Left back = Lahm (someone mentioned him in the thread a while back, quite a good attacking player)

Left mid = Robben (Probably impossible, but we need someone with a similar attacking play without the injuries)

Striker = Henry :lol:

Its going to be really interesting what Benitez does in the transfer window. Does anyone think we will see another big money star signing like Torres?

Do we not need another Torres? Cos at the moment we are not competing in the Prem. We need to win the Prem!

I would have been happy with Van Nistlerooy from the mancs to partner Torres, but they would have never sold him to us. Maybe Benitez will go back in for Heinze from Madrid?

I don't really understand this comment considering Nistelrooy left Man Utd a year before we got Torres?

I mean it would have been good if we had got Nistlerooy when he left. Then we signed Torres (this season) aswell they would score plenty of goals between them.

Emiliano Insua makes his first start of the season as the Reds look to mark the final home match with a win against Manchester City.

Steve Finnan comes in for Alvaro Arbeloa at right-back while Fernando Torres has been passed fit to lead the line on an afternoon that will see the Reds play in their brand new kit for the first time.

The Liverpool team in full: Reina, Finnan, Insua, Carragher, Hyypia, Lucas, Mascherano, Babel, Kuyt, Gerrard, Torres. Subs: Itandje, Voronin, Benayoun, Alonso, Skrtel.

Be interesting to see how Insua plays in a full strength side.

The reserves will be presented with their league trophy at half time too, though I doubt it'll be shown on TV. Wonder if Insua will join them :)

Jesus. I ask a simple question and all I get is hostility. Well I suppose that answers my question anyway.

I'm sure we'll give our own reactions when we want to, not when some guy who doesn't even support Liverpool demands opinions.

What do you expect when you support ManU and always come here to post? Seriously think about it. Fair enough you're not going out your way to troll, but it's curious why you come here constantly

As i've said before, he's the underground, subtle troll. Coming in and saying things like "Enjoyable game " when we've lost.

I try the same (in response) in the Man U thread and get called a troll...funny that :P

Fair enough question, tbb.

It's been pretty disappointing; not being closer in the league, not getting to the CL final. Obviously, this is from our viewpoint. For other teams, this may be considered a great season. The off-field shenanigans (especially around Nov/Dec) caused massive disruption and was very destabilising.

Whilst we have improved, the problem is the ManU and Chelsea have improved further (dropping £50m+ on Hargeaves, Nani, Anderson, etc. is something we just can't match). A key injury to Agger, ruling him out of the season from the first international weekend was a massive drawback as we could not play a high defensive line, so we could play our pressing game. Only when Skrtl arrived, could we start to play like that again (as shown by our improved form since then).

Our old weaknesses still remain (full backs reluctant to go forward and support the attack, an inability to kill off teams, our mentality against ManU) and need to be addressed before next season.

On the flip side, Torres's impact on the league has been the highlight of the season for me. He could've taken a long time to adjust to the physicality of the league, but he took to it from day 1.

I want the ownership of the club to be resolved ASAP and a couple of key transfers made. A solid start to the season with no key injuries is vital to keep up with ManU and Chelsea.

We've made some progress so no complaints from me.

Progress perhaps squad wise...perhaps? But what else.

We've got a proven goalscorer now. Crouch seems set to go - he wasn't even in the squad today. For the last home game of the season?

We've got a great player in Masch, Skrtyl seems ace...but who? Babs is promising and I like him but the others?

Last season we were 4th and got to the UCL final. This year we're 4th and didn't reach the final.

I don't really call that progress. Arsenal, on their shoestring, aren't doing badly. They didn't expect to do so well this season and at one point they could have won the title - had they not had a wobble and Gallas gone off and cried like a girl.

Is it really progress?

It's progress in that we are closer to playing the way Rafa wants us to play (the high pressing game; short, quick passes; midfielders pushing up to support the striker). But we are not there yet and combined with ManU's and Chelsea's progress, we are no closer to being able to win the league.

The spine of the team is good, with Reina, Agger, Skrtl, Mascherano, Gerrard, Torres being key players. Babel has potential, but hasn't come good just yet. Kuyt is not a right-winger (despite his hard work). Alonso has been disappointing for the past two seasons now. Carra and Finnan were poor this season too.

The full back and winger positions are up-for-grabs. We need genuinely attacking full-backs to overlap and support the midfielders. Aurelio would be good at this, but he is too injury-prone to be considered a credible player in that position.

Finnan is getting on now. He was great last season but I think he's been in and out of the team and needs to accept a bit-part role or move on.

Carra has been going mental I'm sure.

We need to do something in the league next year, cos Gerrard aint getting any younger.

At last. Two people with a brain that can actually see it's a genuine question.

I wasn't disputing it being a genuine question, just picking up on it coming from a fan of our biggest rival and that there is one game left in the season

I also post in the Arsenal, Chelsea, Football thread. Oh yeah, I also post in shit loads of other threads too. Savvy?

But of course I rarely go into those threads, reserving them for the use of their own fans so I don't notice such things. I do however notice Man U fans coming in here. It's a natural and logical thing to pick up on and inquire about

Kuyt is not a right-winger (despite his hard work).

Kuyt plays better for a non winger then Riise ever did as one. Granted Riise is also a defender, but he's the same in both roles. Kuyt is the best winger we've had in quite some time, and still gets into striker positions (goals or not)
