I thought Pennant was man of the match today. Last one he'll probably ever get, but yeah, lad did well. Good goal, too.

You know I was just saying only last night:

"If only we'd got Ashley Young instead of Pennant"

Meh. £8m seems like a steal now. Thing is - would he have got a proper run in the side? He can play left, right, or support striker. Capello was watching him today, surely he's going to get more chances for England.

Why do people have this thing against Pennant? He does not deserve the criticism. Riise sure, he's lost it completely this season.

Would you play Pennant or Young?

His end product is not good enough, simple as that.

What product is that, then? If it's 'decent crosses', he's okay in that field. Intelligence is where he severely lacks but I'm sure other team members can balance out the average number of brain cells in the team.

His crosses are awful. Endless 'floaty' crosses that benefit no one.

Did you watch yesterday's game? I didn't get that impression at all.

He was MOM and had a good game, which included a goal. That's exceptionally rare for him.

You can't say that of someone like Ronaldo. Why not compare them? ;)

Oh yeah, I know, but if you're only playing 1 game in every 10 you may as well play to your abilities. Granted, he wasn't great against Arsenal, but he wasn't exactly put into the best team, was he? I think he'd be a useful squad player myself, and considering the lack of chances granted to him since coming back from his injury he hasn't done too badly. Still a buffoon, though.

I think it's more likely to be a player nearing the end of his contract, meaning they can leave for a nominal fee, rather than a bosman. I say this simply because there don't seem to be many good players available on a bosman which fit the hints.

Unless it's another Voronin - I seem to remember he was 'for the first team' too.

But then again Skrtel came from (relatively) no where, so Rafa may have unearthed a bargain.

Oh, and reserve update: won 3-1 against Wigan tonight in our last league game of the season. Spearing, Simon and Brouwer (again!) getting the goals. The lads will be presented with the League trophy at half time in the City game.

We're also in the final of the Liverpool Senior Cup and the semi final of the Lancashire County Cup, as well as the Reserve League Play-Off against the Southern champions. Add the Dallas Cup to that little lot, and this could be an excellent season for them!

So how's the mood ahead of tomorrow night, guys? I'm personally bricking it ahead of wednesday's match. It's gonna have to be a drinking night as I don't think I'll be able to handle the nerves sober. Dogsout nearly had a heart attack in the previous round so I can't imagine the state of him tomorrow. Aren't european semi-finals great? ;)

I think it's gonna be pretty tough, I'm hoping for a clean sheet and at least 1 goal. That would set us up nicely for the second leg. The clean sheet is definitely the most important thing though.

I'm more worried about facing Utd in the final ;)

I'm surprisingly calm about this one. Which is starting to worry me. I'm not sure I like the confidence being displayed by most Reds at the moment or all of this shite with the board that has reared its ugly head again. I don't know, hopefully I'll wake up tomorrow in the state you saw me in before the Arsenal game. ;)

Jesus, don't jinx it! ;)

Oh I'm not thinking it's a forgone conclusion we'll beat Chelsea at all, far from it. But I really don't think I could cope if it was a Liverpool vs Utd final! Was having enough of a heart attack at the Arsenal match!

I haven't been nervous till I stepped into this thread. Now I'm getting chills down my spine......although that might be cause the heating has just gone off! :(

No way am I as nervous as the Arsenal match though. They were the team I feared playing most out of the last 8 so I'm a little calmer today. However, this is the 19th time we've played Chelsea in 4 years, we've won all the big games so can we realistically do it again?! The one thing I worry about with Chelsea is they are diving cheating scum bags and the european refs seem to go for that more often than not.

I'm thinking 2-1 tonight. I don't want them to but I reckon they will score against us. It'll mean a bloody hard game at Stamford Bridge as Rafa's Liverpool teams have never scored there! :o

I also reckon we will stay with the usual 4-3-3 tonight with Babel, Torres and Kuyt leading the front and Mascherano and Alonso sitting deep. I do think Hyypia should play again as he is having a brilliant season.

I haven't heard anything bad about him...I thought he was taken off at half-time the other day as a precaution myself.

Ah ok, if that's the case then good news. He's been immense for us recently and his UCL experience is invaluable.

I'm going to listen to Rafa. "Now we are in a good moment, so we must try to enjoy this moment." What with all the turmoil, who knows if we'll be back in another UCL semi-final any time soon? With Mourinho gone, and some of my dislike for Chelsea gone with him, maybe a defeat would only be as painful as the last final against Milan, and I can console myself again with the thought that sooner or later the other side would get some luck. So, I'm going to try to approach this game without fear. We've got a good team. We've got a shot at a little more glory. I'm going to try and just enjoy it, and not just cower behind a little fortress of cushions like I usually do. At least until extra time in the second leg.

I've been having similar thoughts. I've no doubt that if Rafa ends up leaving us because of what's going on with the owners, we'll realise just how fortunate we've been to see our team playing in games of this magnitude so regularly.
