No he's quicker, stronger, not a diving cock and much more a team player than Robben ever will be.

But he didn't need a year to get used to the Premiership despite being even younger than Babel, was my point.

This whole getting used to the Premiership thing, could be a myth, you know?

I like Babs.

He's crap in PES2008 on the PS2 though. I've had him miss some amazing chances. I bought in Mutu instead.

You needed to know that.

And I didn't say Babel was a terrible player, he's obvioulsy a good player when the mood takes him, he just looks mentally not very strong. Somebody said he was like this before we bought him, his head'd go down in games. It's the end of his first season and going on the last few games he still blows hot and cold, what's going to change next year?

Hopefully he'll come on. Everyone has ups and downs.

Even...shhhhhhh...(gerrard)

Well, hopefully.

So, now that unpleasantness is out of the way lets fully tackle chewylegs' other point.

It's Gilette and Parry fucking this up and causing trouble, isn't it.

Hicks and Rafa seem to be getting on well. Rafa wants Parry out, Hicks wants Parry out, we want Parry out. So how exactly am I being dumb in saying Hicks can't do anything right?

Its the end of the season, we are still trying to make sure we get a 4th place spot and we have two massive games coming up against Chelsea which means we could get into Champions League final again. Tell me what is the point in suddenly deciding to sack Parry and also mention that two other members of the board were in a meeting with Klinsmann months and months ago? The only point is for Hicks to strengthen his position and to undermind Gillett. Waiting to the end of the season would be a better bet for the whole club. Or at least not air their 'drity laundry' in public. Its a disgrace and if you notice the problems appear to be coming from Hicks.

As for your other point. I still don't get you. Some players are able to be mature and be good enough to play at the age of 18 (Owen, Rooney etc) and others don't develop until 'later' in life as in Babel (and when i say later he's hardly a pensioner!!). The bloke is 21 (I thought 20), he has played brilliant for us at times and poorly at others, he is starting life in a new country. he has effected games immensely at times as well. How you can possibly question his mental state is beyond me. He has 6/7 years till he gets to his supposed 'peak' and you think we should worry whether he is good enough now? Do you really believe because he blows hot and cold now he won't become more consistent in the next few years? I personally think you will see a big improvement in Babel next season and he will become one of our most effective players. Who gives a fuck about Robben, he was brilliant for the first season and a half at Chelsea and then a load of shit afterwards.

But Rafa wants Parry out and a new guy in place to handle summer transfers. They have to do that now. And the problems aren't really coming from Hicks. If Parry HAD resigned instead of whipping this into a big deal then it would have been nothing but Hicks acting the best interest of the club/Rafa. So, Hicks is damned if he does and damnded if he doesn't. This is Parry we're talking about, not like somebody we all wanted to stay.

You're saying he's going to develop. How can you know this? You don't. So easy up on the dumb dumb talk, eh? You hope he develops as we all do. But he does seem fragile in his interviews and on the pitch. He was pretty rubbish yesterday. He doesn't seem like a very confident young man, you know?

The Heskey syndrome?

Rafa noted that Babel was influenced the the crowd, which i'm sure a lot of players are, but to me he doesn't seem to lack confidence on the pitch. As has been mentioned I don't think that left wing/midfield is his position but playing there gives a forward a hell of a lot more to his game and was part of the reason Henry was/is so succesful. How many times did you see Thierry drift out to the left flank and cause havok to opposition defenders? I see Babel as a forward, not a striker, and if he keeps adding to his game then he'll be a special player.

Regarding Robben again, he was a hell of a player at 18, but he's hardy come on leaps and bounds since then has he? I think he's a great player, but he peaked early.

It wasn't Parry whipping this up into a big deal though. Hick's is playing it to his advantage and has done since he took over.

Ok, sorry about saying you were 'dumb'. Still though you seem an extremely pessimistic person. You very rarely come in here stating anything other than pessimism. Why? Why suddenly question Babel. He's been here 5 minutes and done a hell of a lot more than Voronin, Benayoun and Lucas have in that time. If you think he lacks confidence how the hell did he score that goal against Arsenal in the dying moments of the match to ensure we went through in the Champions League? Many players would have bottled that. So what he doesn't look confident in front of a camera, he may well be camera shy. How many years was it before Giggs was 'confident' enough to stand in front of a camera? I don't know he is going to develop but i would put money on it. People didn't know Gerrard would develop (he had played under 100 games around about the same age of Babel) but he did and look at him now.

He seems very highly rated in Holland too as he keeps playing in their national team (ahead of Kuyt?) despite being less of a regular for us.

I have no idea how well he has performed for them in a forward role, does anyone else?

It's not his face it's his body language and the fact he doesn't take defenders on as much as he should. I'm not saying he's a bottler or anything, he just seems to lack va-va-voom.

I think Benayoun has done more this year. Giggs was a superstar from about the age of 16 wasn't he? I'm just saying I'm not sure about this year to settle. I can think of Bergkamp but I can't think of too many others that this applies to, you know? Most of the top players look top straight away and again, 21 isn't that young, he's no baby. Sissoko was only 22 or 23 when we wrote him off.

We all said Kuyt would find his feet after his promising first year but he didn't (although he's now playing well in a different role).

But I'm not just being pessamistic I just don't share you optimism on this particular player.

I actually think we should buy Henry.

Actually I've just realised what you meant with the cameras. I didn't mean he's not confident getting interviewed on telly! I meant there was written interview where he was going on about how hard it is to play so many games and how he's not used to it. Just sounded pretty negative. He also said he knew nothing about Liverpool before he signed, but I didn't mind that.

Cisse, in his second season (which was really his first) and playing as a winger he did more than Babel's done and that's a stone cold fact.

You really do chat an incredible amount of bollocks. He's scored 9 goals and changed a lot of games for us. I think it's been a more than acceptable first season.

I'm still thinking Mutu. He works very well with Torres in PES2008, and scores many a headed goal?!

Hmmm.

Stop going on about PES. What the fuck has it got to do with anything?!

Oh right, so Cisse didn't do more that Babel because he played more and so it doesn't count. Idiot.

Come on, Cisse played as much as a striker and was only used as a conventional winger on a number of occasions against a few teams.

Regardless, although he was played as a winger quite a lot that season, but, I'm just saying I don't remember the calls for Cisse to be given a second series. I mean season. I'd say Cisse that season showed more that season than Babel this season. In my honest opinion.

Djibril Cisse is 4th in the french top scorers chart even after a season hampered by being hated by the fans and out of the team for the first few months as well as the fact his smashed his leg up on a couple of occassions recently. Cisse, there's a guy who doesn't let shit get him down.
