Torres is amazing. I thought Arsenal did well to keep him shackled for most of the tie, but give him a yard and he'll take a goal. What a player. We're so fortunate to have him: he's the sort of player I normally expect to be playing for other teams, I can't quite believe he's ours.

Gerrard was surprisingly nerveless for the penalty. I expected him to stuff it up.

Blimey! How stressful was that?

I was very disappointed at how poor we were at keeping the ball in the first half. Arsenal were much better from kick-off; much more than their tired performance at the weekend would have suggested. I'm not sure the change in formation helped us to begin with either.

I thought we improved significantly when Flamini went off. There seemed to be more time for Alonso and Mascherano to control the midfield.

I was so gutted when Adebayor got their 2nd with just a few minutes to play. I thought our luck had run out in this competition. FWIW, I thought it was a penalty both live and in replays afterwards. The speed of Babel did seem to spook the Arsenal defenders. He does make a fantastic impact sub against a tired team.

On balance, I think the tie should have gone to penalties as there wasn't much between us (in terms of possession and chances, if not pretty passing). But we had a bit more luck and a bit more steel.

Time running out for Arsene? I was reading through the Arsenal Mania match thread and they really don't like Diaby, Eboue, Senderos, Almunia. Maybe it is time to splash some cash for them?

Eboue and Senderos just simply are not good enough. Why Wenger perserves with them must simply be down to lack of other options.

Is it ends up a Liverpool v Man Utd final, there's no way I could watch it. I'd die of nervousnessnessness

You'd watch. We'd all watch. I'd be wearing special underwear though.

I'm not sure whether it's sour grapes or not but I am amazed that some of the Arsenal fans on here are questioning the atmosphere at Anfield on nights like last night. Especially ones that didn't even go the game. Before kick-off I noticed a few posts questioning the atmosphere but put it down to them believing what they wanted to, and I think I'll have to put it down to the same thing afterwards, too. The crowd noise gets turned right down by TV companies but you could all hear how loud it was before kick-off. One of the barristers I work with from time to time called me today to tell me it was the best atmosphere he'd seen/felt/heard in a stadium anywhere in the world, and he's a Man Utd fan of 30 odd years!

I'm not sure the crowd influenced things in the way they have done in the past but they willed the team on. We were attacking in waves towards the end, just as the crowd were reaching a crescendo. The atmosphere at league games has declined somewhat but it's a completely different type of support that gets reserved for Europe. Last night's referee has said that the crowd was the loudest he'd experienced as a referee, and that it gave the officials problems communicating through the headsets. Loads of players have come out and said the atmosphere is unbelievable and unique during a Champions League game.

Wenger in particular visibly hates to lose more than any other manager I can think of (and you don't find many graceful losers in football management to start with). There was some story of an occasion back in France when they had to stop the team bus so he could be physically sick, he was so upset by a defeat.

Rllmuk Arsenal fans are a fairly decent lot, they're mostly concentrating on their own sides failings. I'm not sure we'd all be as phlegmatic if the roles were reversed: look at some of our responses to the United defeat.

I wasn't having a pop at them as fans. Some of the best posters on this site are regular posters in that thread. Every team has its share of denial merchants, especially after an emotional defeat. I'd like to think I've handled defeats in big games with some humility before now, I don't see why it is so hard for some. I mean, if the game had gone their way yesterday, I know beyond doubt that our lot would have clapped them off at the end. Same as they did for Benfica in 2006, Arsenal themselves in '89 and any other team that has come to Anfield and got the win in a one off game.

WHAT A FUCKING GAME!!!!!!

I was nervous from 7pm to the final whistle. I've never been that nervous before and I was physically shaking for a lot of it!

I have to say, Arsenal were immense in the first 25mins and it really looked like we would be in for a rough ride all night long. Their play made our players so nervous not one single player could string a pass together! :) But, we did what was needed, weathered the storm and got back into the game with that brilliant Sami header. I really think if they had managed some shots on target in that first 25 and scored another the game would have been over.

From then on the whole team was superb. I can't fault any (even if Reina is worrying me at the moment). Its nice to see that some of the key players (Gerrard and Fabregas) didn't particularly play well but there was enough talent on show to put in one of the best displays of the season. The goal from Torres was breathtaking. My bro was saying all game he only needs one chance and he was right. Benitez's tactics were spot on. Crouch played very well, disrupting Arsenal and making a general nuisance of himself. Bringing on Babel surprised me to be fair because it was a bold move when we were winning but what a move!! He was excellent and his goal was excellently taken. And yes it WAS a penalty!

I'm glad that I witness yet another amazing Anfield game and it was Liverpool who came out on top.

Roll on Chelsea, roll over Chelsea and then Barcelona in the final! :)

This has been coming for a while now. He said weeks ago that he'd be looking to bring his own people in soon, and implied that Parry would be the first to go.

Is that 'cause he said 'someone should sell their share of the club'? Looks like no other reason for Pricks bringing that up.

Gerrard, Carragher and Torres are all brought before god on his throne to prove their faith. God asks them in turn "what do you believe?"

Gerrard says "I believe that football is the food of life" God tells him to sit to his left.

Carragher says "I believe in courage and honour on the pitch" God tells him to sit to his right

Torres doesn't say anything. God leans down and looks him in the eye and says "what do you believe, my son?" Torres looks straight back at him and says "I believe you are in my seat"

I was at the game, and I can tell you that the arsenal supporters were among the worst I have ever seen. They left as soon as the penalty was given. The only word I can find for them is champagne supporters, they really are only singing when they are winning.

By the way, the atmosphere was great, but of course it has been better before.

Luka Modric admits he is flattered at claims that Liverpool have made a move to sign him.

It was reported in England that Tottenham had made moves to try and land the highly-rated midfielder - who has also attracted attention from Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona in recent months.

But the Croat media, says it is not Tottenham, but Liverpool who have made a firm offer for the 22-year-old.

Modric will almost certainly depart Dinamo Zagreb in the summer and the battle to sign him is firmly on, with Liverpool reported to be heading the queue.

Dinamo want around £18million for their prized asset, who is rated as one of the most impressive young midfielders in world football.

At just 22 - Modric is already a lynch-pin of the Croatian national side who comfortably dispatched of England in qualifying for Euro 2008.

Modric has now admitted that he is delighted that Liverpool could be interested in signing him.

"I don't wish to discuss possible transfers, but if Liverpool really want me, then this is fantastic and I am truly honoured," he told Vecernji list.

"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match against strong Arsenal"

Wooooo, this is a signing that certainly would get my seal of approval.
