Yep I think we were better than them 2nd half. We scored 3 times after all.

Yeah I think so too.

Arsenal only had 3 shots on target in the entire game so I think it is a bit harsh to say they deserved to win the tie.

It was a great fightback from Liverpool who looked almost dead and buried after the first 20-30 mins.

But it was like they beat us at football and yet we beat them at goals, you know? I'm not talking about playing fancy football per se it's just, like, surely our luck's going to run out, you know? Or Benitez really has got a magic formula.

fuckin hell what a game - after 15 minutes i honestly thought it was gonna be a complete battering , they showed us how to play , so much time on the ball and intercepting every pass. It's that sense of occasion tho with Liverpool, the big night/game that brings out the fight . So many ups and downs i really dont think i can sleep tough game , great result

No. We showed them how to play. For 90 minutes.

For 90 minutes.

*nod*

But there are, like, things Rafa couldn't have planned for. Kuyt giving away that penalty, Bentner's save, Adebeyor's miss.

What I'm basically saying is fuck this shit, my nerves don't need it nor can they take it. Wake me up after Moscow.

Well, that was one of the longer 90 minutes' of my life. ;)

Amazing drama in the RTE studio afterwards too, as Liam Brady got decidedly upset about the montage of Wenger looking frustrated on the sideline at Saturday's game with Eamon Dunphy using that as evidence that Arsenal are on the way down the pan, describing him as occasionally looking "like John Cleese in the Ministry of Silly Walks". Brady, due to his relationship with Wenger, got angry about this and said that if he knew that footage was going to be shown for that reason, he wouldn't have come to the studio. Thankfully, Graeme Souness changed the subject before it got out of hand.

Also, with the RTE coverage, Roy Houghton and Darragh Maloney were very fucking slow to say it was a penalty near the end there, as they didn't show a replay, and never said he was brought down inside the box, and then there was the shot of Gerrard placing the ball from the front, which, from our perspective, could have been a free kick, but then they showed the reverse, finally letting us know it was a penalty.

But still, :)

I thought Liverpool played the better football tonight, their attacking was much more convincing, despite Arsenal's defence at the beginning of the game being as tight as a drum, and Liverpool did far better in one-on-one confrontations for possession.

Can you imagine Avram Grant bumbling his way to a league / CL double? Can you imagine THAT?

I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing Chelsea the best in dethroning Man Utd with all of their attentions focused on said task, but for BOTH? It would certainly prove a thing or two with regards to what I've said about any remotely decent manager taking such an expensive squad to ultimate glory, but there comes a point which is just too far....

What an interesting point.

As a Chelsea fan would you prefer a Grant "double", where by SURELY he has to stay in charge (or get a massive pay-off), or a Grant no-show (Carling Cup LOL) - and thus he goes?

That would depend on who wins the CL. I can take a Man Utd league win if we win the CL. Better still, if we win the CL due to a nonsense penalty "conceded" in the dying moments of the final by Rio Ferdinand or a backtracking Ronaldo.

If a Grant double is all that stands in the way of a Man Utd sweep, then obviously he has to do it. He has step forward as Hero of the Ages.

By the way, the difference between the key penalty decisions in each leg (other than interpretation by different referees) is thus:

- Kuyt's was a sneaky, arm lock tug. He made it look tidier than it really was, particularly in real time.

- Toure was flailing around like a spastic, as if to alert the ref to his foul.

Babs (as I call him) also went down in stages, while running at full pelt...LOOK AT MY LEGS, GOING, GOING, ARGH!!!!

Look more like a pen, deff.

Clever Kuyt. Player of the season? Also scored in the UCL final last year!

Kuyt has actually been excellent over the last month. I think he's very much a confidence player....For ages his hard work was ineffectual but now it's coming good.

He's not the future, but he's proving that he can be a good player to have around.

I thought he (Kuyt) was great tonight actually. For a suppossedly neagtive team, Liverpool did play with 3 forwards tonight and they all contributed. Unfortunately though it can't all come down to Torres, we need a another player who can score 15+ a season in that Kuyt might have to make room for.

Who knows though, I can see a fuly confident Kuyt doing that - tap ins and poached goals, but they all count. Only problem is he's always playing too deep to get in the box!

He always tries his best. It sounds stupid at this level but he always looks like he's trying his best for us. He seems really annoyed when he loses the ball or mucks up a chance. I love the guy really, I can see why Benitez persists.

Oh, and fuck all those 'lucky Liverpool' cunts. Boo bloody hoo. One penalty decision was wrong, big fucking deal. Happens all the fucking time. Anyone notice how Senderos completely disappeared after his yellow card? He would've done the same if he got his 'deserved' yellow in the first leg, but he didn't and was allowed to bully Torres a bit. We might have been better if that happened, who knows! The important thing is that our play allowed us to get more goals than their play allowed them. If the likes of Hleb didn't flop over every time a challenge came in he might've had that penalty, but it didn't go for him in that instance. No luck required.

That'd be an AMAZING way to win it. Imagine the glory!

I think there's something to that. At the time, I'd have done the same as the referees. it's only on replay that I ended up doubting the two decisions.

He's shot way up my most-liked-Liverpool players list lately. You can't fault a trier, especially when he ends up doing well.

I liked this in the MBM coverage

66 min: Benitez is off his seat, waving two tubby arms at whoever happens to be looking at him on the pitch. The gist was "don't *&^% this up.

What a game, though. Football, eh?

I think I could just about stomach losing to Chelsea now Mourinho's gone, but the prospect of United in Moscow fills me with dread. Come on Barcelona!

It'll be interesting to see how having the home leg first affects things. In many ways there's an advantage to having your home leg first, what with the away goals rule counting in your favour in the crunch period of the tie, and possibly into Extra Time. But we've done so well having second legs at Anfield in the past.
