Gerrard is the worst offender in the Liverpool squad. Though he doesn't contest decisionsin nearly the same way as Rooney, Ferdinand and their snarling ilk, his weakness is that he dives too much....Torres, for instance, gets caught a lot and goes down because of his pace and acceleration, but Gerrard falls over too often for next to no reason. Okay, he's not as regular an offender as Ronaldo but he's spoken out against 'foreign' players who dive which makes it worse.

Fair play to you.

The highlighted bit is exactly how I'd describe 90% of Ronaldos fouls. I understand I'm not going to get much agreement on that in this particular thread.

Well, I agree with you. I've said the same about Gerrard in the past, though. So often he is bursting through the midfield and is clipped and goes down. When you run at the pace some of these lads can then any little touch can knock you off balance. However, I acknowledge that there have been occasions where he has gone down far too easily. The thing I would argue with Ronaldo is that as you say most of the time there has been some contact which has knocked him off balance. But there have also been a couple in the last couple of weeks where he goes down because he's lost the ball. The theatrics and pouting make it particularly annoying to watch for fans of other clubs. But I'm sure you'd say the same about Gerrard's snarling sullenness.

Nearly all players in this country do it now, it clearly isn't reserved to the foreigners, despite what the media would have you believe. I don't understand why some fans can't admit that players in their own team do it. Surely it is something we all want to see killed off and removed from the game? However unlikely that may be.

I don't know, it's a pretty boring topic now. Most players do it and, like shit decisions in matches big and small, it has become part of the game. :)

I'd agree with all of that actually. I've never said Ronaldo never dives (there was a discussion in the main thread earlier this week) but I know from watching football each week that he is far from alone. I think players weigh up how much benefit there is in staying on foot (see Rooney/Carragher(?) against you) and decide what to do from there. Not in the spirit of the game but (as you say) has become part of it.

Liverpool reserves are playing really well although Arsenal look tired and jaded.

It would be revenge for Arsenal reserves knocking us out of both cups last year if we could go on and win this.

Plessis looks very calm and composed on the ball and has an impressive first half. Crouch has been fantastic, it is a shame our new system cannot incorporate him easily as I really rate him as a player.

Excellent point, and - crucially - means that when Everton beat Derby today our markedly superior goal difference means that they're not within a single win of overtaking us - There's effectively an extra point between us and Everton have Arsenal and Chelsea left to play.

I'm a bit puzzled as to why Walcott wasn't booked for a fairly virulent show of contempt when a decision didn't go his way towards the end. It was certainly more vociferous than that Torres and even Mascherano saw a yellow for. Will we now see the FA concede that their 'crackdown' was merely a fictitious event, and that making an example of one player in order to sate the tiny memory spans of the average fan and journalist was all that was ever going to be involved? I hope that they are truthful now.

Really felt like that game was there for winning, but I guess a draw is a good enough result.

Plessis had a great debut.

Yeah, he's been excellent for the reserves this season - Looks to have an excellent future ahead of him. I also thought that Lucas looked good in the more expansive role he played today, particularly in the first half. That's clearly his natural position.

Good result (better than my 1-0 prediction). On the positive side, Plessis was excellent. Very calm, passed the ball well. Arbeloa was great. Good defensively (some excellent niggly blocking of the opposition) and got forward well.

On the negative side, I would rather not see Pennant nor Voronin in the first team again.

I thought the ref handled the game very well. He let play flow and only got his cards out when he had to. Thought he handled the Walcott incident properly (as opposed to the Steve Bennett School of Reffing).

Agreed, I would also add Riise to make it those 3 have to go this summer, he could play until he was 100 and still not put a decent ball into the box.

Everyone else was excellent today, similar to the Chelsea away game, I feel a bit gutted only getting a draw, they were there for the taking.

Special mention has to be echoed again for Plessis, bloody hell, how comfortable was he on the ball, paticularly against an Arseal team that were giving us neither time nor room. I can see him and Lucas playing together much more away from home, they were fabulous together and made the team look so solid. Well played Skrtel again too, he looks better with every game. If we fill in the blanks this summer with the right players (left back, right wing, striker) the future is looking pretty rosey indeed.
