I was a fan of Torres' before I even knew who Berbatov was. He's been my favourite player for years. I always hoped somebody would bring him to the Premiership; I knew his style would suit the English game and I'm really happy that he is doing so well for you guys.

I wanted to slap people like Ramone silly when I heard all their reservations about his arrival!

Well, that was brilliant.

Torres and Gerrard are great, and hugely impressive in person. You expect Torres to score every time he gets the ball, and Gerrard seems so forceful, dynamic and physical. I wasn't convinced by Pennant and Benayoun, Alonso and Lucas did OK.

Newcastle defended reasonably well for some time, although we had a few chances and seemed favourite it was relatively quiet. But as soon as the freakish what-exactly-happened-there goal went in, all the Newcastle players looked like they'd just lost a cup final. The belief seemed to drain out of them, and then Torres/Gerrard killed them off shortly after. They didn't have much to offer, and Owen was pretty much completely out of the game, poor lad. Martins had a corker of a shot hit the crossbar, but other than that they'll have to improve for me to have a chance of complimentary tickets for Anfield next year.

Ameobi's tickets put us right in the away end, so I kept my new scarf hidden so as not to get chucked out or have a load of half-naked beer-bellied Geordies on my back. The Newcastle fans deserve better than what they got from their team: they were all singing loudly throughout. By contrast, the home fans were almost silent for most of the game. The Geordies sang "Where's your famous atmosphere?" "You don't even sing 3-0" and "Shall we sing a song for you?" I can't help thinking they had a point. Maybe the accoustics mean sound doesn't travel to the Anfield Road stand or something, but I was pretty surprised.

Disappointed I didn't get to properly join in with YNWA, except under my breath as the Geordies were singing "Sign On", and I never got the chance to look at the Baros dent in the European Cup. Maybe next year.

The atmosphere at league games has been on the wane for some time. All of the distractions this season haven't helped either. There have been times where the only songs being sung were about the owners.

Glad you enjoyed it, mate. I bet Torres moved a lot quicker in the flesh than you thought him capable of when watching on TV. That's how he appeared to me anyway. I always knew he was quick, it was one of the reasons I was sure he'd make it over here, but I don't think you can really appreciate it until you've seen the runs he makes off the ball and see him chase down and redeem a lost cause, or just pull away from defenders with complete ease. I agree with you about Gerrard as well; seeing him in person gives you a much better appreciation for the space he creates for himself at all times, as well as his pace, power and control. The pair of them are forces of nature.

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has terminated talks with Dubai International Capital (DIC) over acquiring a 49% stake in the club.

DIC had earlier announced it was in advanced talks to buy a stake in the Anfield side.

But in a statement on the Liverpool website, Hicks said: "I have decided to exercise my right to veto any sale of any portion of Kop and the club to DIC.

"We will explore other options as regard to the ownership of the club."

This is probably a better outcome than him getting his hands on that 1%. I don't think DIC will just go away but it does mean that, at best, we're in for a wait. I was hoping this would all be resolved soon but his actions so far reek of "make me an offer I can't refuse". I'm hoping they do it the Corleone way rather than the Abromovich way.

I think DIC were expecting this to happen and them going public recently was to let the fans know why the talks have broken down. They've shown that their interest is real and they've shown that they're willing to compromise. All he has done is deny that he's even considering selling, deny that he has held talks with them, and then blamed it on them making unreasonable demands when the talks they were not having have broken down. He's holding out for as much as he can squeeze out of them or us.

Rafa Benitez has confirmed Xabi Alonso will play no part in the club's UEFA Champions League clash against Internazionale on Tuesday.

Liverpool head out to Milan with a 2-0 lead but in the knowledge they will have to make do without the services of Xabi Alonso.

The influential Spanish schemer's girlfriend has gone into labour, with Benitez having accepted family affairs take priority over football.

"Xabi wanted to stay behind. He had said he would come if things were okay, but we couldn't wait, wait, wait, and I now have to use my squad."

Benitez was also able to confirm Javier Mascherano's place in the squad after he recovered from a groin injury, and the Argentinian will almost certainly start at the San Siro.

The combative midfielder will slot straight back into the side, with Lucas Leiva expected to keep his place in Benitez's starting XI.

It's a shame for us as he's been back on form of late and we'll miss his creativity if the game opens up but I think Lucas is up to the challenge. I think Rafa will go with:

------------------Pepe

Arbeloa----Carra--Hyypia--Aurelio

-------------Masch--Lucas

Kuyt------------Stevie---------Babel

-----------------Torres

Bench:

Itandje

Skrtel

Riise

Yossi

Pennant

Voronin

Crouch

Totally agree with all that. It's unfortunate that this is all being dragged out but ultimately Hicks days are numbered.

Carra keeps getting that right-back berth atm. Is everyone else injured or is he just that good.

When Agger comes back what will happen with the CB situation? Hyypia to go?

Finnan is injured and they're a big side so I expect Rafa wants Carra at right back to cope with that, as well as Skrtel's pace in the middle to cope with Suazo or Cruz.
