bowser123 - when Rafa arrived Man U were a lot better than Liverpool so it is hardly surprising you only needed one or two players to complete your squad. Liverpool needed a lot of players. Some have worked, some havent.

Really? I'm being facetious here, but according to lots Ferguson was past it, the team was gone and Utd's time was up. This was what, 2003 or so?

Compare the squads from the early 2000's to now- there's a core of players in both (Scholes, Neville, Giggs, Rio), but look at how many have been bought recently. Utd have had to roughly rebuild as much as LFC IMO.

Barthez/ Bosnich/ a load of cheap clowns like Taibi- VDS

Irwin/ Heinze/ Silvestre- Evra/ Silvestre

Neville- Neville

Rio- Rio

Stam/ Larry White- Vidic/ Brown

Beckham- Ronaldo

Giggs- Giggs/ Nani

Scholes- Scholes/ Anderson

Keane- Carrick/Hargreaves

Ruud- Saha

Yorke/ Forlan/ Ole- Rooney

Squad shite like Kleberson, Miller etc have gone- that's the thing with Ferguson, if it aint working he sells the fucker sharpish.

Carragher, Gerrard, Hyppia, Finnan (nearly as long as Rio I think) have been regulars since the early 2000's. I make that 4 regulars to 4 regulars. Obviously I'm partly talking pre- Benitez time here, but Utd have had to change just as much over a period not much greater than pre-Benitez.

Pretty good (loooong) article here about just how great the owners have been:

http://www.anfieldroad.com/news/2008011327...-to-leave.html/

They've managed to mess up on the stadium, Rafa, transfer dealings (particularly Mascherano) and actually buying the club. In fact I can't really think of one good thing they've done (ok we were able to buy Torres, but given the amount of money we got from players sold, we'd have been able to afford him under Moores too).

So. Can we find anything positive to say today please :(

Well....I got tickets for the game tomorrow, so I'm going to Anfield for the first time in ages. Woo!

I'm still annoyed with the owners though :( Ok they probably had to come out and say something, with so much speculation, but I can't believe they actually thought offering Klinsmann a job was a good idea. And Hicks didn't exactly sound apologetic about it. Grr.

Without Benitez we would be much worse off. Without him at the helm we would not have Torres, Mascherano, Alonso etc at the club. I'm thankful for these players at least.

Our squad might be worse off, might be, you never know who the new guy would have bought, but I'd have to imagine we'd playing better football. I honestly think if you gave ANY manager in the Premiership our squad we'd be at least where we are.

What about with Man Utd's squad, or Chelsea's or Arsenal's?

Yeah, you give any manager in the league those squads and they'd be at least where we are. Give them a decent manager on top and they'd be challenging. I think our squad is as strong as those three. We're all doom and gloom about the squad now, but were we really before the season started? I had high hopes, I honestly thought we'd be challenging. But now it's the squad that isn't good enough. WELL THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH :(

Give a man a player and he can win a game. Give a man time and he can win trophys.

It's okay, it's on the wesite now, Rafa wants the players to give 100%. That should solve things. No more sending them out after telling them to give 60 or 70%

Seriously though, Agger's foot is fucked. I hope it doesn't fall off.

I don't watch Liverpool all that much but do any of you guys think part of the problem is that the team (or Rafa) haven't developed a particular style of play suited to the players and the club. Looking at the top 3, Arsenal and United both have very distinct styles of football, also evident with Chelsea, especially as that style has changed between managers. I would honestly struggle to say what style of football Liverpool play, but I can only assume Rafa has an idea of what he wants by continually playing Kuyt! I really wouldn't mind Crouch at United if he didn't mind not being first choice!

Rafa adapts depending on the opposition and that's probably why you see us as having no particular style or pattern of play. Utd and Arsenal are both at their best when they just play their 4-4-2's and let the players play with freedom. Benitez doesn't currently work like that and he seems to see the game more like chess. It's the way he is and I doubt he'll ever change.

Wenger saying playing at Goodison is tougher then Anfield.

Thanks for that. Your contribution to this thread is always worthwhile. :(

Good read, I really hope Rafa gets to stay :(

I'd really like to see him get another two season...Why do people take such joy in having a moan about Liverpool? This thread seems to be filling up with people wanting a to have a go...can the football thread not be used for this?

I'm still a pretty content Liverpool fan, sure we've had a bad run but I can only see it getting better. I'm not praying on big signings in the summer I think we have a good squad but any good additions will obviously be welcome (Van der Vaart Van der Vaart Van der Vaart!). Lets just see if our fortunes change over the next few weeks :(

Agger out again. Getting beyond a joke now. :)

Daniel Agger has suffered a recurrence of the metatarsal injury which has kept him out since September.

Specialists have yet to confirm how long the Dane will now be out of action, but Rafa Benitez doesn't expect Agger to feature this month.

The news comes just days after the centre-back was due to make a comeback in a reserve game at Blackburn, only for the match to be cancelled due to the weather.

Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We've had some bad news in that Agger has the same problem again. He was training and ready to play but yesterday in training he felt something, so we need to go back and start from the beginning.

"It's not easy to say when he will be back. He is going to see different surgeons and then we will be able to analyse the situation."

Asked if the defender was likely to feature in the next few weeks, Benitez added: "No, I don't think so."

Aside from Agger, Benitez has a clean bill of health for the FA Cup third round replay with Luton on Tuesday night.

The Spaniard added: "Fabio Aurelio is fit again and the other players are available."

Totally agree. Other teams threads don't seem to get the trolls that we get. I'm all for constructive criticism from Ramone etc but the nonsense we see posted from other non Liverpool fans is irritating.

The most succesful club in the country, ever, is bound to draw some flack. Jealously from people like Chelsea fans, who have a proud history as long as a flee's arm, no doubt.

WINK

So. Can we find anything positive to say today please

This.

It seems that this thread has started to attract a few trolls (not you Disciple ^_^ ) possibly because of our current situation. Can we keep this thread for the genuine fans - take the trolling to the Football Thread or it's banhammer time, subject to who I think is taking the piss at any given moment.

Would it be OK to post that if Schevchenko was a Liverpool fan?

In real life, do you talk about football generally with anyone, but refuse to talk about Liverpool with anyone who isn't a fan?

Interesting quote, in my opinion.

He's an imbecile that has been trolling this thread for months. His anti Liverpool stance is clear for anybody to see. His contributions to this thread are all too often inflammatory.

I talk to anyone about football and to be honest spend far, far to much time talking about the bloody game. When I am talking to people that support other teams I try not to antagonise them. Two of my best mates are big Spurs fans and they are ripe for a piss taking but I'm old enough and wise enough to know that I could be in their position some day. Many moons ago I nearly came to blows over football with a work mate. That's just stupid and I look back on those days with a certain amount of regret. You learn from your mistakes.

This is a Liverpool thread for Liverpool fans. The general football thread is surely the place to post any old crap?
