Gerrard seemed to start running at our own players and taking the ball off them in the hope that he would be the 'saviour' and provide the most awesome ball, or something. That's what it looked like to me, anyway. I wonder if this game would have been better with the classic Sissoko & Alonso combo in the middle.

Somebody, anybody instead of Kuyt would have done it for me. The whole Kuyt thing is a mystery, it's not like he misses chances, bad header today aside, he doesn't even get chances. I mean he could go four games without getting the chance to score. Don't strikers say "As long as I'm getting chances it means I'm in the right place and the goals will come" or something like that?

When you play as deep as he does (especially at the moment, as he's deeper than ever), you're not gonna come across too many chances.

Yep. Torres didn't have a great game, but he could have got two goals on another day and man of the match. Is Rafa telling Kuyt to play this deep? Even if he isn't, Kuyt doesn't offer anything going forward, he can't play from deep. You need to be fast, have a good touch and be very creative. Kuyt doesn't offer any of those things.

Maybe Rafa should try to sign someone selfish like Anelka or Defoe.

Kuyt admitted a few weeks ago that the death of his father is still on his mind and he was a huge figure in his life and used to having him around, but was working on getting back to his best.

Funnily enough I thought he had a decent game today but never really looked like scoring, until the header. For me a bigger problem today was the lack of back up from Kewell, Benayoun and Gerrard when we looked to get balls in. There were a number of occasions where we stretched City but didn't attack balls into the box.

Overall it was a decent performance, Mascha again I have to say was superb but it's just a shame we coudn't turn that pressure and possession into goals :D

We've had that problem for years now and I don't really things improving in this area. You don't really ever see 2-3 of our midfielders rushing towards the opposition's box. That, with Kuyt not doing much in the link striker role, makes it doubly difficult to score what few opportunities we create.

That is my biggest worry when we play 4-4-2. Gerrard plays far too deep most of the time and the wingers go wide but there's no over-lap, there's no wing play; usually just an early cross. I was quite surprised that Rafa didn't go with the 4-3-3 from the start today, I was even more surprised that he didn't switch to it at some point after the 60th minute when it became abundantly clear that we weren't going to score today, not the way we were playing. I have absolutely no clue why he only used one substitute, and left it so late to do even that.

I was shouting at the telly, more or less begging him to bring Alonso on for Yossi and Babel on for Kewell (who was so shagged out he was hiding in the center circle for most of the second half), after about 10 minutes of the second half. :D

I'd have taken a point from this one before the game, considering their home form but it just feels like a step backwards after Man U's loss to West Ham and Arsenal dropping points at Pompey. There's also the little matter of our complete dominance during the actual game, I'm sick and tired of seeing us control games in the manner we often do, without finding a goal when we're on top.

Torres needs better service, it's almost like the team think that if they just give him any kind of ball anywhere near the box he can be expected to go on and score. Obviously, a productive strike partner will go some way to remedying that, but we really need to pick up some consistency now and find that winning mentality that wins games like this one.

Still, Wigan at home on the 2nd should be good. Maybe we'll put 4 past them or something. It's a pity we couldn't find just the one today, though.

Whats Jordy Brouwer like? There are rumours on the Swans message boards that he is coming to us on loan. If he is half as good as Paul Anderson then I'd be delighted.

Very poor. He has failed to shine for our reserve side at all. Ajax let him go to us without a fight, says it all really.

I had high hopes for Paul Anderson but my mate is Swansea born and bred, a football referee & knows his football well, but he says that although Anderson is having a damn good season he's just not Liverpool class.

No offence about the Liverpool class thing btw.

To be fair to him he's started to score this year. Going to Swansea will no doubt do him the world of good. Though they might be better off with Nemeth or any of the 3 youth team strikers - they're on fire this season!

Right, just about to make tracks for Liverpool. The game is set to be another mauling after that 0-0, hopefully he'll put a full strength team out; it'd be a bit of a let down to get all the way up there and not see Torres play.

I would offer you to pop in for a brew but sadly I'm not going home tonight.

Anyway, tonight we should win 2-0.

You know he's not even going to be in the squad now you've said that :P

I actually doubt Torres will play myself. He looked fucked in the second half of the Man City game, this one's for Crouch to do the business. Oh, is this on telly tonite?

Sky have the Bolton v Derby game I think. I'll be internetting the Newcastle v City game.

No MotD either.
