The old Man Utd Thread

Well the BBC are reporting that Di Maria hasn't joined up with the United squad as LvG said he would and that he's gone to PSG's training ground for a medical instead.

Him and Rojo are joining up after the game so say the travelling journos.

Good centre-forward play from him. I do wonder if he'll eventually be playing anywhere across the front three for us. Obviously right now he is better off playing on the wings, but he's tall enough to play centrally, he's actually got two inches on Rooney. He naturally has a much more slight frame and is not as physically powerful, but he seems to have spent some time working on this.

Okay, so this isn't looking good. Without knowing the facts, it's difficult to say whether Di Maria is adopting a shitty and unprofessional attitude in deliberately not joining up with the squad to push through a move. Or, it's a simple misunderstanding. Sure we will find out more soon.

LVG on Di Maria: I have heard he was not on the plane. I cannot say anything. Di Maria I don't know why.

Blanc should be shutting the fuck up. Thoroughly unprofessional from Di Maria and shows a huge lack of respect to United who pay his wages. If he's leaving for family reasons, fair enough, but this is not the way to push a move through.

He's a great player, sadly one that appears to lack the drive and desire needed to succeed at United. I'm sure he'll do very well in a poor league, rolling over teams week in and week out.

Disappointing.

Oh well, as long as LVG has a replacement in mind who works hard for the team and wants to play for the club, then it's all good.

Thought Darmian looked solid at RB yesterday, no idea how Valencia can be ahead of him. There was a point in the match where it looked like Pedro skinned him, but he made the yards up quickly and got a decent challenge in.

What about Chicharito? Please tell me they're all just chilling somewhere in South America together and will be on the first plane this morning.

Javier has already joined up with the squad. Rojo has passport problems. Angel is AWOL.

If he really has gone AWOL then he has to go. Totally unprofessional and disrespectful and definitely not the kind of person we want at United.

I don't get why they'd ask for it to happen, and, if they have, why they'd do that without consulting LvG.

It was pretty obvious the press would ask where Di Maria was, so to leave the manager in the blind on it just doesn't make any sense.

Just let him go. It's been obvious for months his heart isn't in playing for United and I don't know that I saw a decent performance from him in 2015. It's a shame that our record signing turned out to be such a damp squib but if we are being offered a reported 40+ million for him then we should just take it and move on.

Apart from that scooped goal and missing a one vs one against Arsenal I think I can't remember what else he did. PSG paying over £40m is bailing United out at the moment - you'd put money on him being shit again this year.

He's free and couldn't get a game at Samp or Monaco — presumably he's happier to play in the reserves than Valdes. He played under LvG at AZ, so I guess he knows him well enough, he's just never looked great. I'd rather have Lindegaard or Johnstone in at #2, though the former probably doesn't fit LvG's style.

With Romero onboard, that's another Argentinian (and Spanish-speaker) at Old Trafford. Quite a revolution, but I'd like to think that they would all support each other as a team.

About Di Maria, I'd loathe to see him go so soon without proving his worth in the Premier League. And it's driving me nuts thinking that Ed Woodward would accept a 15 million loss on a quality player and definite match-winner.

The Guardian are reporting that PSG have bid £28.5m for Di Maria. :hmm:

Apparently, due to the strength of the pound against the Euro, if PSG paid the 65m euros (£46.05m) that has been widely quoted, United's overall loss on the deal would actually be less that £10m. This offer, however, is taking the piss.
