The old Man Utd Thread

I'd play Januzaj up front, he played there in the youth teams. He hasn't much pace but with the ball at his feet he's always looking to engineer space for himself to get shots off quickly, I can't find a better example than this

no.4

It's the eagerness and tenacity that I love, to chase, and get back up after being tackled. It pains my to see him wasted tbh.

We may well stick to what we've got, I'm fine and dandy with that as our midfield is boss now. Maybe we're going heavy there and doing it Chelsea-style with one forward at any one time, asking for goals from midfield for the most part. I do want to see Januzaj playing, but these extra signings don't bode well for him or the other youngsters like Pereira and Lingard.

madness. Bale guarantees goals and defenders don't like playing against him in the premier league. Januzaj, Pereira and Wilson all need to go out on loan. Yeah it'd be nice to play Januzaj but he's not there. and we can't afford to watch him waste ball after ball, be innefective when given teh chance or babysit him. Unfortuntley its the same with Di Maria. and if we have to do it with one player, i'd rather do it with Di Maria because he's the better footballer.

you've got to look at it objectively without being a MU supporter.

Would any of the top 5-6 teams in all the leagues in europe take any of them if they had the option of taking Bale instead?

No you don't, being a supporter means wanting youth to thrive, not just throwing money at stuff (though that's exactly what we're doing). I don't want Bale at our club, I want us to retain even just a little bit of what we're famous for, bringing up players and playing them against the odds. They don't need to go on loan - when has that really worked for us in the past?

Bale is the most expensive player in the world, he's obviously brilliant but I don't want him. No team would say no, but I'd prefer seeing Januzaj becoming the player we know he can be rather than signing stupidly expensive mercenaries.

LVG has confirmed we're in the process of signing a new striker, but NOT the one the media is talking about. God, I hope its Zlatan.

actually, the other thing Van Gaal said is that it's a player we haven't been linked with, so that should narrow it down a bit. we might be able to work it out by a process of elimination.

Cavani, Lewandowski, Bale, Pedro, Ronaldo, Benzema... this might take a while. hang on...

<hours pass>

right, i reckon i've narrowed it down to one of two possibilities. the only two forwards in world football we haven't been linked with are me and Fabio Borini. my agent hasn't mentioned anything to me about an approach from United, but then that doesn't mean much as i don't have one.

god i hope it's not Borini.

No chance it's Zlatan, he didn't enjoy working with him previously while at Ajax.

I've got an inkling it's Austin that you're after, what's your english quota like at the moment? On another note, I think you are right back in the mix now, it's the strongest midfield you have had for possibly 8 years by my reckoning.

More than enough for homegrown, can pretty much name a XI from squad players.

Shaw, Smalling, Evans, Jones, Young, Carrick, Rooney. The likes of Schneiderlin, Rafael and Valencia probably are classed as home trained due to the time here and age when they joined an English club.

The likes of Janujaz and Pereira aren't counted as they're so young, but will count in the future. There's also McNair, Blacket and James Wilson who again count in the future but I don't think any will make it at Utd.

Personally I think it's the best midfield for 15 years- Beckham, Keane, Scholes, Giggs. Only Carrick compares to these from the last 8 years.

Best for 15 years on paper, still have to do it on the field yet!

I don't think the striker will be a big name because 1) they'll have to play second fiddle to Rooney and 2) I can't think of a big name striker who United haven't been linked to, that's available. I think it'll be Berahino.

The Mirror said tonight that it's Llorente.

Fair enough, thought you were flying close to the wire, I think it'll be Austin as he'd be happy to play second fiddle to Rooney, or it will be an aging superstar, like Ibrahimovic, but then you might as well have just kept van Persie, I'm still puzzled as to why you sold him, and so cheap.
