Also, The mighty liverpool fc once kings of europe scrambling around desperately trying to avoid being in a european competition next season, they didn't disrespect the uefa cup when it was part of their plastic treble did they?

i was never particularly impressed with Valdes when he was at Barcelona, and he's not done much to change my mind today. one great save, but a generally chaotic presence in goal.

to be fair to him, i suppose he's the only United player who's done anything decent on the pitch.

well that's annoying. i'd been watching the cricket this morning, and turned over to watch that turgid, depressing match. i've just turned back to find that i missed Ben Stokes scoring the fastest hundred ever scored at Lords.

Plus you missed Stoke smashing Liverpool for 6.

I think if a big offer comes in for Van Persie we should probably take it. That would leave us with two strikers, one of whom is Wilson who Van Gaal doesn't seem to have much trust in, and may go on loan. I also don't think Hernandez will be returning, as he is obviously better playing with a partner, so it's hard to see where he fits in a 4-3-3. So we probably need a new striker anyway, but I am not sure there will be much quality in the market this summer.

Considering Valdez has barely played in two years, I thought he looked decent yesterday. We didn't really deserve anything from the game and his saves earned us a point. He also made a couple of errors that could've been costly, but I'll put that down to rustiness. If the club believe his injury problems are behind him and De Gea does go, I see no reason why he shouldn't be his replacement. He is not as good, but I'm not sure there is anyone available on the market who is better. We'll just have to strengthen in defence and probably also the midfield to avoid relying on our keeper so much.

Of course the absolute ideal scenario is that he decides he doesn't want to piss of the Atleti fans, and/or sees how Bale and Casillas get barracked every week and decides it's not worth it, and dumps his amazingly gorgeous popstar girlfriend... yeah not happening is it? :(

Wilson and Januzaj out on loan next season I reckon. Everton are supposedly keen on Evans and Valencia on er... Valencia. With Depay in the bag, I reckon another five additions should see us right.

Argie tabloids reckon Otamendi is a 'done deal' and probably the closest thing to a Vidic-style defender out there at the moment. Gundogan is another supposed 'done deal' too. We'll see.

I would like to see:

An experienced CB to help Jones and Smalling out and replace Evans.

A RB as Valencia isn't a RB and Rafael is seemingly always either injured or not trusted.

A new holding CM so we aren't so crap when Carrick is inevitably out injured.

A Striker to replace RVP/Hernandez and compete with Rooney.

Wouldn't be too fussed if Valencia, RVP, Nani, Cleverly and Evans were all sold off to make way.

Reports that Dani Alves is supposed to be joining on a free after debunking PSG as a possible destination. Imagine the potential shit-housery; Otamendi, Fellaini AND Alves. :D

Seriously, Alves on a free would be a step up from Valencia.

The guardian seem convinced Rafael is on the way out. I'd be a bit sad if he did go. I always liked him but he's constantly injured and I don't know if his decision-making really ever improved much or not. I used to enjoy watching him bomb forward though, and his commitment even if it did verge on rashness at times.

Wouldn't say no to him, but I can see Van Gaal getting in all these players that'll be able to play the system he started this season with and having it fail again. I can't see the reason to get rid of Van Persie since with Depay and Rooney, we'll have a pretty great attack if Di Maria is played properly. I much prefer seeing two strikers on the pitch, as when Robin is in form it's fantastic to watch him playing off someone else.

Evans would be pointless to shift on, he never moans and he can lead from the back. Quality squad player that we won't gain anything from selling, much better to have that back-up.

I'd take Schneiderlin any day of the week. Get another good centre mid in (Carrick will never stay fit for the season), a central defender (Otamendi/Gimenez from Atletico would be a personal choice), Alves at right back if we can't get someone younger and another striker if van Persie is heading off and it'll be a good summer. I'd like to see Wilson given more of a chance but he's still a bit raw.

I'm not too keen on Lloris, stick with Valdes for a season or two if he's ready and identify someone younger with ability and potential. Wouldn't be annoyed if we got him though :D

Betfred paying out early on De Gea to Madrid after a flurry of bets this afternoon apparently. Also, Brazilian ESPN reporting Roberto Firmino to United for £13.1m from Hoffenheim.

Metro and Express reporting the latter based on ESPN Brazil, so probably bollocks.
