The old Man Utd Thread

Falcao is shit or we are shit because we can't involve him. Why he came on instead of Di Maria is bonkers, just to get some last minute value in case he does do something?

Formation wasn't good to start with and we didn't adapt it well at half-time, not that we had much of a bite after our possession anyway. End of the season and I'm tired of us, it's been a long dreary one for the most part and I'm looking forward to the break!

At least it hasn't been as bad as last season.

Not far off mind. I think it shows just how much we still need to strengthen.

I really like McNair, he's still young and learning but his confidence coming out from the backline with the ball is promising compared to Jones who looks like a headless chicken 90% of the time he tries similar. He's error prone, hopefully that can be kicked out of his game. Would have loved Vidic to still be around to show him the ropes.

Reports of our resurgence have been greatly exaggerated. You could argue we've raised our game against the big teams, but the fact is we've struggled against teams that are happy to sit back and concede the ball. Our passing is ponderous in the final third and far too horizontal and predictable.

Still 4 points between us and Liverpool, but won't be surprised to see us concede fourth unless we have a turn in fortunes.

It's like we've regressed a couple of months. Teams have cottoned onto our system with Fellaini and adjusted accordingly and we're struggling again to turn possession into goals. We've no Plan B. West Brom didn't need pace on the break to score, just waited for us to make a mistake and we ended up conceding via a set-piece. No idea why McNair was in for Jones. Twice in as many weeks McNair has been at fault for a goal in the build up. He's a young lad and he'll learn, but I'd much rather have Jones in at this end of the season.

Less said about Rooney and Van Persie in midfield yesterday, the better really.

It's not lost on anyone how much we rely on a 34 year old Carrick to keep our play ticking over in this system. Last couple of weeks, it's almost like the players think the hard work has been done beating the big teams. Now our play has generally consisted of keeping the ball, making horizontal passes in the final third with no urgency what-so-ever. It's all very laboured and predictable and unless they pull their finger out, fourth is by no means a foregone conclusion.

As for Di Maria, I'd like to think he'll be here next season to show his qualities, but equally, if we accepted a bid from PSG for his services wouldn't surprise me. I think the off-field issues really have affected his game.

Why prefer him? It's not like it matters much now, even if we've been in atrocious form I can't see Liverpool catching up.

I'm not counting my chickens, but Jones is stronger in the tackle than McNair and featured during our purple patch.

As a big PSV fan I've seen Memphis play all season and he's definitely not a Ruud yet. But the lad has tons of potential and Van Gaal seems the perfect coach to take him to the next level. Certainly, the World Cup in Brasil already gave him a huge boost. He definitely has the physique though, his body is all muscle. That and his right foot is dynamite.
