The old Man Utd Thread

Rooney is such a plum. You will probably be much better the next month until he's back in November.

Lucky to get the win. Could be a tough time when having to play bigger teams. The start this year has been easy for United (on paper) but the points haul poor. Now got Everton, Chelsea and City coming up in next 4 games.

I want to tell you, I might as well do, about a boy who can do anything!

I don't see him getting games as long as we're playing any variant of a two striker system, and that makes me sad. He's got so much potential. If we move to 4-3-3 I guess that will be bad for Mata and probably Rooney too, but imagine how good we'd be with Di Maria and Januzaj on either wing and Herrera free to roam forward in attack. When Carrick's fit again we could play this way.

You feel sorry for young? Really?

Yeah, there's a player in there somewhere. He was scintillating for Villa and England before we signed him, his early form was very good for us too.

See, it's talk like this why I shouldn't play Football Manager. I end up rotating the team to death because I feel sorry for a bunch of pixels.

Young's problem is he's quite one-dimensional, he just cuts inside onto his right foot. Every time. Obviously as a United player you face a bit more scrutiny so teams figured him out very quickly. He hasn't got the variety to play on the wing for us, although he is very good in his all around ability, particularly defensively. I think he will move on very soon, to another premier league club and do very well.

Januzaj could easily play behind a front two in Rooney's position. He's played in his younger days for the U18's and Reserves.

I agree he could play there in the long term, but I think he would need to develop his understanding of the game and also develop physically (not necessarily bulk up) to play centrally. He could play there for sure, but it's a more natural fit to have him out wide in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 where he doesn't have quite as much responsibility.

Shame about Herrera, he's been terrific so far. I wonder if we will move away from the diamond, doesn't make quite as much sense without him and Rooney available.

Just to add to my shit posts this week - it does make me smile that we clearly have the most talented set of graphic designers in football working for us. Compare to the shit Liverpool churn out on their Twitter. A small victory.

Him or Alonso. They are appreciably weaker this season. Their replacements (Isco, Kroos) are younger and will improve, but as of right now they just aren't as good. Their midfield last season of Alonso - Modric - Di Maria was almost perfect, with three superbly gifted players who can also graft and be aggressive when needed.

Our keeper is best keeper. He's (touch wood) turned a draw or even potentially a loss into a win.

What does Fellaini do?

Get his fitness back and then presumably try to break into the first team under Van Gaals direction? It's not like we have loads of midfielders, give him a chance.

We still look a bit top-heavy and though our defence mostly played well, Everton had too many opportunities. Hopefully when Carrick is back, he will be able to play a double pivot with Blind and this will be less of an issue, they are doing well despite the general lack of structure in front of them. Given the performances of McNair, Blackett and Rojo (particularly Rojo) I think our supposedly senior central defenders will have a hard time getting back into the team when they regain fitness.

The main thing I find a bit worrying at the moment is that we look really potent going forward early on and then it all kind of fades away and we end up dropping deep and creating nothing and barely hanging on by the end. Happened in the past few games now.

I'm sure there's still lots of gelling to be done but the balance of the team definitely isn't quite there yet.

Missed this on account of the missus giving birth to our second, but well chuffed with the result

Congratulations Bleeders! I missed the game when RVP scored a hat-trick against Villa to win us the league, including that amazing volley, due to my son being born at the same time. I'm still a bit annoyed with him about that.

Encouraging signs today, I thought. Di Maria is still amazing, Falcao got off the mark, Shaw looked good, the defence didn't look too bad generally (Rojo and McNair for first choice pairing?) and De Gea is some kind of superhuman based on today's performance. You have to wonder though - how on earth are we fourth? Haven't we only won three games?

I think that's fair but the team is still work in progress. Whats important is that LvG has mentioned it in the interview afterwards on several occasions so its obviously something they're going to work on. The best thing about the team is for a long a time they're exciting to watch. I think the rest will come, we gradually getting better with every passing game and we've still got a number of players missing.

I love Falcao too.

Thanks! :D

Thankfully, he arrived before kick-off, so Twitter and Vines sufficed. Fell asleep waiting for MOTD last night as well hoping to see more of the game.

I did see Super Dave's three saves though, MOTM surely?

MotM was given (to Di Maria) before Super Dave's last two saves I think.

Keane just can't resist having a go at Ferguson, can he? Ferguson was actually full of praise for Keane in his book (I read it last month), and in his first book. Yes there's a few passages about the MUTV interview where Keane gets some shit but that's it. Also, wasn't Roy in the press last year questioning why he was coming out with a second autobiography at all? Irony overload.
