The old Man Utd Thread

Ok, lets have a "guess the next team lineup". I'm not sure anyone will get it right! I'm going to go for:

De Gea Jones Evans RojoValencia Blind Fletcher Herrera Di Maria Falcao Rooney
I'd probably go for Januzaj for Valencia but can't see it happening, Carrick in for Fletcher when he's back fit, but that's surely the best team we can put out?

Difficult to predict at the moment as we don't know which players will be back fit and available.

I think given the players we've got now I wouldn't mind seeing a 4-4-2 (I still prefer a 4-3-3) but with a diamond midfield. I do realise this is unlikely given LvG seems adamant with the 3-5-2 but we can hope. Based on everyone being fit I'd go with:

De Gea

Rafael - Jones - Smalling - Shaw

Blind

Herrera - Di Maria

Mata

Falcao - Rooney

On paper that looks formidable doesn't it. I don't think anyone in their wildest dreams would have predicted a lineup anything like that!

It will be fascinating to see how you line up, and there are some brilliant players in your squad now. With the imbalance in the squad in some areas I guess it's possible you'll still get caught out here and there, but if I were a Utd supporter I think I'd be juggling formations to fit all my favourites in too. I do think one or two of the players (probably Mata and especially (sadly) Januzaj, mainly) you'd like to see in there will be sidelined more often than you'd like though.

Personally, I'm hoping van Gaal just goes and ahead and tries to shoehorn everyone in like the mid-00's Milan sides did, just to see what happens. You might struggle to win/keep the ball at times then, but holy hell it'll be entertaining every time you're going the other way...

Particularly when you'd have a bench including Van Persie, Carrick, Januzaj, Valencia, Rojo and ummmm Anderson.

I reckon sooner or later, with a few players back fit, and Rojo able to play, and if we stick with 3-5-2, and RVP recovering from the operation I'm assuming they're about to send him for... That's a lot of qualifying statements.

............De Gea

...... Jones Smalling Rojo

Rafael/Valencia ..... Shaw

....... Herrera.... Blind

........ Mata/Januzaj

...... Rooney Falcao

Edit ffs my phone "corrected" the formatting.

I'm sure Mata will get games although his performances so far this season don't warrant a place in the team.

Which ever system we employ now, quality players are going to miss out but I like that, as long as EVERYONE is droppable. I do worry the likes of Rooney won't get the same treatment should they not perform.

My team, 4,2,3,1 formation:

De Gea

Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw

Herrera Blind

Di Maria Mata Rooney

Falcao

To be honest that front four could be any combination of Rooney, RVP, Januzaj, Mata, Falcao, Di Maria. The good thing is we have real competition for places there which will hopefully bring some great performances. Herrera and Blind will hopefully bring some solidity and give the defence some much needed support. If we're looking to shut up shop in games we could pull off the number 9 and switch to a 5-2-3.

Angel has been awesome coming in off the right. If him and Falcao strike up an understanding, then I see goals. Lots of goals.

If we can keep them out of the other end, that would be useful too.

Still seems strange to see those names written down knowing that they play for Manchester United.

it doesn't seem real does it? it's going to be difficult to get used to. in fact, it's going to be really weird seeing Danny Welbeck in an Arsenal shirt. he played well for England tonight, and watching it, he still felt like one of ours.

I didn't watch the England game, elected to watch our other two representatives playing for Argentina. ;)

I like the look of Rojo as well, but obviously Di Maria stole the show; he was imperious. I can't believe Real sold him. Falcao will relish the type of assists Di Maria can provide, also, virtually no misplaced crosses all night. Hope Young and Valencia were watching.
