The old Man Utd Thread

Weird but I would've been more excited by hearing we'd signed De Jong or Blind than Falcao. We have three very good forwards (albeit one that offers next to no goal threat), there is no point adding to that unless we can actually get the ball to them. Also we just made Rooney our captain. It's exciting to have a player of that calibre at the club, in much the same way that the signings of Mata and Di Maria were exciting before that. It doesn't help us address the long term structural problems within the squad though. Unless we find out that Van Persie has a long term injury or needs surgery or something, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

As much as I can understand the excitement in here about Falcoa, with no Champs league football, no Carling Cup and Rooney and Van Persie upfront already, why loan him then pay him £347K a week!!

Desperation to please the fans because of the bad start??

Real have already shown what happens when your team is seriously unbalanced.

Falcoa

Rumours that RVP needs surgery and buying back that fear factor. And United aren't paying him £347k a week.

Lol, simple spelling mistake!

Really, not what I heard earlier. Like I said, I can understand the excitement, just an odd signing unless more needed players are also coming in.

I feel quite bad that Welbeck has gone. I still think he's a better player than many give him credit for and I reckon he could do well at Arsenal. We've also lost our only striker with any pace. I think there was still a place for him in the squad.

On another level it just feels sad because, with all these big money signings at the same time, necessary as they may be, it feels like the team that turns out in a few weeks may be barely recognisably United anymore. At least, the United I'm used to. Which is arguably part of the problem because most of them aren't good enough anymore (or were only good enough when Fergie was around to work his magic) but still. Change at United has usually been more organic than this.

Sad to see Danny go and I too think he'll do well at Arsenal, but James Wilson isn't a slouch and looks a prospect as well.

Burnley was abject, no doubt, but what the media haven't really been giving credence to is the fact we have had 10 injuries and new players yet to make their debut.

With a full quota at our disposal in a 4-3-3 our team "looks" a potentially strong side.

De Gea

Rafael

Jones

Rojo

Shaw

Blind

Herrera

Rooney/Mata

Di Maria

Falcao

Januzaj/Rooney

Aside from Fellaini last season, I'm struggling to see the panic buys? We've bought two defenders, two midfielders/three if you count Di Maria and an attacker. All roles we needed to fill and improve on. Yes, we still need strengthening in defensive and midfield areas, but what's the point when we have no CL this season? Fletcher isn't of the required level anymore sadly and that showed on Saturday, he can't do that role on his own. We've Carrick to come back as well.

I think the Falcao transfer happened because neither Real or City were in a position to get him/didn't want him, so Mendes offered him up to us. With RVP due for an op, it makes sense especially when we've lost Welbeck and Hernandez too.

Ok, lets have a "guess the next team lineup". I'm not sure anyone will get it right! I'm going to go for:

De Gea Jones Evans RojoValencia Blind Fletcher Herrera Di Maria Falcao Rooney
I'd probably go for Januzaj for Valencia but can't see it happening, Carrick in for Fletcher when he's back fit, but that's surely the best team we can put out?
