The old Man Utd Thread

It was obviously a condition of the Rojo deal. It does seem ridiculous on face value, but they were clearly trying to get the deal over the line.

I think Nani free for a year was part of the deal for Rojo so that the actual money fee for Rojo was lower, meaning Sporting didn't have to give as much money to the 3rd party owners

In all fairness, it's been a good transfer window for us; Shaw, Rojo, Di Maria, Blind and Herrera all in. I think that might be it now for us, unless a last minute deal is done for another CM, but I imagine LVG will be looking at how Strootman recovers perhaps.

It's looking like Hernandez is off to Juventus, Cleverley to Valencia or Villa and Shinji back to Dortmund. Sad not to see Shinji show his qualities on a consistent basis in the team, hopefully he can rediscover his form back under Klopp.

1 - Daley Blind made the most passes (2089), interceptions (74) and tackles (77) of all Ajax players last Eredivisie season

Right, that's good news. Hopefully he'll bring some stability to our defence.

Just midfield to go now.

We've signed 3 midfielders - Herrera, Di Maria and Blind. Admittedly, the latter two are versatile to play in other positions, but they play in the middle.

True, although Di Maria is technically a winger and Blind is a defender. As you say though, they're both versatile players, so hopefully they'll plug the gaps.

Even if we lined up with Blind and Di Maria in CM it would still be better than most of our other options.

Yeah. How bad is Evans as well? He nearly gifted Burnley a goal there. You think he'd have learnt his lesson after how bad he was in the cup.

its last season hangover. they're mentally struggling. we should sign Eileen Drewery. (although we probably will at 5 to midnight on monday for 27m quid.

We did that last summer.

Why are we always so static in midfield? Whenever Blackett or Evans had the ball, I was watching Fletcher stand still. Cleverley does the same. They don't offer angles to receive the ball which forces our defenders to punt it long to our non-target men forwards. Although TBF to Rooney, he wins more than his fair share of headers considering his diminutive height. Even Carrick doesn't really create space to receive the ball, but at least he can play the one touch football needed to move the ball through midfield quicker. Having watched plenty of Blind over the last few months, I'm looking forward to seeing him in a midfield partnership with Herrera. Not only will he offer more security defensively, but he also looks to create space around him to receive the ball and pass it on quickly or without coming under pressure.

Still wish Valencia wouldn't try to hit every cross low and hard though.
