The old Man Utd Thread

Now I know that wasn't our first team, but there were quite a few first team players in there, so what was the problem?

No matter how makeshift we were, we should simply not be getting beat by that scoreline off MK Dons.

Not a single fuck given by some of this lot, I blame my brother who went to the game, fucking jinx!

Still, as embarrassing and humiliating as this has been, we're not exactly strangers to going out to lower league sides (Southend United, York, MK Dons)

i don't think we learned much we didn't know here. i didn't realise quite how bad Hernandez has got, but Evans always has a nightmare performance in him, Anderson will always run out of steam if asked to play a full 90 minutes, Welbeck isn't interested any more, and we are too easy to carve open at the moment, no matter who we play in the defence.

we have some decent young players, and i hope they remember this, but don't let it scar them. i can't see Janko or Vermijl making it, and James was a bit disappointing, but James Wilson should probably be promoted above Hernandez and possibly even Welbeck. Pereira looked more lively and adventurous than anyone we've had playing in central midfield for a while, although he gave the ball away in bad areas a few times. Powell looked quite classy too. i don't think it's all doom and gloom.

Too many players stealing a wage, not putting the effort in and/or not good enough.

Wilson and Pereira will find themselves in the first team in the future. Hernandez has got worse, his first touch and passing is non-existent and he clearly doesn't want to be here just looking at his body language on the pitch.

Can't bring myself to try and find any highlights of this, just looking at the scoreline is harrowing in itself. 4-0 to MK Dons, bloody hell.

Obviously the players can't have done very well, but special mention must go to Van Gaal, playing a back three with such an inexperienced group of players. What could go wrong?

Thought an opening day home defeat was a first in the PL too?

It was Swansea's first ever win at Old Trafford, wasn't it, rather than first default in their opening game (though I don't know if that was a thing too)?

BBC says of Swansea's win this season

"That saw the Welsh side, who also enjoyed a famous victory at Old Trafford in the FA Cup last season, ruin Van Gaal's big day by clinching their first away win over United in the league in 12 visits dating back to 1931."

So first league win, assuming none before 1931. If there were no cup wins, their first ever win there was against Moyes.
