The old Man Utd Thread

Looks like Larry David is splashing that cash and throwing it everywhere. Crazy thing is, without all these injuries we'd look pretty damn good on paper, despite the rotten form we've found ourselves in for a fair while now.

De Gea

Rafael Evans Jones Shaw

Januzaj Mata Herrera Di Maria

Rooney RVP

Amos

Smalling Blackett Rojo

Valencia Fletcher Kagawa Carrick Young

Hernandez

Two good squads there. Assuming Lindegaard is on his way out, or crocked like our defence?

Well, a central midfield partnership of Herrera and Mata would be a recipe for disaster, I reckon. That's not Mata's position.

It kind of shows the deficiencies of the squad that you've felt compelled to shoehorn him in there though. Too many good players in certain positions, not enough in others. Realistically, if you're playing a 4-4-2 or a derivative like 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1 you've got to pick two out of Rooney, Mata, and RVP.

A big part of the problem is that whoever you pick in midfield they're going to be pretty static. Our midfield has been playing at walking pace for years. Fletch is a bugger for being completely stationary in possession. Nobody moves forward with the ball.

I actually think Di Maria might play as a CM. He did that last season for Real, didn't he?

The Vidal/Blind rumours have kicked up again this morning. Apparently, the club want an appearance-based contract for Vidal, who would go some way to addressing the static midfield since Cleverley and Fletcher are simply not up to the job.

Could be in for an exciting end to the transfer window.

Appearance based sounds sensible.

if hes bought isnt he going to be playing all the time anyways?

if i were him and i was offered an appearance based contract i'd be like "err, no i want a proper contract"

It's because they're worried about his knee. We don't want another Hargreaves

Yes, exactly. In a way, waiting to see if that knee is ok was a sensible thing to do,and LVG could have weighed up Vidal against Strootman. realistically though that would involve waiting a whole season, and the first two games have shown we can't afford to do that.

If reports of two or three more signings are true, I think we might be about to see a switch in formation to 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 and one or two very high-profile, expensive arses sat on the bench.

We definitely need another two players coming in on the CB/CM position, no two ways about it.

Benatia is as good as gone to Bayern, which leaves Blind as a possible choice, but I'm wondering if LVG rated him so highly, wouldn't we have been in earlier for him?

What I've found amusing is when asked about targets, LVG saying he 'likes' Ronaldo and Di Maria. We sign Di Maria (or near enough). He did it again the other day saying he 'likes' Messi and Vidal. We sign Vidal after all... maybe... possibly... hopefully?!

I'm hopeful but not confident about Vidal. I suspect we've left it too late. Apparently Juve were willing to do business a month or so ago, but if we start trying to make a deal now, it doesn't leave them any time to sort out a replacement. Our only hope is that either player power or cold hard currency force the deal through.
