The old Man Utd Thread

I had Rojo in my World Cup Fantasy Football team and kept an eye out for him in the games I saw. He looks a decent player to me, he's strong, quick, tall (6ft 2) and he's comfortable with the ball, and looked solid defensively. He's also dangerous at set pieces, I think he even scored from one in the World Cup. He could probably play in a back 3 as well as left back. I'd say he's definitely worth £15 million. In fact I I'd rather spend £15 million on him than Vermaelen.

I saw that image about the Januzaj 11 shirt... but he was wearing 44 last night.

I like the shirt after seeing it properly for the first time.

Didn't like the ironic cheers for Fellaini, although some fans on the radio were saying they thought some of it may be genuine as he did look up for it when he came on. Was definitely ironic cheers in the section near me though.

Ah I didn't realise you were going! Yea, those cheers all around the ground. Kinda funny, better if it was for Cleverley, he was awful. Much the same as Young and James.

pricks booing Felaini. classy.

Yeah, that wasn't nice to hear. I wonder if some of the cheers were trying to hide the boo's or if indeed they were just ironic to take the piss. Either not cool.

Thought he did really well when he come on too, looked to have more urgency than he ever did last season under Moyes.

Powell getting number 23, that's got to be a good sign for him right? Has he even played with the first team this pre season?

He hasn't played any preseason games, no. Think he's had an injury though.

Speaking of injuries, Luke Shaw out for up to a month with an hamstring injury. I know he's been working extra hard in training as he was deemed unfit. Wonder if he's done a bit too much.

Are we actually going to buy any more players then? Ideally I'd like at least a full back and a midfielder, and before the weekend would be nice.

It's not going to happen though, is it?

Certainly not before the weekend.

A central defender and a midfielder to come in though are likely I'd have thought.

Manchester United should probably have retired the number 11 shirt.

Someone said Young's shit above. Hasn't LVG been using him as a wing back most of pre season... and from what I read he's done well?

The team is always bigger than the player. Retiring a number is silly, it only serves to promoto the idea of egos. We move on, with other players that can work towards getting in that first eleven. I do find it a shame that we have spaces though, 5, 7 and 9 should be filled up. Happy that Januzaj got 11 and just got a shirt with hm on the back - first time I've ever done that!

I think we will still be trying to bring players in till the window shuts, and we will still probably need to bring two or more players in during the January window. I can't even guess what team Van Gaal will pick tomorrow, apparently we have a ton of injuries in defence. Evans, Valencia, Rafael and Shaw are all doubts. Young looked good as a wing back during preseason, but that still leaves two positions where either a youngster will need to start, or someone will need to play in an unfamiliar role.

I think it'll be interesting to see how Van Gaal uses Januzaj. The playmaker role is pretty much taken, so does he play in one of the advanced forward positions? I could see him providing much excitement in a free role where he can drift, and provide runs beyond a partner operating as a more traditional striker. Kagawa could also play this role effectively I think. Welbeck and Van Persie are out, so a non striker will have to play there at some point, even if only as a sub.
