The old Man Utd Thread

i'd take Europa League qualification. ;)

i agree with what Bowser has said. the treatment of Rio in particular was very shoddy. he was a really fine servant to the club for many years - a brilliant player, for a time the best in the world in his position, and a big personality as well. you get the impression he bought a lot to the dressing room. these kind of players often become a disruptive force in their later years as they feel their powers waning, and it seems this might have been the case with Rio, but you still have to remember what he did. i hope his signing for QPR does finally go through, and he comes back to Old Trafford next season and is given the great reception he deserves.

i hope we haven't spent too much on him if that's true. he's looked good for Madrid in a kind of "good for him keeping his place in the team despite not being a proper galactico" way, but dreadful at the World Cup. i know he's sort of underrated, but i've read reports of a fee above £40m and i'm not convinced he's in that bracket.

Evra asks to leave.
Oh dear :(
Fine with that if the Vermaelen rumours are true.

Looks like Kroos is probably going to be off to Madrid. Bit odd as he'll be directly competing with Illara for the position that is basically nailed down for Alonso still, unless they want to play him further forward. I don't think he is an ideal modern number 10, he's not really quick enough. I'm surprised Guardiola would be willing to let him go, he is probably the best passer they have (barring maybe Thiago who never really got the chance to impress last season), and his coaching style requires a player that can control the pace of the game. If it means Khedira is available then that could be good news for us, he's arguably more the sort of player we need anyway.

I'd be very happy we signed Di Maria. Him on the right, Januzaj on the left, whee. We're being linked with so many good players, and I'm allowing myself to believe that this all seems pretty plausible.

PSG have all but closed the deal with Di Maria according to the Sunday Times. Maybe PSG can sell us Moura on the cheap now given his opportunities for a first-team place has become somewhat diminished with Di Maria's potential arrival.

Vidal is on his holidays now, but hasn't apparently dismissed us out of hand, but this has the Sneijder/Lucas/Ronaldinho/Thiago about it.

Vidal on Chilean TV: "I've heard the rumours, but I haven't spoken more about this topic... I'm enjoying my holidays, and when I return to Italy I'll see what happens... I'm very calm, and anyone would love to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world."

Most of the Di Maria rumours (regardless of who they say is in for him) are just of the 'reports say' ilk. Looks like the Metro started it.

Evra has signed for Juventus, apparently via email. Yeah his form dipped in his last few seasons at the club, but I remember there was a five year stretch where whenever I went to games, it was just amazing to see the work he put in off the ball. When Giggs started to move into a more central role, the whole left wing was his, and he took that responsibility in his stride. All the best Pat. :)

Yeah, I've read it's reportedly around 70 Million per year, not sure how long the deal is for....

I hope a fair bit will be allocated to transfer funds as I doubt Adidas want to be sponsoring a club in name only, they along with the fans want CL football

Club have confirmed 750M over 10 years with adidas, starting season 15/16.

In comparison last season Nike paid 25M plus 9M revenue profits. Crazy that adidas have more than doubled that deal.

Entrenched owners aren't going anywhere.

Ah ok, this makes more sense then.

"Arsenal keep their merchandising+retail rights+profits in £30m/yr Puma deal, Utd hand theirs over to adidas - they get £70m but adidas get all profits"

Still a good deal though I suspect!

That is just a crazy sum of money. Fair play to whoever got that deal. I minimum of £750m too so I guess based on success on the pitch it could rise.

Lets hope this means they clear the debt and invest in the squad.

Fair play to the Glazers, they've done a fantastic job. They survived the years of underinvestment okay and now the debt story is basically over.

I'm not sure you can say 'fair play' given that they definitely rode their luck at times, relying heaving on Sir Alex to continue delivering results without investing in key areas of the squad. Their gamble has paid off though, with the new TV and commercial deals making the debt quite manageable. Of course it remains to see if profits are reinvested into the club, used to pay off the debts, or simply withdrawn by the Glazers. My hope is that they will sell soon, given that there is surely little potential for Woodward to increase commercial revenues any further.

I don't really understand how the Adidas deal makes financial sense. But I am obviously not going to complain.
