The old Man Utd Thread

Well if true, then I suspect Ander Herrera felt he wanted more than simply playing for United; the pull of LVG; hopefully The Equalizer (has learnt from last season) isn't waiting until deadline day to get deals sorted.

Well I'm gutted that you're not going to do your "they're not our lawyers they are they're not we don't know help" from last season. That was funnier than bartering to get Fellaini for £5m more than his release clause.

Reading reports that Bilbao have rejected Uniteds offer for Ander Herrara ....

I read yesterday that he was being given a tour of the training ground yesterday.

Fooking hell, can't United just pay the buy out clause so we don't end up paying over the odds, again

Apparently it's not the money that is the issue but the way the deal has been proposed. United have formally offered the money in the traditional way clubs do, this has been rejected. If the player formally lodges the exact same amount at the Spanish FA and buys himself out of his contract then he will be our player.

So why did Bilbao reject the offer which would be the same amount? Politics.

They only sign players from a tiny pool of Basque only, they absolutely can't be seen as a selling club. Therefore the player must force the transfer and formally pay the buyout clause. The club save face, the player is the villain.

There is also stuff about Spanish clubs having to pay 4% of any fee to his old club under a traditional transfer, which Utd are liable for if it goes the player buyout route. There is also talk of the money being taxable if we give the lad the 30 odd million to buy himself out. Basically it's a ballache and the reason why it took Munich months to buy Martinez sorting the shit out.

Of course none of this is new, it shouldn't be a surprise to Utd. Bilbao are notoriously difficult so I'd ask why exactly didn't we start the ball rolling weeks ago? Ewar Woowar is probably why.

You are certainly more clued into these type of dealings than I am, but it would certainly ring true given how difficult Bilbao are to deal with.

I dare say Herrera will help push the deal through given the reports that's he been shown around Carrington etc.

I'm sure you mentioned something about this Bilbao causing Munich no end of headaches when they were trying to buy Martinez; so I'd have expected United to have learned from this and also last season's attempt to buy him so that we knew which hoops jump through

Maybe we've sent the wrong Equalizer ....

FINALLY

I expect he will take some of the weight off Carrick in terms of starting off moves from deep. While we do need more creativity and technical quality in our midfield, we also need more drive and energy. I haven't seen much of this guy, but I don't necessarily see him solving that. Would like to see us sign Strootman, even if we do have to wait till January. Vidal seems to be available and would be amazing, but he will have tons of suitors, and also wouldn't have a pre-existing relationship with our new manager.

Shaw being imminent sounds plausible, Southampton has a new manager and the lad's World Cup has been cut short, so unless we're lowballing I don't see what the holdup would be.

reports suggest that Shaw will be going to your lot for £27mil + add ons to a potential £33mil rather than the £27mil total offered at the end of last season.

i keep hearing different reports on how good he is. when i've seen him play, he's been sort of anonymous.

He's a good footballer. Typical Spanish footballer in the sense he can play football, intelligent has a good passing range and can use either foot. What he does have as well is a bit of a nastier streak too, gets stuck in. I haven't watched him last season but I think he played further forward off a striker but he'll play deeper than that for Man Utd I suspect.

I'm sure he'll be a success.
