The old Man Utd Thread

Surprised this one hasn't been posted yet..

Sport Witness @Sport_Witness

Italian journalist Ginaluca Di Marzio says Manchester United have been in touch with Jose Mourinho and he's thinking about it.

It's arguably the biggest job in club football though, I'd be surprised if he hadn't at least thought about it when he heard the news. I should think any manager aspiring to be the greatest will want a stab at the United job at some point in their career.

Finishing behind Ireland in qualifying was a massive failure, don't be daft.

Dutch football history is littered with great teams that self implode no matter who'd managing them. It's like the essence of being Dutch to be great at football but arrogant enough to fall out with every single other Dutch person alive.

On those crazy Dutch folk what about the Dutch cup final last weekend. Ajax 1 - 5 PEC Zwolle! Ajax went one nothing up after two minutes as well!

How much was Moyes paid off? Got to be a heft chunk, and how much will the Glazer's be prepared to pay a new manager?

I can't imagine they'll be giving anyone a six year contract again though.

I can't remember where I read it, but apparently it became significantly less by failing to qualify for the Champion's League, which is why it happened after the Everton match. (Technically it was still possible before that, as Moyes said before the game.)

We could've had Mourinho or Guardiola when they were both available. Makes me sick.

Guardiola wasn't interested in the Premier League and Bayern Munich had the deal done for him long before Fergie announced he was retiring anyway.
Your owners wouldn't have put up with Mourinho.

Mourinho would be a quality signing, id love to see that. I dont think hes all that in love with Chelsea as he says. He'd be even bigger box office at Man U. And he'd finally get Rooney.

So you'd willingly bend over backwards for a preening ego-maniac who shows no club loyalty and will build a team to play such cynical and dull football that you will yearn for the days of Moyes? Go ahead.

Personally I want Giggs to get the job for the lols.

Let this be a word of warning to Rooney if LVG ends up being his boss.

Back in February of 2011 while in charge at Bayern Munich, Van Gaal demonstrated that he had the big brass cojones to drop Bayern’s big names (specifically Luca Toni) if he felt the need to and demonstrated the fact in unnecessarily literal fashion by dropping his trousers in front of the entire squad during a team meeting.

Toni, presumably during a therapy session, later recounted the ordeal:

“Van Gaal wanted to make clear to us that he can drop any player from team. It was all the same to him because, as he said, he had the balls.

“He demonstrated this literally by dropping his pants. I have never experienced anything like it, it was totally crazy.

“Luckily I didn’t see a lot, because I wasn’t in the front row.”

Rooney isn't quite management material yet.

Article in saying different to the headline shocker!

Hoping Madrid get beat tonight and Atletico win the league so that Madrid can be Madrid and unfairly sack Ancelotti. He was my preferred choice 1st time round, would be ideal.

The Van Gaal talk worries me. He hasn't been on anyone's radar for years before the Spurs link popped up a few months back.

He took Bayern Munich to the CL final and has been coaching the Netherlands. He was going to retire to a director role at Ajax before taking over the Dutch, but the rivalry between him and Cruyff exploded in everyone's faces after very little time.

The reason he's so much at the fore now is that he's said he wants a job in England after the WC or he'll retire.

Seen these comments from Keane? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/10781786/Roy-Keane-Manchester-Uniteds-players-should-be-ashamed-of-themselves-over-David-Moyes-sacking.html

Seem pretty fair to be honest. Obviously Moyes made a lot of mistakes and was probably out of his depth, but the way some of the players have acted (Rio certainly, allegedly Giggs and others too) has been thoroughly unprofessional. Against Everton they just didn't look like they gave a shit at all.

Yeah but weve not seen what theyve had to put up with in training. We've all had terrible managers who couldnt motivate us, and you end up not putting in a shift for them. You can understand the squad full of CL medals, league titles and so on with 25 years worth of training methods..suddenly having to drill far too much cardio, having someone whos never won anything telling them how. I can totally understand it. Keane has a point but hes also the person who stormed out of a world cup because he wasnt happy. No one can tell me he;d have happily accepted poor training methods without reacting.

Yeah but sending pathetic cryptic tweets like Rio, or doing Sherwood-esque undermining leaks to the press like Giggs (allegedly) are hardly good, professional ways to handle grievances.

Well yeah, Rios a bit of a fanny though isnt he, understandable after years of being incredibly well paid, and probably surrounded by yes men. Keanes got a point, but realistically, you need a manager who can command respect from these people.
