Got to be Klopp for me. Not convinced by Van Gaal, and Giggs... seriously?! He just doesn't strike me as manager material at all. I mean, could you imagine him going head to head tactically with likes of Mourinho, Wenger, Rogers etc?

Why won't Klopp happen?

Because he doesn't want the job. He knocked back Barcelona over the weekend as well.

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/apr/22/jurgen-klopp-job-manchester-united-moyes-borussia-dortmund

Jürgen Klopp has ruled himself out of the Manchester United job. The 46-year-old told the Guardian: "Man Utd is a great club and I feel very familiar with their wonderful fans. But my commitment to Borussia Dortmund and the people is not breakable."

Klopp, who was widely reported to be one of the United board's preferred candidates to succeed David Moyes, extended his contract at the Bundesliga side until 2018 in October and explained that he was "still in love" with the club last week. United did inquire about the possibility of attaining his services recently but were told that Klopp was insistent on honoring his contract at the Signal Iduna Park.

Contrary to the perception in England, neither Dortmund nor their coach believe that the team have hit their glass ceiling after losing two key players, Mario Götze and Robert Lewandowski, to the league winners Bayern Munich.

The club have only begun to establish themselves as the German league's second force after nearly going out of business in 2005. Strong financial growth over the course of the last three years has seen their turnover rise to €256m in 2012-13, a figure that puts them ahead of Premier League teams such as Liverpool €240m and Tottenham Hotspur €172m.

Since taking on the job the 2008, Klopp has led his young squad to two championships, one German FA Cup and an appearance at the Champions League final in Wembley last may. Dortmund have qualified for the next Champions League group stage and will also contest this year's cup final in Berlin, where Bayern will once again provide the opposition.

Dortmund, meanwhile, are interested in resigning Shinji Kagawa from United. The Japanese midfielder has struggled to be a regular at Old Trafford since his £17.6m move from Dortmund in 2012. Kagawa was believed to be weighing up the option of a return to Germany but is now expected to wait for the arrival of United's new manager, in the hope that his chances will improve.

i feel sorry for Moyes. i still don't think he's a bad manager by any means, it just didn't happen for him. he wasn't quite the right fit for the club, and every shortcoming in his ability has been magnified. we all knew following SAF was an impossible job, so he's failed at an impossible job - we shouldn't be surprised. i hope he goes on to great success in his next job.

so what next? i don't buy the reports of it being impossible to get Klopp. it would be a good move for him, as he would be taking control of a huge club, but with lowered expectations. i don't know a great deal about Van Gaal, he's a total football guy isn't he? that would be awesome. however, Liamness has a point that he'll be distracted by the World Cup and we might miss yet another transfer window. i don't think Giggsy would be great. i don't subscribe to the opinion that he's thick - he comes across as quite funny in the Class of 92 film. he's completely inexperienced though, and he just strikes me as yet another on the Old Trafford "he's a great player, he'll definitely be a great manager" production line, following Bryan Robson, Mark Hughes, Steve Bruce, Paul Ince, Ole Solskjaer and others. Diego Simeone would be terrifying for the players, which might be funny. he's done well this season, but does he have a track record? also, are his methods likely to work in the ego-filled environs of a huge club like United?

I think eventually Klopp will grow frustrated with Bayern and other clubs taking all his best players, and will move on. Doesn't look like it will be this summer though. I think Van Gaal is the most likely appointment (though it was widely assumed he would be off to Spurs), after that there aren't many candidates who may be available. Simeone looks close to achieving the near impossible in La Liga, and winning the title with a team other than Real Madrid or Barcelona.

GK coach Chris Woods is staying on till the end of the season at least. Hope they coerce Rene into coming back as first-team coach, but Giggs is likely to act as interim manager till end of the season most reckon.

Meulensteen has started his career as a manager now and it will be a bitter pill for him to swallow to go back to being a coach. All the same we should ask him the question. Eric Steele has a job now, and De Gea's form has continued to be excellent with Woods as coach, so thankfully that's one mistake that doesn't need to be rectified.

You never know, potentially winning it all in one season with Bayern and having a challenge of having to put together a team instead of inheriting a juggernaut side might appeal to Pep.

Would love for it to happen, but when the odds are the same as Gary Neville taking over as United boss then I'd say it's pretty much a non-starter.

Seriously though, if I was tasked with finding the new manager I wouldn't be worrying about who's available or who's said what. I would make a list starting with the number one choice regardless of their circumstances and ask the question, then work my way down the list. And Guardiola would be top of that list, then Klopp, Mourinho and so on. If you don't ask you don't get.

If Pepe didn't want a juggernaut side he'd not have taken the Bayern job. They've regressed under him as well imo.

How do you improve on a side that won it all last season? Pep's had a good go so far and won their domestic league in record time. He brought in Alcantara and Gotze as well, players they probably didn't need but added to their already impressive midfield. Certainly if they don't win the Champions League and their domestic Cup Final, then it would perhaps be seen as a regression.

I imagine the United hierarchy maybe testing the water, given that honoury Bayern president, Beckenbaur's comments (which he retracted) that he finds the team 'unwatchable' and Pep saying he won't stay where he isn't wanted. Nothing story, but if you don't ask etc.

Bayern hadn't lost all season until they were confirmed champions. That's pretty impressive, even in a fairly dead league.

Van Gaal could go either way really. He's got a lot of experience at the highest level and has won quite a bit, but he also has a rather lengthy list of notable fuck ups (Holland 2002 and Barca 2003 being the most obvious examples).

As Pep's tried to evolve the side they've got worse over the year imo. E.g Against us they were slow and lacked penetration. I think Guardiola's tactics of possession at all costs helped them stay unbeaten compared to last year, but if the two sides played Heynckes' would win like they did vs Barcelona. It's a project with him and his Bayern side isn't complete, but right now Id rather play them this year than last.
