The old Man Utd Thread

Jon you don't get credit for being endlessly negative when something at the club actually does go wrong.

The damning thing for Moyes is the how he has done well, up to a point. Our record against the teams below us is good, our record against the teams above us has been completely shocking. Also damning is the lack of any improvement against the top sides as the season has worn on. Everton seemed to have this glass ceiling with him in charge, and now it is affecting us too.

I don't think the question is whether he will get sacked but when. We could still lose out on Europa league football, unless we win all our remaining games and Spurs drop at least 3 points. As bad as we've been this season, I think we're more likely to win those games with Moyes as manager rather than with some interim solution. We will be playing the sort of clubs we've done well against with him in charge. Long term we should be going for Klopp but others will be after him in the summer, Barca and possibly Arsenal. I'm not sure Van Gaal would be too smart, he will be preoccupied with the World Cup during the summer, and we can't have another shit transfer window. We should be getting a new manager in as early as possible, so they can get involved with bringing new players in.

Personally I'd rather have a season without europe if the rigmarole of the Europa League is what we have to look forward too. I imagine it would also be easier for a new manager to get us back into the top four if we don't have to play all of those extra games in Russia and wherever else on a Thursday evening. I mean, look at Liverpool!

From the BBC

Neil Custis, football correspondent with The Sun, has been speaking to BBC Radio 5 live about newspaper reports saying that David Moyes is set to be sacked by Manchester United:

"This is nailed down, I would expect it to be announced tomorrow, undoubtedly before Saturday. Yesterday's performance at Everton was the final straw. There has been a lack of faith in his ability since the 2-0 defeat to Olympiakos. They expected a down-turn of sorts no matter who took over from Sir Alex Ferguson, but to second or third, not to seventh."

Everyone bow down to football knowledge supremo, Poor Jon!

Actually, I think your negs were more for your knee jerk reactions and wanting Moyes' head as soon as he was announced while not even wanting to give him any sort of chance. Your constant negativity in this thread as well as your total unwillingness to recognise when things were actually going well also probably didn't help much.

Also, I imagine most of your negs probably came when you started crying every time you received one rather than anything else.

:hat:

Alright Mr Serious, I was only joking!

Ah, the famous 'social experiment' retort!

Anyway spork, new manager, new start eh? Let's be friends next season. It'll be more fun!

I don't know why you'd be down on Europa League - European football at any level is still a lot of fun, and as a Liverpool fan, even though our league form has undoubtedly benefited, I've missed it this season.

Besides which, from next year the winner gets a Champion's League place, offering another way back to the top table.

Aye, even if it's inferior to the Champions League, I'd still be saddened if we didn't have European football at all - having those late games is always something I've looked forward to, more matches means more United that we get to see. That's never a bad thing, even with our poor run this year.

The no-smoke-without-fire adage may well be true in this case (with regards to Moye), but it's not something I'm particularly hopeful for. I'm not sure what the right decision is, but if he has to be done (like most feel), then after the season is finished would be better for all involved.

I think if the owners are worrying about good players wanting to move on (thinking more Kagawa than Welbeck here) then best to pull the plug now if they are sure that's what they want to do. The season is ended anyway.

Done via Twitter. Classy. Deserved better.

The class started when the club briefed the media yesterday with the news.

Been amateur hour for over a year so the way it's been revealed is no surprise.

Bye! Glad he's gone.

The bigger issues that existed before Moyes remain but at least we may now get a manager who can inspire the players into being arsed.

Complete lack of class by someone at the club briefing the media yesterday. Acted shamefully.

Now the search for a successor begins, Van Gaal seems to be the obvious choice, but with WC committments we wouldn't get him til mid-July at the earliest. Klopp would be dream appointment for me.
