The old Man Utd Thread

Obertan was available for the wing as was Giggs but we played down the middle and tight a lot of the time with quick short passes, it's how the game was set out for them so Cleverley won't add much to our game at the moment, keeping him ticking over at Wigan would be best as his season didn't get going until late due to injury. Pretty annoyed about the way in which we conceded for obvious reasons.

A simple change would've done it, Obertan on for Gibson, throw Giggs out on the left and play a 4-4-2.

That was how I wanted us to play too. If Gibson isn't going to get into shooting positions there's no point him being in the team, and there was simply no need to play 4-5-1 against Birmingham of all teams. Yes, they've only lost 1 game at home in the league this season but they're not exactly free-scorers and it was obvious they were looking to stick 10 men behind the ball from really early on. It's pretty amazing how we can be top of the league with only 1 away win out of 8 so far (and if I remember correctly we conceded late on in that game and had to score a late winner)

Absolutely must be a win today, there really is no excuses for anything else. They're on a bad run and are short of three first choice defenders. They'll normally attack which should help too.

4-4-2 with Rooney and Berba is a must today, even if it means somebody like Fletcher is out of position on the wing. Please, please, please play Obertan if no Nani, anything but Gibson on the wing.

Sure he was knackered the other night but when it was 2 on 2 in the dying minutes and still 1-0 he completely fucked up the opportunity. He must have been on Baywatch with the speed of his run, was as shocking as the final ball.

Obertan is playing, Nani is not. I guess either Fletch or Anderson are playing on the wing, let's hope it's the former. SAF is saying there will be no signings in January, but I think a short loan deal would be ideal. Valencia and Park will be returning in time, and anyone we bring in on a permanent deal would then be a spare part, but if we can bring someone in for 2 months or so that would be ideal. I think we're thin in central midfield, but if we didn't sign anyone over the summer to fix that, we're hardly in a better position to do so now.

West Brom v Man Utd line-ups

West Brom: Carson, Reid, Scharner, Pablo, Cech, Mulumbu, Dorrans, Brunt, Morrison, Thomas, Odemwingie. Subs: Myhill, Tchoyi, Miller, Shorey, Zuiverloon, Fortune, Cox.

Man Utd: Kuszczak, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Obertan, Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson, Berbatov, Rooney. Subs: Amos, Owen, Hernandez, Fabio Da Silva, Evans, Gibson, Bebe.

Other than eek at right back happy enough. Where is everybody else or is it a sympathy vote for the 400th?

Would always obviously rather have Vds than PIG, but still it's not too bad. Famous last words I guess...

I think Neville has been brought in because, without Nani and Park, there isn't going to be a lot of quality in the delivery from wide areas, and he's the best crosser we have. Fletch is alright but he's in a different league. I expect he'll be playing very far forward, and whoever's in front (as I said, hopefully/probably Fletch) will spend a lot of time covering him.

Why would Neville want to take one for the team? 2-1 down with 11 men would be better than conceding a penalty and down to 10 men.

West Brom are really showing us up in terms of keeping possession. Our midfield looks jaded, probably because Carrick and Anderson have played so many games recently.

@exwhyzee; I don't think so. It's an unfair challenge as he does not get the ball, but unsettles the man. It's not a dangerous challenge, in any other area of the pitch it might not even be a yellow. It was a penalty though, I have absolutely no doubt about that.

I think Obertan's been alright for someone who's not played many games recently. He's certainly better than any other options we have.
