The old Man Utd Thread

Could be looking at a season extension at this rate. That's already two extra midweek games at a time when FA Cup replays and Champions League games are stacking up. At least Scholes will be back when the fixture is re-scheduled.

The Qatari Royal Family takeover stories seem to be gathering pace. Sunday Mirror broke it, they have a good reputation for breaking football stories. Interesting...

I wouldn't worry too much about it just yet. I still think it's unlikely that the Glazers are wanting to sell at this moment in time.

David Beckham's hopes of a dream return to Manchester United have been crushed by Sir Alex Ferguson, while Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger does not have room in his squad.

Beckham has said that he would only return to the Premier League with United, where he won six titles before moving to Real Madrid in 2003, and he has snubbed interest from Everton.

But United boss Ferguson has no interest in signing his former player because he thinks that at 35 years of age the midfielder is too old.

"I don't think so with David at his age," said Ferguson. "I have never signed a player at that age have I?"

I really can't see it happening but with Valencia out for at least another couple of months and Park unlikely to feature again until February who knows.

The one thing I always remember from Larsson was the awesome volleyed goal he scored (I think in a CL match) that was incorrectly called offside. Ball over his right shoulder and BAM.

I read somewhere that Valencia was potentially in line for a come back by the end of January

Classic United. We have a scare at the back, and as quick as anything it's in the net- at the other end. Excellent break, excellent run from Giggs and the delivery from Rooney for Berbatov was perfect.

I think Giggs and Park are going to want to come inside a lot, the fullbacks are going to be crucial in keeping Sunderland pinned back. *edit* Unless they raise their game, I don't think that's going to be very difficult anyway.

If Anderson hits that well, and first time, with his right it's in. Shows the ball to the defender with his first touch. We've been a little careless when we have a sight of the goal, to be honest. I don't think Sunderland are capable of making us regret that though.

Some good, some bad so far.

Had some good movement and passing, but have gotten pretty sloppy and allowing Birmingham to rush us in the last part of the half.

Really missing Nani and Park today, could do with a proper winger on the right to run at Ridgewell. Obertan on later perhaps?

And I thought we'd only be playing Rangers twice this season!

In all fairness Birmingham have actually played well, giving our attack and midfield no space whatsoever while still managing to fashion the a few chances. Part of the reason we looked so good at the weekend was because we got players close to each other, something we've been unable to so far this match. Plus Gibson and Carrick look like they've never played together before and if you can't get the former taking pot shots from around the box i'm not sure what use he is. Give it 10 mins in the second half and if there is no change in play something will have to be changed.

Or just with any width whatsoever. It was so glaringly obvious that was what we needed. A simple change would've done it, Obertan on for Gibson, throw Giggs out on the left and play a 4-4-2. So fucking frustrating, especially conceding in that manner. A handball and an offside. Superb.

Zigic committed two fouls before the equaliser- he was climbing and his forearm hit the ball. Plus Bowyer was offside. Argh, very annoying.

We packed the midfield against Birmingham, which is incredibly pointless. With Anderson and Carrick mopping up superbly, Gibson was dead weight. We needed some width, I feel Obertan should've been used at some point, if only to stretch the play. I'm still amazed we couldn't close it out, but I suppose you're always at risk when it's 1-0. A sketchy goal is the worst way to drop two points.

Top of the league with a game in hand though... I can't complain. Let's recall Cleverley, and hopefully our mini-crisis on the wings will subside.

*edit*

Hello non-United fans, coming in here and negging this post. Just don't come in here if what you read bothers you that much.
