The old Man Utd Thread

C'mon ckny, admit that Anderson had a good game yesterday. You know you want to ;)

He did ok. Can he produce the goods consistently, or against a team who won't give up after 3 minutes? I'm not convinced. I never know what's going on with him, Sir Alex obviously doesn't think too highly of him, opting to put literally everyone he can on before him (see: Hargreaves).

Anderson did better than fucking Carrick anyway. Far too willing to collect the ball and give it someone else. On the very rare occasion he did show some ambition his final ball was lacking. I was negged for criticising him yesterday, which I found funny because there's only about 10 of us who post in this thread so I KNOW WHO IT WAS. (Got it narrowed down to around 10 anyway.)

Didn't he have the flu for that game? Can't remember. I sort of hope that he'll always move on after each decent performance but it's not really happened yet. Who knows though, exciting times ahead!

Looking forward to Bebe fluking another goal on Tuesday night!

I can't actually see the Guardian chalkboard at work (blocked) but they did have this to say about Rafael -

....this weekend against Blackburn it was his tackling that impressed, with the Brazilian winning 13 of the 14 challenges he contested. This included all six aerial battles, despite Rafael being just 5ft 8ins tall, as Jason Roberts, El Hadji-Diouf and Brett Emerton all failed to get change out of the 20-year-old.

It seems to go against the grain slightly but I think he's been decent in defense this season and the stats above, while hardly conclusive, show that he's defending pretty damn well.

If Carrick was actually called upon to provide some creativity, I might agree with you. With everyone else on song though, he was entitled to just be a 'water carrier'. He mopped up and kept play moving, allowing Anderson and the fullbacks to run riot. Against a team that actually turned up, this wouldn't have been enough, but as it stands I don't think it was a bad performance. He wasn't really tested at any point; it'd be like saying VDS had a bad game because he didn't make any amazing saves.

My expected line-up for tonight;

Macheda Chicarito

Obertan Bebe

Gibson Anderson

Fabio Brown

Smalling Evans

Amos

Might be nice to see the likes of Morrision and the other Evans given a run out too, if things go well. I hope Bébé can show something other than 'he's big and he's got a good engine'. I'm sure the actual game itself won't be that interesting.

*edit*

Nope. No Macheda and no Gibson in a shockingly strong line-up. Brown in for O'Shea too, I guess he's been a bit poo of late so needs the game more. I understand Giggs needs minutes on the pitch, but why is Fletch paying? Maybe SAF has already decided he won't play against Blackpool, so he needs a game to not be rusty against Valencia.

O'Shea has been really poor so far.

He's had a pretty bad season so far really. Mind, Fabio hasnt been much better tonight.

I can see glimmers of something in Bebe but he is seriously seriously unpolished. Like, years away from the required standard.

He has serious pace by the looks of it, based on that alone he could be pretty effective if he improves the rest of his game. Looks quite strong as well.

I don't think we are out of this but it looks a good choice to rest a few players, there is definitely an injury out there with some of the tackles from West Ham. Hopefully Ando and Fletch start putting in some solid challenges and take the game by the scruff of the neck.

Ho hum. I guess we shouldn't have counted on the Hammers being crap. I said the defence should've been assured, but it looks like Evans has regressed, and Fabio is way behind Rafael (defensively, at least) due to his lack of first-team experience. O'Shea has continued his recent form. The midfield has been okay, but it's got no foundation. At least all we've lost is some dignity, we can get a bit of that back with a goal or two.
