The old Man Utd Thread

So, Cleverley's gone to Wigan. With Diouf at Blackburn and Welbeck at Sunderland, there's a lot of United youth swimming around in the Premier League. The latter two seem to be doing well already, getting games and making a big impact in them. I hope it's the right decision, as our midfield does seem a little thin and he would've got games.

Rangers fans get another chance to smash up Manchester though <_<

They like to get fookin' pished, no doubt.

Disappointed to see Cleverly go on loan but it was fairly clear from the first couple of games he wasn't getting near the first team and it's much better he gets experience elsewhere than just sits on the bench at United. I assume Anderson's recovery has forced it to some extent. As you say, that's a few players on loan in the PL now so makes MotD a little more interesting at least.

Has our 25-man squad been announced yet? Will be interesting to see if Hargreaves is picked although I suppose he takes up two spots if you include the treatment table :(.

He is still learning for sure as he seems to be offside 90% of the time but Diouf has shown some real class already. His best ability's seem to be finding space in the box and then tidy finishing. He reminds me of Andy Cole abit.

Early days but he looks one hell of a prospect.

90% of Diouf's goals so far seem to be headers and tap ins, a right poacher.

Disappointed that Cleverly went off on loan, even more curious the decision not to invest in a creative midfielder given Cleverly won't even be here to have his development hampered by an Ozil or VDV etc etc.

Interesting that VDV looks to be going to Spurs for only £8 million after an £18 million move to Bayern fell through, sounds like 'arry was there to pick up the scraps when we had shut up shop for the night. It would be hard to argue with the value.

I did read a quote from Madrid saying they never received any kind of offer from Munich for VDV, especially not 21 million Euros

Either way, still a decent buy at £8 million for my money. If he can be consistant at Spurs, he could be amazing in and around their already decent midfield.

Although Madrid probably would have said that after having to settle for 8. Although they really did need to sell given they probably didn't have the space in their squad, so 18 would have been a massive coup for them given the circumstances.

Wonder who will be on he Madrid chopping block next summer? Lets hope Ozil and Khedira full out with Jose.

Giggs-and-Scholes.gif

:D

The bit that comes after that too is great - Giggs' sublime lofted through-ball and Nani's terrible chip finish which went twice as high as the goal (from about 3 mins 3 secs in)

Nani could have (should have easily scored three or four last week. Still, hope he continues to find form. :)

Our lack of investment is really starting to worry me now. We should have definitely been in for a promising, young, attacking mid before the deadline as we need to keep the line going for the future.

The fact we haven't shows me that we really are strapped for cash, regardless of Fergie's stance.

We'll be lucky to scrapethrough this season, such are our lack of options, but it's a couple of seasons down the line which worry me the most, once Fergie, Giggs and Scholes have gone.

Of course any new manager will want to shape things their own way then, but I really don't want us to go down the Chelsea or City route.

It doesn't mean much though as he isn't taking anyones place, I'm pretty much resigned to him never playing for us again and even if he did I doubt he would be the same player.

Right, so thats that shit over with for a bit, back to the real football tomorrow.

*Rio has been keeping himself busy arguing with Robbie Savage on Twitter and it looks like he will make the squad tomorrow.

*Some never seen before footage of the final 3 minutes in the Camp Nou have come to light..

*Bebe made the CL squad afterall.

*Also, Nani has a new hat. That is all.

Valencia and Hernandez both played an International friendly (against each other) in Mexico so thats probably why they aren't on the bench. Dont Like Berbs upfront on his own but with Everton not playing a recognised striker we will probably need 5 in midfield. Cant see Giggs playing behind Berb as then Nani would be playing left and Fletcher right and we will really need Fletch in the middle.

Berbatov has started the season better than Rooney, indeed he's probably been our best player besides Scholes in these first few games. That said, even if he plays the game of his life, he'll need a great deal of support if we're to get anything against Everton. Like tonymg says though, you need a packed midfield against Everton anyway, so it's probably our best XI if Rooney is genuinely out of sorts.
