The old Man Utd Thread

My and my brother started watching 24, kinda got sucked in and forgot all about the game! Funny how the first time there's a game on that isn't at one in the morning, none of us watch it! Anyway, found the goals on youtube, we were full strength and a trashing is about what you'd expect. Park's goal was just lovely, you rarely see a goalkeeper look that hopeless. I'll try and find some actual highlights, as all I can really remark upon is some superb finishing, enabled by the other team's defensive errors.

Community Shield against Chelsea on Sunday, and if it's anything like last year, both sides will be taking it very seriously. I doubt it'll be much fun to watch, but it'll be a good indication of our strength at this stage of pre-season.

Ferguson confirmed strikers Danny Welbeck and Mame Biram Diouf will be going out on loan during the coming season, with Sunderland and Blackburn believed to be their respective destinations.

Glad that Cleverley will be staying and probably the right decision for the other two.

He hasn't had much of a chance, to be fair. I'm not particularly excited about him, but wherever he goes it'll be interesting to see how he does. You probably won't have to pay much of his wages, so no loss for you really if it doesn't work out.

Only a couple of weeks, thankfully.

If he can't improve on last season's form, he won't be playing much, fit or otherwise.

We need Carrick fit and and in form, I think he's vital to our hopes of winning trophies and we suffered with his dip in form last season. Hopefully he can come back stronger this season and show everybody what a good player he really is.

Hopefully this injury won't set him back too much :(

How good is Diouf ? anyone seen him play ?

It looks a good loan deal for us but Di Santo came on loan from Chelsea last year with a fair bit of hype and was useless.

He looks like a patented 'buy 'em cheap, sell 'em on at a higher rate with the United seal of approval' type of player. Dunno though, hes still young, but I really doubt he will be a hit at United.

Bought on the cheap on a whim, has a good eye for goal, quick and will attack without having to be put into a formation to be forced into doing so. I reckon he's going to the right club to ply his trade as his chances have been limited by Rooney in a 4-5-1 (which I don't want to see much of this season) and left to swill around in the reserves. You've got yourself a solid loan-deal there.

Would you rather see 4-4-2?

There are two formations that are king in football at the moment; 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1. Both could be described as 4-5-1, if you wanted to make them sound more negative than they are. I'd be particularly happy if we adopted 4-2-3-1 as I think it suits us most, but anything is better than 4-4-2, which is pretty much dead as a standard go-to formation. It's rigid and inflexible.

Still trying not to get too excited, but it actually looks like SAF might be after Buster Keaton!

Come on Fergie, do it for fatblob x2.

Anyway, Charity Shield, looking forward to seeing this, I'd like Chic, Cleverly and Smalling to get some time against Chelsea.

Football season woo!
