The old Man Utd Thread

It is true that Anderson has shone most when playing a deep role. Maybe we need to ignore they way he played before he came to us, and just go with what works now. The Brazilians won't be thrilled with us though. He needs more experience before he can play as a pure DM, but the potential is certainly there.

I meant why isn't he a preferred starter over Hernandez? As for converting him to central midfield, doesn't he play there for Ecuador?

I remember such talk when we signed him. Maybe it's worth a go, but I feel he is naturally an attacker.

Schweinsteiger would be amazing. Coming off a good showing at the World Cup, where his versatility and ability was bared for all to see, you've got to assume he'd be expensive though.

Aye, Schweinsteiger and a creative attacking midfielder would do us a lot of good. Not sure Bayern would sell him for less that £30 million though at this stage, if at all.

I reckon anything up to £35 million is fair game, he's 25, that's 5 or 6 good years out of him. Bayern will definitely not want to sell him, but as we well know, if a player wants to leave there's not much you can do to stop them. Whether he'll want to come to United or not is another matter though.

It's kind of a kick in the teeth that we bought Hargreaves from them for £17 Million, and now we're talking about his effective long term replacement coming here to replace a player that has only played 26 times in 3 years for us. :D

Anderson is wank in my opinion. Can't tackle, can't shoot, can't pass. All he does is run about a lot. Basically a worse version of Park. I was excited when we signed him because he was one of the best young attacking talents in the world, but since he has come here he has gone backward.

Anderson is a much better footballer than when he arrived all be it its not the finished article. Park is so criminally underrated too! He's one of the most intelligent footballers at United in my opinion, even if he does lack a little bit of end product on occasions.

Anyway, after the let down of England and the World Cup not really living up to the promise I'm eagerly waiting the start of the Premiership!

They had to change the shirt regardless though as there's a new sponsor.

Well, they had to change the sponsor, but if they had kept the old shirt design I guess they would get less sales.

But thanks for pointing that out.

This what? This is a load of bollocks more like. Anderson is a great holding mid and can only improve - a run without injury and he'll shine.

But no fewer than if they kept the same shirt design for two years with a different sponsor.

No he's not. He's not even a natural 'holding midfielder'. He's done absolutely nothing of note in a United shirt to warrant the worship he receives in this thread. When he does, I will gladly accept that I wrote him off too soon, as I did with Nani earlier this year. I find it hard to picture him still at United in 12 months time.

Just because he used to play further forward and isn't a 'natural' holding midfielder it doesn't mean he hasn't adapted to be a decent holding mid since he's been at United. Players adapt. Look at Evra- he used to be a striker. Where would he be if he'd stuck to his 'natural' role?

Good point; however Roy Keane wasn't a "natural holding midfielder" before his move to Man Utd.

He ended up as a quite decent "holding midfielder". :)

Anderson has spent 3 years with us, and is now at the age of 22. If he was ever going to make it at Man Utd and in the Premier league we would have seen it by now. Look at his role in the build up to the Eto'o goal in the CL final. Laughable. Not only is he shit, he is injury prone and a moany bastard.

To be fair, speaking for myself and BigShimmeryWall, our 'worship' is simply to do with his Serena Williams-esque buttocks.

Maybe so, but you said it yourself, hes 22.

Ronaldo was here for longer than that before he turned into a great player, Nani is only just showing form too. Whether you like him or not he probably deserves another season at least.

He's not a natural holding midfielder by any means but he's becoming a more rounder player. He's improving all the time in terms of ball retention, passing and positioning and I'm sure he'll continue to do. The worship he gets is for daft silly things like having a large arse and always playing with a smile on his face.

Its laughable that you're writing a player off at the age of 22 to be fair. Just look at Nani and how he came on leaps last season. Sometimes the penny just drops and I'm quietly confident that it'll happen with Anderson. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

If we had a stable and consistent midfield for the last three years i'd be far more critical of Anderson but has he really been that bad? It's only Fletcher who has provided consistently high levels of performance over the last couple of years so I think it's really harsh to right him off.

Anyway, first pre-season game on Friday and it's a young squad that have gone over so should make for some good entertainment.

Yes.. he is. It doesn't matter what he's listed as, that's what I see in him. I wrote Nani off too, frustrating to watch like Ronaldo was, but Fletch and Nani have both come on, Gibson hasn't improved noticeably in my eyes lately but the faith is there.. he's a decent player and can't see him leaving or being sold.

Like Nani? Never seen him moaning.
