The old Man Utd Thread

When he is not there we have berbs he has scored 12 this season and we should have support from diouf, kiko, welbeck, owen.

AlwaysBeClosing's point that I was replying to was stating that we would be ok without Berbatov and just had Kiko, Owen Diouf and Birdseye as a suitable backup to Rooney.

I'm well aware of Berbatov's record, in fact I've stood up for him a fair bit, but you can't deny that we've been seriously lacking up front when Rooney isn't there or isn't playing well.

Compare to

Chelsea - apart from Drogba , Anelka has scored 9

Liverpool - Torres and 9 for Kuyt

Arsenal - apart from inujury ridden Van Persie have asharvin 9 and betner 6

There are no teams with two strikers banging them in 20 a piece

oh and Rooney has played in 42 games this season - he is not even injury prone

All fair points, again my issue wasn't at all with Berbatov, I expained that earlier, more that I'm not putting all my faith in the previously mentioned fringe players and Owen to do the biz if Betbatov leaves with no replacement.

I cant wait for a fit Ando and Hargreaves that is going to make the single biggest difference next year. We were crushed in midfield in the latter stages of Europe and catn rely on scholes/carrick. A Central Midfielder who knows where the back of the net would be a nice addition.

No use anticipating Anderson coming back then :) I dunno, Im hoping Anderson can do a Nani but Ive lost a lot of faith in him after this season. Especially after the crappy way he played in his supposed natural position against City.

Anderson is a central midfielder. Those who know him from his time in Portugal can moan, but that's clearly where he's best. His defensive qualities are really great, we could've done with his energy this season. He just needs to pass more conservatively, as befits a deeper-lying position. After his amazing debut season, where he was chucked into the deep end and just looked first class, I doubt I could have more patience with him.

Owen is a natural striker (and probably couldn't play any other position anyway) and would be perfect as a replacement for Rooney in a 4-4-2, less so in 4-5-1 due to his stature. The other strikers would be up-and-coming anyway, I'm really looking forward to Chicharitazard giving it a go in pre-season though, hopefully in Asia so I can catch a game or two if possible.

he had 11assists until his injury the problem he has is that he has no steady partner and always in rotation

Manchester United is still the most valuable football club in the world, according to Forbes magazine.

The Premier League title holders, who came second in a list compiled by Deloitte in February, again topped the table ahead of Real Madrid.

Forbes values United at £1.19bn($1.84bn), Real at £859m ($1.32bn), and Arsenal, in third, at £767m ($1,181m).

It uses data on income streams such as broadcast rights, sponsorship and sales of tickets and merchandise.

Barcelona is fourth in the 20-team list which includes six clubs from the Premier League plus Newcastle United who have spent this season playing in the Championship.

Liverpool, Chelsea and AC Milan all made the top 10, but the trio's value had each fallen by 19% in the 2008/09 season according to the Forbes calculations.

Juventus and Olympic Marseille had the two biggest increases in value - each gaining 9% on the previous year.

Increasing sponsorship and media revenue meant "the news continues to be good for investors" said Michael Ozanian, national editor at Forbes.

However the average worth of the clubs in the list fell 8.5%.

While I agree in principle, do United have the same amount of goals from elsewhere as other teams? For example, Chelsea have Malouda and Lampard, Arsenal have Fabregas.

In the league I think it is OG - 11, DB - 12

Although I believe there was also one in in the Champions league, so thats OG - 1, DB - 0

So, 12 - 12 Overall, I can't remember either of them scoring in the past few weeks so unless i've missed one i don't think thats changed.

Keep in mind also that, Owen Goal has started twice as many matches as Berbatov and has not had any injuries. :)

Not sure, I think it's been this for at least a couple of weeks. (that was the last time I checked anyway). Playing ahead of Chelsea is a decent advantage to have again. I wonder if Ancelotti will ban the players from watching/looking at results.

Were you guys expecting Rooney not even to be on the bench?

I assumed he was fit as nothing has been mentioned about him. Slightly surprised to see Bale moved back to fullback after his last couple of performances.

Carrick doesn't start again, I really do think he might be sold in the summer. Hargreaves to score a last minute free kick to win the game.

Can't see anything else than a man u win today. Think you'll nick one then go onto win 3-1 or similar. Good luck, great end to the season!

I don't know why you can't see anything other than a United win. We struggle to get results when Rooney isn't playng and I can't see Spurs being a pushover.

Draw for me. Unless Hargreaves fires in a wondergoal for his return!

I just feel you've got that magic at the moment! And if spurs best you I will be a miracle. I thus see you getting a goal, most likely a dodgy pen :(
