The old Man Utd Thread

Similar sort of messy (but well worked) goal at the other end, and it's all square.

Was it an own goal? My stream went down, but it came up across the bottom of Liverpool's match as an OG.

Seeing as we played with 10 men for 60 minutes it shouldn't be considered a bad result. Villa weren't great though and we could have won it, there was a lak of pace on the bench for me, Diouf or someone with pace could have made the difference in the last 20 mins.

That's really a bit silly though isn't it. It was our own fault we played with 10 men.

Hmm. I don't think it was a sending off for Nani, but Villa probably deserve the point. I felt at the end of the game, no-one was going to score because there was so many cynical challenges cutting moves short. The referee was rash with Nani, then seemed to let everything slide after that to compensate.

Everton one up with ten minutes to go.

It was definitely a sending off, he jumped in with both feet off the ground. It's a red card offence whether there's contact or not.

:) no way, he never dived with BOTH feet. it was 1 leading foot and he won the ball, he cant leave the other on the floor. Yea he shouldnt have jumped but i thought it was a good tackle but this day and age loads of players will cry on the floor to get the man sent off. Im sure Petrov was fine a minute later. Ref's dont have a clue about tackling anyways, they always get decisions wrong, i mean Pienaar against Mascherano was ridiculous and he only got a yellow.

Alan hansen agrees!

It's all about the launch of the tackle - the way he jumped up with both feet raised for a 50/50 ball. Basically it looked to all the world like he was going two feet in for full leg breakage.

As it happened he kept one foot back and then studded the ball, but it looked awful and was really reckless because there was no guarantees the contact on the ball would be as clean as it turned out.

So if I was the ref, I'd have the adreneline shot of horror at witnessing the start of the tackle, and having it happen for no reason, and having it right in front of me. And I'd have a sense of releif when both players walked away.

IMO a tackle of that potential damage should be red-carded, successful or not.

Tbh, a draw away to Villa wouldnt have been a bad result even with 11 men for the whole game. Yes you might point back to United's recent form there but O'Neill has turned Villa into a defensive juggernaut recently.

Regards the Nani tackle. When Fergie comes out and says he has no complaints then you know it was worthy of a red. His punishment for the rash challenge will be missing out on the carling cup final so that may wise him up a bit.

Well, Fergie agrees with me... You still sticking with Hansen?

Anyway, not only is Nani out for 3 games but Giggs is out for 4 weeks now according to SkySports.

We've not had much luck with injury and supsensions this season, have we? I'm surprised we're only 1 point off first. Just shows how shit the rest of the top 4 have been.

When some supposed 'first teamers' have been fit, like Vidic or Neville, we've been at our most vunerable. I think injuries aren't so bad when it gets the likes of Evans and Rafael a run of games. Blessing in disguise. We miss a fit Ferdinand, who looked back to his best (or at least close) before he got himself banned, and of course I don't know what we'd do if Evra got sidelined. The midfield deserves a lot of the credit for keeping goals out too, we defend well as a unit regardless of who's playing. I'm not surprised we've let so few in, even with Carrick playing at the back.

Giggs out for four weeks, not that bad for a broken arm at his age I guess. Oh, and before I said the Nani tackle should maybe have been a yellow, in retrospect that was a load of crap. No malice in it, but what a silly tackle.
