The old Man Utd Thread

Corrupt league, blatantly. 3 OG's (though Carrick's might have been his goal- took a deflection, but then again so did Vermalens last week and he was credited) and for Berba's goal they literally stood and watched. Nice finish, mind.

I'll be honest, I know nothing about Pompey these days bar about three players. Listened to it on local radio, they reckon there was 5 or 6 changes from midweek. The likes of Finnan, Boateng and Dindane didn't start, which seemed strange. Wolves at OT style outcry incoming?

Think the manager may have got himself of a pickle really. Valencia has been great all season, but he was rested for Hull. In came Nani who played well, then followed it with decent stuff against City and Arse so he clearly can't be dropped. Which is all a bit harsh on Valencia, who alongside Evra and Rooney has been our most effective attacker.

Yesterday he tinkers with the team, Nani left and Valencia right. Which worked OK, Nani was involved in two of the goals and did good. Amazing what confidence can do, was sure we'd seen the last of him. But he's clearly more effective from the right. Valencia is so one footed he can't play left. Just makes me wonder what'll happen in the future with them two and the right.

What was also interesting from yesterday was how an impartial, national TV broadcaster failed to show any scarves or make any protest chants audible in their highlights. Listening to the game the songs were certainly loud and clear on that, a view reinforced speaking to some guys I know who always go to the game. Well, that and catching anything from Sky Sports who clearly showed both. From BBC's match report:

And on paper it seemed they could not get an easier opportunity, with crisis club Pompey having won only once in eight matches, as well as attracting unwanted headlines for their financial difficulties and allegations about their manager Avram Grant's behaviour.

United's off-the-field problems were of the more traditional kind - Rio Ferdinand was out suspended and fellow centre-back Nemanja Vidic was still not fit to return to action.

They've got Hull on tuesday I think, hence resting some players. Stranegely we've got no game next weekend so can go into the Villa game knowing everyone will have 6 days rest before the Milan game.

Ferguson has said that Valencia can play centrally so maybe he could play him in the role Fletcher currently occupies. Not full-time obviously but it would be an interesting combination. His one-footed-ness wouldn't be so much of a problem and he has the pace and strength to hassle opponents. A Nani - Valencia - Rafael right flank could be pretty tasty.
