I don't know, I think Carrick and Fletcher are pretty strong players. Its a shame about Hargreaves, I think hes a really usefull player to have, but lets face it, this news is hardly a shock and its not like we're losing a player, as we haven't really had him. I think if there was still a chance of Hargreaves being in the CL squad but loosing Fletcher for the rest of the season would be a much bigger blow as it stands at the moment.

If hes not playing by the summer, there is going to have to be some serious thought put into maybe looking at a replacement, but I think we'll manage without him a little longer.

Yes, Fletch and Carrick aren't great as a midfield partnership. Thankfully, the future, for us and everyone else seems to be a midfield three. Carrick is great in the middle of one of those, much better at starting off moves than Hargreaves ever could be, but not as good as breaking up play. The other two are box-to-box; Fletch is a god in this role, I suppose Anderson we have to hope will grow into it.

Hargreaves and Scholes both fantastic players, but I won't feel like we're threadbare if they both retire over the summer. We'll still have a great midfield.

losing him as well as scholes being on his way out really hits us hard.

We really are relying on fletch and carrick and thats hardly going to dominate the world

Both players have been an integral part of the team in the last 3 years where we've won pretty all that a football club can win. So I think you're being terribly unfair on both players.

Is Vidic actually injured, or is it one of those things where SAF is having a tiff with a player, and just gives another reason as to why they're not playing? I think Wes and Evans are doing fantastically well, but there is no-one who has the aerial ability of Vidic. He played three fantastic seasons for us, was one of the best defenders in the world, then his form dipped. He hasn't played for a while and there are all these rumours. Still, if he wants to go, we can probably get a lot for him as he's still highly rated, plus if we can get Rio back fit we don't really need him.

Forget the money, it's useless. It'd just be set aside for value reasons and never seen again. The club already has the replacement in Evans, with Smalling taking the Evans deputy role that Jonny currently has. Straight swap for Benzema please. I'd rather he not join Franco FC, but then again I can't really see a player we'd want from Barca that they'd let leave. Maybe Toure, but he's not needed like Benzema would be.

Milan? Fantastic club though it is, with huge heritage and style, it's surely be a massive step backwards to go there. They're not even the best club in Milan, so they surely can't be an option.

Glad it's Pompey at home tomorrow. Obviously there's a decent chance of a clear enough win to go top, but I can't see them making any hassle during the silence.

To be honest, I think there is zero chance of Benzema leaving Madrid. I think Perez would rather foot the bill of a failed player than admit defeat so soon on one of his marquee 30 Million+ signings. Same for Benzema, he publicly stated he didn't want to come to us and wanted Madrid, I'm not sure the guy would 180 so soon. It would definately be a dream scenario if it were to happen though, I hope my feeling is wrong.

I would prefer he go to Barca if there was no chance of a Benzema swap, but I suppose it depends how much they want to spend on Fabregas ;). Milan, yeah, bit of a step backwards in footballing terms, but then if you believe the gossip, he wants to leave as much for the reason of climate/more glamorous location for him and his wife as much as anything.

Seriously though, ;)

Everything you're saying is bang on though really. I was just hoping his recent omission from the France starting XI was down to a lack of starts at Madrid. Checking his stats, that isn't really the case, he's started 13/18 league games and was brought on the last 5.

Realistically such swaps don't occur either, do they?. Maybe Ettoo and Ibra is comparable, but after that I can only think of instances where the player was doing badly/ had fell out with the manager than the situation that Vidic is in. The whole Fantasy Football/ Champ Manager angle that this deal is their domain, and not ours too.

When we sell though, we should work on the basis that if Lescott went for £24 we want double. Yep City are stupid and money irrelevant to them, but we should take a similar stance to Ronaldo in that it's an exorbitant fee, upfront in full.

David Villa keeps getting linked to Madrid. They also want Ribery. If Villa goes, they would have Raul, Higuain, Benzema and Ronaldo who could play there. Higuain, Ronaldo and Raul ain't going to leave, so that leaves Benzema. Plus apparently his night life in Madrid isn't going down too well. I don't think it was the right move for his development to go to Madrid, but atleast now if he leaves, he has moved there and thus most likely won't return.

Barcelona have about 5 central defenders at the club, plus Caceres is on loan at Juventus. Milito is just coming back from a major injury. Puyol and Marquez are hardly getting younger. Chygrynskiy seems a waste for £22m and Barca fans whistled him, if Barca pay that for him then imagine how much Vidic could be worth. Caceres was error prone and didn't even play in the champions league final last season when Barca needed central defenders.

I was just thinking that actually, especially if Villa were to come in it would make it easier to try for Benzema. Higuain i'm not so sure of, hes a great player but hes never made it to untouchable status there, he might be a good secondary target.

It all depends on how many points Real loose to Barca at the end of the season, and how they panic buy/sell.
