I'm not surprised we've signed a centre back but this one seemed to come out of nowhere. There don't seem to be any centre backs in the reserves who look like they could step up and Cathcart has been pretty poor at Watford. There is always a risk that Vidic might leave and I very much doubt Ferdinand will play over 30 games a season again.

The Sun (lol!) had a report that Anderson didn't turn up for training yesterday after another spat with Ferguson. It's only in the Sun so no idea how accurate it is! He's probably just injured and was getting treatment for that. I suppose we'll see tomorrow night.

Vidic left about 9 months ago. Really struggle to remember a commanding performance from him for ages, be it injury or his head not at the club he's been off for ages. HOPEFULLY it'll be a swap for Benzema done soon, if not in the Summer post the World Cup... you just know it'll be £25M cash that'll disappear in the Summer though due to a lack of value. There was talk of Chiellini, but I can't see us getting involved in the bidding war for him unless he specifically comes out and states he wants Utd and Utd only.

No surprise and he deserves the ban he'll receive.

He'll play tomorrow, but should he appeal I think he'll be able to play against Arsenal. Appeal on what grounds I don't know, maybe the "shit, we don't want Neville anywhere near the team" defence. It'd probably be worth the extra games ban he'd get to avoid such a scenario, with Rafael inspiring little confidence either.

He deserves the ban, but what I don't understand is how it's any different to this that went unpunished:

I was just coming on to post the Mascherano thing, seemed strange at the time that nothing came of that.

Apparently Smalling will stay with Fulham for the rest of the season and join up with United in the summer. Lets hope he isn't the only Vidic replacement we will be getting if (when) he makes like a tree.

You think he'll be sold/loaned or do you think he'll be in the background for a bit then come through when hes been trained the English game more?

Tosic joins Cologne on loan.

Definitely for the best, hopefully he will come back having improved, although I thought he might have gone somewhere in the Premiership/Championship.

The main problem is that I can't see us keeping a clean sheet, thats not to say we won't out score them but they will play with 9 behind the ball for most of the game and if we struggle like we have done at times this season then we could easily lose the tie.

Plus I can just picture the 4-3-3 we will inevitably play and perfom badly with :) If it's a Giggs/Rooney/Valencia front 3 I will do my fucking nut.

Agreed. Start with Berba/Rooney up top and fucking rip into them from the first whistle.

I would have thought Berbatov will start tonight, and Valencia will surely be back, although given Nani's performance the other day he will be looking for another crack at the whip (maybe him on the left? Although Giggs will probably play, most likely a bench role for Nani.

I dunno, it could go either way, our form is so unpredictable of late and City will be up for it so who knows how shit will go down.

SSN says Rio is contesting the charge, so will be free tonight. Although of course that will be a bigger ban if/when the appeal is turned down. :)

EDIT: They also say Smalling cost "in excess of £10 million" :ph34r: I guess he is the Vidic replacement...

I've read reports ranging from £4m up to £11m so my guess would be the fee is based on appearances and such like.

I dunno, it only said it meant he would be free for tonight, it may drag on past the weekend but I assume they will want it sorted out before then.

Bellamy was about to take a corner when fans threw coins and bottles at him striking his head. VDS remonstrated with the fans. scumbags, absolute scumbags. Like that idiot that threw a lighter at Evra last week.
